View Full Version : How Will Big Snack React After Big Whack?

We all know the storyline on this one. Big Snack is in Tomlin's doghouse. Yes I read Smizik's article this morning about Tomlin going too far.

My concern is this. How will this effect Big Snack's play this year?

He's not a happy camper being made a specticle of, isolated from the rest of the team. I know he's done this to himself but is Tomlin going too far? Will this have a negative impact on his play? Physically he gets back into shape but I'm talking mentally. Will he be at a point where he plays pissed off and totally dominates? Or will he have that, you humiliated me attitude and I don't give a shit ?

I'm woried that he may have the later attitude.

Come on now. You're isolated like he has been, he's got to be developing some negative feelings about his treatment.Has he once stated that he was wrong showing up this way?

He's got to be thinking: Cowher never treated me like this. This is how I always come to camp. I don't need to run all these sprints, I'm a nose tackle.

I think like all professional athletes he has an enormous ego. You have to know this is going to effect his play. The question is positively or negatively?

No, I don't think it will effect him at all, if anything he'll want to prove to everyone that he can come into camp not in great shape and still play at a high level.

If Cower was harder on his fav Vets they would of done better in 06.

ESP if he was harder on Simmons, Porter, Haggans &entire ST's Faneca in 06

Yep, he should've kicked their asses that way Ben's accident wouldn't have had such an effect on the team.

I agree Spike this board hates more players and coaches on there so called favorite team than many others opposing teams boards.

Big Snack doesn't want to practice. Big Snack doesn't want to play preseason games. Big Snack simply wants to get paid and play when the season starts. Methinks Big Snack doesn't mind.

I think it will only help his play. His play has been slipping the last couple years from the level it was once at so I think he would have continued that trend had Tomlin not stepped in.

Give Hoke a shot if Hampton wants to be a whiny bitch. He did good in 04 when he had to play.

we didn't allow a 100 yard rusher since the 2005 Indy game I think, when they went alot of 3 wide on us, up until the Jets game, in which they spread us out to where Hampton didn't play much as Hoke was in on passing downs and they ran over us.

If we are one of the top teams in the NFL vs the run and haven't given up a 100 yard rusher in almost two years, that's a pretty good sign he's doing his job.

One way to find out if Casey's got balls or is a big pussy. C'mon. Casey has never, ever come into camp this far out of shape. He looks like he sat down to the table and never got up. He's not just carrying an extra 50 lbs, he's carrying an extra 50 pounds of puffy extra fat, which means he let himself totally go this off-season and part of his 'playing weight' has converted to fat while his muscle, except for his mouth, pretty much lay dormant. We know that Tomlin is more laid back than Cowher. Guess maybe Casey wanted to see how far he could push him, and now he knows.

Coryea

While he may not be able to complete the run test, he's not just a fat slob, he's probably the strongest player in the NFL, if Larry Allen is out of the league.

i think it can only be a positive thing. he is working on a ton of cardio. loosing weight and his body osnt absorbing any hits/bruises/etc. It can only make him better for the latter part of the season. I bet casey and tomlin are getting a good laugh out of the media trying to make something out of nothing.

I agree, but the fat fuck gets paid a shitload of cash to play a game. Have the self pride to prepare to be the best. If your employer wants you to prepare a certain way, that's what you do. I wish I had the skills to get paid to play football instead of managing construction sites. I would like to think I could take it seriously.

maybe at his size he did prepare the best he could, he's struggled every year with the run test, not just this past year, so it's obvious even when he's in shape he's going to struggle.

I have no problem with the way Tomlin is dealing with Hampton. He's the Head Coach and he'll deal with his team the way he sees fit regardless of how the fans or newspaper columnists have to bitch and moan about it.

Hampton should have respected his teammates and coaches and himself enough to show up in reasonable shape. You pay me his kind of money and I'd show up in shape and with a better attitude that Casey's who cares attitude.

There are many different approaches to managing people. Chuck Noll was hard-nosed and methodical. Cowher was a players coach who didn't obtain the same level of success as Noll. What becomes of Tomlin's tenure remains to be seen, but in his second full season, he needs to establish further his principles.

As was stated, Casey was ill prepared, and found himself in a less than admirable position with mgmt. He is a highly paid professional who should be setting examples for the rooks, and he didn't.

I'll take a "wait and see" on this one, but IMO you want your vets setting the bar, Casey didn't and Tomlin wants it straightened out. Casey will be fine. If he doesn't get control of himself, he won't be able to play at the highest level, here or anywhere.

This is why we have leaders on the team. If he does play like that then I don't want him on the team. It is his fault and Tomlin should stick to his rules otherwise everybody will just do what they want. The media made it a big story not Tomlin.

Casey made a spectacle of himself by coming into camp grossly overweight. His play was awful at the end of last year and he was manhandled one on one by Meester in the Jags playoff game.

Casey's greatest strength has been his quickness in tight quarters and his excessive weight last year seriously hurt him in this area. Joel Steed, a much better player than Hampton went from all world to mediocre overnight without gaining weight. NT is the most physically demanding position in football and to play it full time at a high level in your 30s is rare and to do it way out of shape is a huge liability.

I hope Casey gets into shape because we are light in the load without him, Hoke is OK and brings more quickness to the position but he does not demand the double teams Casey has and that allows the opponents to attack our LBs without fear.

If he doesn't want to be singled out he should come to camp in better shape. Casey is a Hell of a player, but he isn't geting any younger and at his size it wouldn't take much for him to go to shit. I think it's great, and Hampton will be fine.

Tom i see where you are coming from with the Hampton will get it done during the season thing but you have got to top making excuses for him coming to camp the way he did this year.

Maybe at his size he did prepare the best he could.

Give me a break, have you saw him this year? I have no doubt that he can and will get in football shape over the next few weeks. I think all along he was just waiting for the season to get going and then he will get himself going.

However make no mistake about it Hampton has come in at the worst shape of his football playing life. He is not just a big NT he is Fat and out of shape.

Again I will say he will be ready when it gets going. I also think he will not be pissed and play well because he knows what kind of shape he is in and I'll bet he doesn't blame the coach at all.

Bottom line Hampton knew what he looked like and how he felt all along, he was just putting off getting ready to play until he had to. Now he has to get ready and he will.

So, what you are stating is, on weekends and vacations, instead of taking time off, you do things to prepare to be the best damn construction manager you can be.

That is what YOUR employer would want you to do.

And, there are construction managers that get paid a shitload of cash.....just like there are football players making nada.

It's the first fucking week. He told the coaches he was in shape and then came in 50 pounds overweight. Fuck him, he can run sprints and ride the bike for a week or two of camp, learn his lesson and take his lumps, and all will be right with the world. I love Casey, but come on... he fucked up. If he didn't know he fucked up, he'll know it by the time he runs 25-30 pounds off.

Well, Jim Wexell reported he tipped the scales at 360. It was rumored with Cowher that he came in at better than 350. The problem is, they have did the wink and smile shit for years with Casey and his weight. I really do not think he is grossly bigger this year than he was last year....Tomlin is just putting a stop to it. I am fine with that....but, as fans, we do not have to react like Casey has done something OUT of character. He has shown this pattern before.

Let him learn from his mistake, do not throw peanuts at him during the game, place yourself between him and your hotdog, and let it fucking go.

Like TMC says let it go. We all know WTF is goin on, so now lets let the Coach, Hampton and the team deal with it. If anything talkin about it and stating the same opinionated bullshit just makes the whole deal worse. Hampton is a Pro and he will get in shape and kick ass on D this year like he has done in the past. Just think what our rival fans think when they read all this bullshit.

Yeah talking about anything on an internet board makes things worse. Here's a clue, it doesn't mean shit in the real world, the entire purpose of the board is to discuss Steeler football, the good and the bad.

By the way, a true Pro wouldn't come into camp grossly overweight and need to sweat off the excessive girth..

I know exactly what a the concept of a message board is...it is so guys like you can have a place, outside of the real world, to say the same shit over and over until you think someone is listenin, can act tough and try to be cool. Hampton will be just fine come opening day. I still think Tomlin made a great move to put Hampton on the PUP list. If Hampton has any type of ego this will only motivate him more to begin abusing the OL again in 2008.
