View Full Version : what did you see in preseason games?

I saw...

1- Rashard Mendenhall is great in the open field or if he thinks he's going to get there. He turns his back if he's running between the tackles and he thinks he's going to get popped. Check it out on the video replays.

2- The O-line is blocking better as a unit than last year's version. You can actually see them slide left and right as an entire line and the handoff's of defensive rushers to the next blocker are much better. Simmons continues to have the most dirt on his jersey - backside! Simmons -worse than Mahan, seems that Hartwig is able to help him more so there's a double improvement in performance. Patriots and Colts have been sucessful with no name olines and pricey QB's so we seem to copying that.

3- Defense, back to that - you can't run on us, wait till 3rd and long. sub pass defense and we can't stop the long conversion by pass or run. Tough to watch, series after series, 3rd and long and the other team converts.

4- Jeff Reed doesn't care who his holder is, just get the dang ball down and let me kick it thru. The kickoff's by the punters seemed much more effective in opponents starting field position, 25 and below. If Reed KO's, 25 and above.

5- Limas Sweed - seems like a great value. Anybody else old enough to remember all the drops that Jerry Rice had as a rookie? Not that he'll be that good but the drops will go away. He looks like a mix of Swann and Stallworth on the field and he gets open.

6- Hines Ward is playing smarter. He started a couple of years ago, he doesn't take every possible hard shot. He drops more now too, when is his contract up?

7- Security patdowns are rather complete now.

8- Got to love the 2008 Media Guide. It's way better than the Browns version, especially all the stats about the Super Bowl Steelers performances.

9- Willie Parker looks fine and still fast. Steelers really have 4 guys that could serve as starting RB's. The preseason, Carrie Davis - no way a fan can see how he's better for the Steelers running game than Billy Latsko, a Kreider like blocking performance from him all preseason long.

10- LaMarr Woodley, not what I expected in preseason, hope it changes in regular season. Love that the defense kept Roye as a 7th lineman, cheap and performed better than Mcbean. Much more useful as a one year solution. Hope the draft next year brings Steelers some oline and dline meat and bones.

Mahan during the Bills game was the worst OL I have ever seen play.

I saw that it was preseason, that's it, period. There are 3 things to remember about preseason:

1.) It's Preseason!
2.) It's Preseason!
3.) It's Preseason!

or he could end up looking like Derek Hill.

I think the OL problems will be solved by a combination of time in the system and playcalling. We saw Ben and Holmes us the hot routes and we saw Ben throw a quick route more than one time. Plus I expect our amount of carries to go up as Mendenhall looked very capable, other than the fumbles.

Our recieving core is not as strong as we thought it was. Hines and Holmes are great, Washington isn't reliable, and Sweed dropped some balls. Hopefully Sweed can start to hang on to them with experience. Could just be a rookie problem.

Our depth on the DL looked better. Mostly because they played the backup OL. Watching our backup DL against the opponants starters will still be awful.

Timmons and Woodley should really add to our pash rush, which could make Ike Taylor look like a Probowl corner again.

I'm expecting Ben's best season yet. And I'm expecting about 11 wins and a division title. Superbowl would be a nice touch aswell.

Mahan during the Bills game was the worst OL I have ever seen play.

And every Steelers fan can rejoice

MAHAN WAS TRADED! SOMEONE ACTUALLY WANTED MAHAN ON THEIR TEAM!

I can't believe we got a pick for him hahahaha

I saw Timmons actually start to look like a football player....filling the gaps and HITTING people in run support.

Keep it up and he might be off my shit list.

I saw a team that came out relatively healthy. I think we'll be ready to go on Sunday.

I only go by what I see.

As opposed to the groupies who ride every back-up like a pony every year.

Well it's kind of tough to not see what Timmons has done in the preseason. Let's just hope that carries over into the regular season. Sounds like Timmons and Foote will both be seeing some time on Sunday.

Or Willie Parker....

He's the only Steeler RB besides Franco & Jerome to have three straight 1000 yd seasons

He came out of nowhere, too.

I saw a D that looks great again. IF THEY STAY HEALTHY UP FRONT.

I saw an O line that is still shit, and nothing but shit. Simmons who I've supported for a long time is now on my shit list. I'm sorry guys but I think he is 25 percent of the problem maybe 30 percent.
The line can get better but I don't see it that way as of now

I see Timmons maybe being the next great one of a long line of great STEELER LB. I think this kid can be a D MVP type player.

I also see Sweed moving well and can develope however at this time he can't catch shit and is number 4 or 5 on my depth chart.

Parker is back but a little slower to me. Not enough to stop him from being great and fast enough but just a tad bit slower he looks to me.

I see Shard being the next great back for the steelers for the next 10 years

I see Woodley reading too much of what is printed on paper and not enough of making it happen. Its preseason for sure and woodely played like it was. lets hope he turns it up 10 times or so for the real deal.

overall I see Superbowl 43 in our hands.

To be honest, and I can only speak for myself, but I never hear you say something one way or another. The only think you say is "I told you so" after the fact...about damn near everything. :D

According to Tomlin Timmons will see time in the base as well. I expect it to be like this for the next few weeks.
