View Full Version : Any news on Reed?

Did he pull something warming up for the potential game winning kick? Why did Berger kick off after the TD? It made sense going for two only up by 5, but would Reed have been able to kick the FG if Ward doesn't pull in that pass?

Reed has made some clutch kicks for us, Sometimes even twice (see Balt last week). They were saying something about him hobbling around on the sidelines before the kickoff. Didn't know if it was serious.

They said a calf injury on the radio.

This was in the Jacksonville Times Union

The pass also was important because kicker Jeff Reed was injured during the game and punter Mitch Berger would have had to try the field goal if the pass was incomplete.

Didn't Reed get a tackle on a kick return? Maybe he got hurt on that play

Hopefully we wont need Reed in the clutch this year to much more, but he has been money lately. Hopefully he can get healthy soon.

No one is escaping this year w/o some kind of injury.

That's what I saw also, otherwise I thought he got hurt on the kick return after the TD. Yet he was there warming up. Hope he didn't pull a gramatica and kicked the Gatorade cooler after Ward caught the TD...

So would Reed have been able to kick a potential game winning field goal on that last drive had we stalled offensively?

I noticed him "warming up" too; but, when I saw Berger come out I didn't hear the reason why...

Me too. I just figured that two things had happened.

Reed is above squib kicking the ball, and left those duties to Berger, or
He was already in the locker room setting up paparazzi for his after party when they got back into the Burgh.

Maybe he could have kicked a short field goal but didn't have enough leg for a kickoff.

Good thing it's bye week. They can remove his bionic leg and fed-ex it to the lab. I think it's still under warranty. They should have it back to him by next Monday.

Also said on sportsbeat that Reed would not have been able to kick a FG if they had not scored the touchdown. The Steelers may be looking to add a kicker to the team. If the injury is serious thats gona hurt. Reed has been clutch for the last couple years.

I read today somewhere that Reed has a groin pull. Not sure if that's accurate, because other things I've read say calf pull. A calf pull is probably easier to heal than a groin pull for a kicker.

Looking ahead, what does that mean if it does't heal right away? (And as a former kicker, I know that pulls can linger for the rest of the season - placekicking actually puts more strain on the muscles than does sprinting, because you use absolutely the full range of motion on the muscles, my trainer told me. Both years I pulled muscles, they didn't fully heal until after the season ended).

I know that Berger can kick off and read that he was noted for his booming kickoffs on past teams (I'm not sure if his kick off last night was an intentional squib kick). Can he kick field goals if need be? As far as I know, he has never attempted one in the pros.

If not, what do we do until he heals?

Geez not the kicker? Break out the bubble wrap plastic and wrap up every player on this team for the next 7 days.

Our camp body from Virginia, can't think of his name right now but he is very good. Not as good as reed but he could step in for a few weeks and give us a good replacement. What in the hell is his name? Damn???

According to Hargrove and Tunch on the radio, that's what happened.

Yes he was. He was right in front of me...I'm confused...guess he was trying to loosen up or something.

Sounds like he's going to be fine by 10/19 and it's not his groin, it's his left calf musle...

Reed injured

As the Steelers drove toward what might have been the winning field goal in the closing minutes of Sunday night's game, it started to become apparent on their sideline that they could not try a field goal with Jeff Reed. His left calf, his plant leg, was injured at some point in the game and he was unavailable. Punter Mitch Berger was practicing kicking into the net as the Steelers drew within field-goal range -- but whose range?

Jacksonville coach Jack Del Rio said he expected the Steelers to run when they had third down at the Jaguars' 31, trailing by a point with 2:57 left in the game. Pick up a few more yards and let Reed try a field goal of 46-49 yards. Reed's injury was unbeknownst to Del Rio, though, until after the game.

Instead, Ben Roethlisberger dropped back and scrambled to his left with a defender hanging on him on that third down. He threw an 18-yard pass completion to Hines Ward that set up the winning touchdown pass with 1:53 left.

The Steelers went for two points, unsuccessfully, and then Berger kicked off.

Reed is expected to be OK in time for their next game Oct. 19.

That is good news for Reed being good by our next game. He has become a very clutch kicker now and I must admit is kicking the ball much better on kickoffs.
