INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Indianapolis Colts starting defensive tackle Ed Johnson was arrested early Wednesday on a drug possession charge.

Colts president Bill Polian said the team was still gathering facts about the case before determining how it will discipline Johnson, but Johnson will not play Sunday at Minnesota.

"He will not play this week, for sure," coach Tony Dungy said.

Polian said Johnson was stopped for speeding between midnight and 1 a.m. on Interstate 465 just north of Indianapolis. Police also charged him with marijuana possession.

Week 1 in the NFL this year sure has been one strange adventure.

Another blow to the Colts defense that already can't stop the run.

Peterson could have a huge day on sunday. I'd love to see the Colts start 0-2, both against the NFC.

Wow .. on a serious note : what is going on ... between injuries and the arrests .. the NFL is loosing a lot of players

On the other side of that : maybe he will feel more comfortable playing for the Bengals .. at least he will have come company in Jail ..

8 in the box. Peterson is going to see it all year until Jackson can prove he can throw

8, 9, 10, 11 in the box does not seem to bother A.P.
Just more guys to run over or around.
and I passed on A.P. in my fantasy draft to select Jesus Brady.

Or maybe, just maybe the NFC is stronger than the AFC? (despite the belief of many here) :D

Smooth Criminal

The NFC might be better. They have about 7 teams that are all pretty good and I think could compete with the top teams in the AFC. Dallas, Philly, NYG, New Orleans, Minnesota, Green Bay, and Chicago are all capable of playing with any of the top teams in the AFC because of the weakend Pats, Colts, Chargers, and Jags

The hole that the Steelers need to hit in order to make the playoffs this year is opening up a little more every time a new blurb comes out of the Associated Press...

Goodell can't be happy about this. Losing Lord Brady for the year after the first weekend and already having to deal with another off the field issue with a Colt no less.

Colts made the issue easy, they cut his ass.

Nice move. I wish more teams would cut players for arrests.

And that's that.....

INDIANAPOLIS -- Less than 24 hours after Indianapolis Colts starting defensive tackle Ed Johnson was arrested on a drug possession charge early Wednesday, the team said it would waive him.

In Cincinnati, his contract would have been extended. Just one of the reasons why I'm a Dungy fan.

The Steelers cut Bam Morris as soon as he was arrested with a trunk full quite a few years ago.

The 6-foot-2, 296-pound Johnson was the biggest surprise in training camp last year. He took advantage of an injury-depleted defensive line to start all 16 games, finishing with 63 tackles, one sack and one forced fumble.

We gotta get this guy!

It's just pot - Marvel was busted before too, ya know....

Marvel Smith, Pittsburgh Steelers.
Smith was arrested and charged with marijuana possession in 2002. He also tested positive for marijuana while at Arizona State.

Good to see Indy make the cut with Johnson. Now just don't be like the Bungles and try to resign him a few weeks later.

Steelers usually avoid anyone that has been busted with pot. I'm suprised Marvel has.

But Johnson has had other things in his background then this. You don't get cut just for pot.

Why is it that these guys who can potentially make millions of dollars cannot do without weed?

Hell I gave it up in the 80's to join the Army and make $400 a month.

'cos they're dumbasses, and were born dumbasses, that's why.

They need to get there car home.

I do not understand that either. Up here in the Seattle/Tacoma area we have a program where if you are drunk and need a ride but don't want to leave your car you can call various towing services, they'll come pick up you and your car and take you both home.

I should start a business that does that exclusively for Pro-players.
