View Full Version : Where were the 7,000 no-shows?

Only about 58,700 showed up to the game yesterday. WTF were the rest of the fans? I never thought I'd see the day when snow would keep Steeler fans from going to a playoff caliber game. Very disappointing.

Yeah, it was kinda.Seems like the elder generation probably decided to stay home. Or some of the younger ticketholders are wimps.

I didn't find that as ridiculous as the ones leaving when the score was 22-7. Pathetic.

me and the daughter stayed to the end as always. i remember a few years back in the playoffs, the jets were poised to kick the winning fieldgoal. everybody around me left. i moved down closer. the jets missed. we drove up the field to win the game by a fieldgoal.
might be time to cancel all season tickets and start anew. took the guys pulse sitting next to me, i think he was dead. he did get up in the 3rd quarter to leave, so i suppose he's alive.

That's what you get when you have a older season ticket fan base. They are very fair weathered.

Same thing happens with the Penguins, they are sold out all year. But there are nights where only 16000 show up and the other 1000 stay home. Luckly the Pens fanbase is the youngest in town and is growing faster than hell.

Well, I was in attendance, but I think a lot of the problem was the folks who were coming from far away. As predicted it got really bad out after the game, and the people coming from NY, CT, and places like that weren't able to come cause of the predicted 6-12 inches of snow.

Also, I think its horrible how people leave so early and give up. You aren't a true fan if you're skipping out in the 3rd Q when we're down 15.

Packer fans put us to shame so bad that it's not even a dispute. Do you think Lambeau would have that many no-shows? I had two relatives attend their first ever game yesterday. It was nice trying to explain those empty seats to them. It was also nice trying to explain the 45,000 empty seats halfway into the 3rd quarter.

The suggestion that Steeler fans are the best and most die-hard in the NFL is the biggest fraud around. I've been saying this shit for years. Get some bad weather or a losing season and you can almost give your tickets away.

Horseshit! Maybe the spoiled people who have had season tickets for 50 fucking years. If I had season tickets and lived in town? You wouldn't be able to pry my ass out of my seat with a fucking crowbar.

Unfortunately you don't have tickets. Cleveland had a damn blizzard yesterday and they had a capacity crowd.

I'm currently on my 8th year of an 11 year waiting list.....well it was 11 years when I first signed up.

People leaving in the third quarter.............they should be made to give up season tickets if they hold them.....shameful. That happened the year we played the Browns in the playoffs. Came back and won that one. I was there and was saddened by the exodus of Steeler fans.:(

Agree 100%. Those of us who only get to go to a road game......particularly one far away from Pittsburgh..(see: St. Louis in three days)...get a great barometer of what non-spoiled Steeler fans are like.

I agree with what most of you are saying. This is also the answer as to why MGM does not add another 20 thousand seats in the open end of the field. We would lose our great fan rep if we put that many seats in. Fact is that to many guys have life time rights to the seats. The Rooneys need to jerk some seats away for people that sale theirs every year and people that leave early are a fucking joke.

Grow up you two. Those older fans were once young Steeler fans who've bought tickets all these years, keeping the Steelers here.

I always stayed until the Steelers left the field after the game as did many of fans my age. Some day you'll be the old fans and I'd sure like to hear how you'll respond to those terrible remarks by those younger fans like you once were. I resent it as you will sooner than you think.

They would never be saying that about me because. 1. I'd never leave 2. I'll still be raising hell when I'm older. It was nothing personal CAH. I really do feel some people don't appreciate the privilege of having season tickets and they should give them to people who do.

The day I get up and leave in the 3rd QTR of a football game, I deserve to get ridiculed.

If someone doesn't have the guts or the interest to stick it out, give up the seats to someone who will be there though hell fire if necessary.

I agree but why do they assume that all the fans leaving were "OLD"?

I was in my 60s and watched a lot of young people leave early during a freezing game while we stayed through the end. Maybe the people leaving were the young fans who didn't know how to dress properly.

No need to pry them away just hand them to someone in the parking lot as you are leaving after halftime.

Interesting...I flew in for the cincy game a couple weeks ago, paid a bundle for 2 seats, stood out in the rain, and five minutes after the game started I had some old bitch behind me telling me to sit down. When I refused, she started threating to get me thrown out of the place. I still continued on and she was gone after the half, WTF? This is year 15 on the waiting list for me, they need some new blood in the stands.

I've only been to two home games and we lost both of them. It was the last year at Three Rivers when we played Jax and Tenn. My husband (at the time) wanted to leave because we were losing. I didn't care. I literally told him to go. Here's the keys. Feel free to wait in the car. Too bad you don't know your way home, dumbass. (We were at the very end of our marriage at the time, lol)

The rest of the games I've seen have been in Cincy. I have to agree with you, the Steeler fans never leave early at the away games.

When I get to the game... I'm usually high up in the bleacher seats in the endzone. I refuse to leave the stadium before the game ends because I'll be damned if I'm going to drive 300+ miles to the game only to bail in the middle of it.

I will leave my seat late in the game, though. We tried to sneak down to the lower levels at the Browns game this year, but ended up in the open area in the south endzone. And it was worth it... being able to move freely as opposed to being stuck in the bleachers was great when the Steelers came back to win the game.

One thing I noticed right away was all the empty Club Level seats. I don't think there was a single person in any of the sections around the stadium. They were all huddled in their suites sipping mamosa's or something. As Jed Clampett would say, "Pitiful, just Pitiful!

At halftime they were literally 99% empty and did not again resemble a "crowd" for the rest of the game.

The following are all facts:

Steeler tickets are given to those who are fortunate enought to have access to them, not the most die-hard Steeler fans.

Steeler tickets are a status symbol in Pittsburgh. My ex sister-in-law would go to every home game but wouldn't even bother to watch away games on television including playoff games.

The majority of fans that attend Steeler home games are generally older and more casual.

Agree with the majority here. I've been to 6 games. 2 in the Burgh, then Chicago, tenn, Cincy, and Indy. Overall the Fans on the road seem to be more diehard and enthusiastic then at the Burgh. can't wait for the St. Louis takeover.

Amen! The same thing happened to a couple guys a few seats down from me during the Dolphins game. I've noticed there is a real lack of enthusiam from several people that sit around me. Some people are just too f-n lazy to stand up during crucial parts of the game. The other thing is half of the people at the games never yell or scream when the other team has the ball. It really pisses me off.

Yeah, I don't know what was up with some of those people. I've seen a lot of those fans at the games I've been to. But it's that way weather it's freezing or sunny. It pisses me off. Makes me wonder how they got their tickets. I mean if you're lucky enough to obtain tickets for face value (or less) you might as well get your 60 Minutes of football worth win or lose. And if you're paying over face value....all the more reason to stick around.

Before I had season tickets, I always went to a lot of games b/c someone was unable to go or whatever but I went to every game once it got cold. Those seats were easier to come by.

Left only one game early but it was at the 2 minute warning (my partner was frozen). Watched the ending on a lower level while my friend was plodding to the car and that game we won over New England by about 21 points.

As stated, it's becoming more and more of a status symbol. The people that have season tickets for 15-20 years now are getting older, while the common guy is getting priced out of the stadium by ticket brokers and ebay.

I was very surprised with the attendance also. It was the first time that I got to go to a game at Heinz field. I was surprised that there were so many empty seats. The weather wasn't that bad. Hell, I drove the whole way from Dayton. I usually only get to go to the Bungal game in Cincy each year. It was kind of a let down to see the Stadium like that with a game that had such a big Play-off like feel. I also was disturbed to see so many fans leave early. They missed a pretty good finish. It started to remind me when I was watching the Steelers beat up the Bengals pre-Marvin Lewis. I also wish the tickets were more readily available to those who want them, and not have to be raped by the ticket brokers to get them.
