I calculated many of these stats from SI.com, which gets its stats from stats.com. I cannot really verify the correctness of some of the numbers (such as passes intended for ward that were batted down at the line) but, since I have no better numbers, I'll assume that they provide the best idea of what is accurate if not correct.

It should be noted that I only calculated stats for Ward, Holmes, Miller, Washington, and Wilson. Spaeth, Reid, Tuman and the running backs were left out.

First, the easy ones:
Passes caught:
1 Ward (71)
2 Holmes (52)
3 Miller (47)
4 Washington (29)
5 Wilson (18)

Yards gained:
1 Holmes (942)
2 Ward (732)
3 Miller (566)
4 Washington (450)
5 Wilson (207)

And now, the interesting stats:

Times targetted:
1 Ward (112)
2 Holmes (85)
3 Miller (61)
4 Washington (55)
5 Wilson (30)

Catchable balls*
1 Ward (90)
2 Holmes (63)
3 Miller (51)
4 Washington (39)
5 Wilson (25)

Drops + Miscommunications
1 Ward (7)
2t Holmes (3)
2t Washington (3)
4t Wilson (1)
4t Miller (1)

Percent of times targetted that catch is made
1 Miller (77%)
2 Ward (63%)
3 Holmes (61%)
4 Wilson (60%)
5 Washington (53%)

Percent of catchable balls that catch is made
1 Miller (92%)
2 Holmes (83%)
3 Ward (78%)
4 Washington (74%)
5 Wilson (72%)

Percent of targets that led to first downs
1 Miller (52%)
2 Holmes (49%)
3 Wilson (43%)
4 Ward (41%)
5 Washington (38%)

Percent of missed passes caused by drops/miscommunications
1 Ward (17%)
2 Washington (12%)
3 Holmes (9%)
4 Wilson (8%)
5 Miller (7%)

Yards per target
1 Holmes (11.08)
2 Miller (9.28)
3 Washington (8.18)
4 Wilson (6.9)
5 Ward (6.5)

Percent of third down targets that led to first downs
1 Miller (66%)
2 Holmes (61%)
3 Ward (56%)
4 Wilson (50%)
5 Washington (41%)

Percent of third down catches that led to first downs
1t Washington (100% 7-7)
1t Wilson (100% 6-6)
3 Holmes (94% 17-18)
4 Ward (88% 22-25)
5 Miller (82% 14-17)

I'll be back later to discuss.

Seems like Hines had more than 7 drops this year that were catchable. He had a couple games with 2 or 3 in each game.

The "drop" stat is usually only when the ball is in the receivers hands, and the receiver is not hit during the catch I believe. Getting a recorded "drop" is usually a pretty flagrant drop.

So, if Ben would throw every pass to Heath, his completion % would be 71% and we would be unstoppable. It's an easy game.

Conclusion: Give Heath Miller a 10 yerar contract right now.

Oh, the catchable ball statistic is one I calculated from the times targetted less the overthrows, underthrows, wide throws, intentional throw aways and passes batted down at the line of scrimmage. Because a pass could conceivably be both underthrown and thrown wide (although I don't know if stats records things in such a way) the catchable ball statistic should be taken with a grain of salt.

...and throw to either Wilson or Nate on every 3rd down.

These stats are not surprising relative to Heath Miller. He has the best hands on the team. He catches everything.

Ward was playing with damaged cartilage in his knee. His receiving skills are better than what he showed this year.

Wait, if Ward had 90 catchable balls, but only caught 71 wouldn't that mean he dropped 19? And no way hell he was even close to that, even 7 seems a bit steep.

See my disclaimers about catchable ball statistic, drop stat. Actually, the stat i listed was drops and miscommunications (wrong routes, etc.) This was meant to show just blatant mental errors. Ward had 5 tabulated drops and 2 miscommunications.

Ward has the better DB most of the game covering him and takes more double coverage. I wonder how many other #1 receivers on other teams have this same type production or lack there of.

Well thanks! Now I can understand why arians called "the fade" to washington..

My mind is finally at ease....

I wish Washington would live up to his potential. That guy could be a beast if he would just bring the ball down. He missed a TD in the playoff game. Wasn't the easiest catch, but that's why you like a guy like him, to make plays like that.

He runs good routes and gets open, I just wish he were more consistant.

I didn't need stats to see that, but looking at only 53% catches made when targeted makes it worse.

You know, I think Ben missed him on that fade. He was open if Ben throws it on a line to him.

Washington is targetted for alot more deep plays, and obviously in more obvious pass situations (which both play to his disadvantage at this stat.) 53% isn't a great number, but it's not pack your bags type play either.

1) Isn't this the same Stats organization that credits Ray Lewis with every 3rd tackle made on the field and sometimes when he is not playing?

2) Freddie Mitchell will be pissed to see those stats by Washington.

Fades are not thrown on a line.

Add to this Miller's first-down-marker awareness, his willingness to fight and give up his body to get there, his blocking ability, and his general unselfishness, and you've got a real Steeler-type player. I really hope he sticks here his whole career.

and to think he's from Virginia, too. Good thing i picked up my Miller jersey at the start of the season, they're likely to be going like hotcakes now.

Kind of sums up the way I feel, time to cut Nate.
