After visiting the Miami Dolphins, free agent safety Ryan Clark has re-signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers according to a league source.

Clark met with the Dolphins' brass Sunday and today, but we've been told he has agreed to terms with Pittsburgh.

According to a source, Clark's deal has a total value in the neighborhood of $17 million with at least $5 million of that figure to be paid during the first year of a four-year contract.

Clark is one of the most destructive hitters in the league.

His shot on Baltimore Ravens running back Willis McGahee in the AFC championship game two years ago caused McGahee to be carted off the field and hospitalized overnight.

Ultimately, his return to Pittsburgh is what he wanted most of all.

Uncertain about the future of Limas Sweed and looking to add depth to the position, the Steelers will entertain their first free agent Monday when San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Arnaz Battle will visit the team's South Side facility.

Battle, 30, has spent seven seasons with the 49ers after being a sixth-round draft pick out of Notre Dame in 2003. He has 178 catches, 2,150 yards and 11 touchdowns in his NFL career. His best season was in 2006 when he had 56 catches, 686 yards and 3 touchdowns.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. -- In this historic college town, the locals are dubbing the Thursday visit of star Steelers' quarterback Ben Roethlisberger as the night "The Devil Went Down to Georgia."

Wearing a black T-shirt reading "Devil" and surrounded by an entourage of up to 10 beefy male friends at times, Roethlisberger stormed the city of about 20,000 south of Atlanta with a bar-hopping spree that began at The Velvet Elvis about 10 p.m. and ended in the VIP room of Capital City when he closed down the popular bar.

Ryan Clark will become an unrestricted free agent on Friday after he and the Steelers failed to come to a contract agreement.

Clark, the team's starting free safety the past four years, said consistently that he wanted to remain with the Steelers but the two sides never came close in contract negotiations.

He was one of three players football operations director Kevin Colbert identified as a priority to sign before free agency. They locked up the other two by signing nose tackle Casey Hampton to a three-year contract and making kicker Jeff Reed the franchise player.
