I saw...
- Rashard Mendenhall is great in the open field or if he thinks he's going to get there. He turns his back if he's running between the tackles and he thinks he's going to get popped. Check it out on the video replays.
- The O-line is blocking better as a unit than last year's version. You can actually see them slide left and right as an entire line and the handoff's of defensive rushers to the next blocker are much better. Simmons continues to have the most dirt on his jersey - backside! Simmons -worse than Mahan, seems that Hartwig is able to help him more so there's a double improvement in performance. Patriots and Colts have been sucessful with no name olines and pricey QB's so we seem to copying that.
- Defense, back to that - you can't run on us, wait till 3rd and long. sub pass defense and we can't stop the long conversion by pass or run. Tough to watch, series after series, 3rd and long and the other team converts.
- Jeff Reed doesn't care who his holder is, just get the dang ball down and let me kick it thru. The kickoff's by the punters seemed much more effective in opponents starting field position, 25 and below. If Reed KO's, 25 and above.
- Limas Sweed - seems like a great value. Anybody else old enough to remember all the drops that Jerry Rice had as a rookie? Not that he'll be that good but the drops will go away. He looks like a mix of Swann and Stallworth on the field and he gets open.
- Hines Ward is playing smarter. He started a couple of years ago, he doesn't take every possible hard shot. He drops more now too, when is his contract up?
- Security patdowns are rather complete now.
- Got to love the 2008 Media Guide. It's way better than the Browns version, especially all the stats about the Super Bowl Steelers performances.
- Willie Parker looks fine and still fast. Steelers really have 4 guys that could serve as starting RB's. The preseason, Carrie Davis - no way a fan can see how he's better for the Steelers running game than Billy Latsko, a Kreider like blocking performance from him all preseason long.
- LaMarr Woodley, not what I expected in preseason, hope it changes in regular season. Love that the defense kept Roye as a 7th lineman, cheap and performed better than Mcbean. Much more useful as a one year solution. Hope the draft next year brings Steelers some oline and dline meat and bones.
