Gleaned from John Dudley's sports column in todays Erie Times-News.
Last season: Appalachian State. This year: Utah. One of these years Michigan will get smart and put a real cupcake on their schedule for season opener. Like Notre Dame.
The New Englad Patriots cut veteran safety John Lynch on sunday, but Coach Bill Belichick left open the possibility that Lynch could return as a video specialist at some point.
The Dolphins have signed Ricky Williams to a one year extension worth $730,000. The deal could be worth much more if Williams reaches easily attainable incentives such as remembering to wear a loin cloth when he gets high and runs across Miami's South Beach in the middle of the afternoon.
Nice opener for Pitt, which will lean on the "Mac teams are better than people think" excuse for losing to Bowling Green and it's fancy spread offense. Bottom line: If the Panthers can't get it done at home against an opponent from a smaller conference after stunning West virginia, they're basically still a Class 5A WPIAL team.
finally.....
John McCain's vice presidential choice, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, is a former sports broadcaster and member of the NRA. The real question, of course, is: Can she do something worthwhile as VP, like fix the BCS?
