McFadden vs. Taylor
who's our best CB??
McFadden has been outstanding since replacing Townsend. After numerous projects i'm glad we finally developed a good starter. I still remember the days of Poteat and Retardo Colclough.....
F.O. needs to re-sign McFadden no matter what. We drafted him, taught him, brought him up, and now that he looks like he's turned the corner and is playing great, I don't wanna lose him to another team. With Townsend getting older by the day, we cannot afford to let McFadden go.

Colbert will get right on that. Oh, wait, that's right, it would be a HUGE distraction if they tried to talk to McFadden's agent right now. And, anyway, I think Colbert has already taken up residence is his off-season home.
McFadden has been much better than Ike so far this year.

McFadden has been much better. Five games in, and Ike hasn't even defended a pass this season. McFadden has 6 PDefs and 2 INTs and more tackles - in one less start. Hypothetically, If we had to choose only one to keep after this year, it would be McFadden. Too bad he has Rosenhaus for an agent.

McFadden seems to have much better hands than Ike........but then again so does an alligator...:D

one of McFaddens INT's was a gift from McNab....it was a nice catch, though.
I'd say it's still Ike.....too bad he can't catch....it keeps him from jumping up a class.
but yeah, I been a BFad wagoner for a while, he played HS ball down here, it's been nice to see him step it up when he gets his turn.....I hope we can afford to keep him.
McFadden's played much better IMO. Every 3rd and long completion was to Ike's man. Besides, I
F****N can't stand his intro; "Ike Taylor..........Swaggin" Who the F***k does he think he is? Outside of Pittsburgh, nobody even knows who he is.

I know I know.....I hate that mentality. It's not confident, it's stupid, it's not funny, it's not what the Steelers are about at all.
Ike needs to drop that "Swaggin" bullsh!t.

It doesn't matter whether Ike can catch or not when he never touches the ball. Here I thought a CB was supposed to defend passes.

McFadden is a beast! Should have gotten a deal done last year it will be much more expensive to sign him now.

McFadden is doing great, but it is a product of the system. Ike is playing shutdown, and QBs aren't throwing his was as often. Also keep in mind, other team's OCs drool when they hear a new player is starting for the other team. They design plays to isolate the new guy to try to exploit his inexperience. Bmac has done a terrific job of showing he understands the game. Bottom line is we haven't had a secondary this good since Woodson and Lake left.

well....McFadden has more passes defensed....
Really? Like I said in the fourth post in this thread, "Five games in, and Ike hasn't even defended a pass this season. McFadden has 6 PDefs and 2 INTs and more tackles - in one less start."
Ike hasn't defended any passes or made any interceptions. Thus "It doesn't matter whether Ike can catch or not when he never touches the ball."
Ike is playing shutdown, and QBs aren't throwing his was as often
Shutdown? Is that why the outs are constantly open against him? And as for your statement that teams are throwing his way less, would you care to back that up with hard evidence? I certainly haven't noticed that. The play by plays are on nfl.com.
Regardless of chances, wouldn't you think a starting CB would have at least one pass defensed through 5 complete starts?

McFadden is playing better right now. Ike was having trouble guarding Mason against the Rats. The kid may not be guarding the other team's #1 guy, but I wouldn't worry if he were moved over to do so.

Ike is our best CB. He has taken away his side of the field for a good part of this season.

I still believe Ike is our best CB on the team and McFadden is easily #2. It has been nice to watch McFadden grow as a CB. I just really hope we can keep him after this season. I would hate to lose a talented CB like McFadden.

They are both solid and we are lucky to have them there at pretty young ages. Ike has played solid as shit and last time I checked no one has put it all over him for quite some time. B mac has had two better games in a row and I think he must be signed as well.
Before you throw Ike under the bus know this, B Mac has had the ball thrown his way because of the respect Ike has earned from the other side. In turn B mac has looked good defending those balls coming to him. But make no mistake about it so far most balls are being thrown away from Ike. Other then a couple of outs on ZONE D. Someone on here was kind enough to suggest that ike was getting used on those out plays. I have saw that as well where they throw just over the LB and infront of the Corner. IF you knew much about football you would know how stupid of a comment that was.
On a zone pack that is the perfect play call. If you notice Troy is up at the line and our Safety has deep cover towards B mac's side. that leaves Ike with one on one Deep cover so there for the 20 yard out is there if you throw a good ball and read that D correct, as well as having that played called.
Have you ever wondered why they don't throw the same ball the next play when it seems it worked so easy the play before? because we are not in the same D
bottom line don't put those plays on IKE, if the o calls a good play and everyone reads it correct then they are going to make a few plays.

McFadden is doing a good job but Ike is still our best corner. Offenses are throwing more to McFadden's side of the field because of Ike. Copy and paste the article below as I could not get it to link:

I'm darn near the biggest Ike Apologist around, but I can't see any truth in this.... I don't think Ike is playing poorly, and it's really difficult for me to know how much is scheme (sometimes when Ike gets "beat", it's zone, and he doesn't really have man-responsibility), but McFadden is outplaying Ike right now.
It's this kind of crap that REALLY ticks me off about this idiotic "no negotiating in-season" policy. When you have two corners like this, you HAVE to lock them down. Even if Ike isn't playing great, the pair of Ike/McFadden is important to keep together. If McFadden continues to play this way, and we lose him, it's devastating to this defense.
This is why you don't pay $7MM to the 8th best OL on your team. Instead, you "roll it over" to next year and pay guys that earn the money.

I like Ike, and I know how our scheme puts our CBs at a disadvantage sometimes. I may be nitpicking, but I'd like to see him defend a pass occasionally. He does have to cover his third of the field most of the time, but when its 3rd and 15, I'd like to think he can defend a 20 yard pass. Within the zone, down and distance have to be considered.
3-15-PHI 34 (14:14) (Shotgun) 5-D.McNabb pass deep left to 84-H.Baskett to PIT 46 for 20 yards (24-I.Taylor).
Or when the Steelers are clinging to a one point lead late in the 3rd quarter, I'd like to think he won't be beaten deep.
1-10-JAC 35 (:56) 9-D.Garrard pass deep left to 81-M.Walker to PIT 33 for 32 yards (24-I.Taylor).
The Steelers don't always rotate a safety to the right side. They play a lot of cover 3, with Troy up near or in the box, leaving Taylor, Clark, and McFadden or Townsend to each cover their third of the field. They also play some cover 2, with both safeties playing over the top.
I counted up the completions to Ike's man/side using the play-by-plays on nfl.com, eliminating passes to RBs, and found that through 5 games he allowed 11 completions for 143 yards, a 39 yard PI penalty, with 0 passes defensed and 0 INTs. McFadden allowed 15 completions for 152 yards, had 2 INTs and 6 passes defensed. I don't know how to compute the total passes attempted to both sides without going back and finding "coverage by..." on the play-by-play, which I'm not going to do because I'm sick of weeding through those damn things. If Taylor's teammates say teams are avoiding Ike, I have to believe it.
Regardless, we have two good starting CBs and need to keep it that way. Townsend is a great third CB and Gay might be ready to be a third CB, but losing McFadden would really hurt, and would make CB a high priority next offseason - reducing the number of early picks we can spend on OL and DL.

I´m just glad we have two solid CB´s. Gay has a lot of potential as well.
Anyhow, McFadden is still listed as a back-up on the official depth chart. Maybe I missed something but has he "officially" won the starting spot? Has Tomlin made an official announcement?
From what I´ve seen, Townsend has only been playing the nickel.

Ike's experience takes him over the top against McFadden although he is quite a CB.

I completely agree with this statement. With the way McFadden is playing he is earning more and more pay as each week passes. It will be a damn shame if we lose McFadden. I will be really pissed if we let a talented kid like McFadden slip away. No question he is a big reason why our defense is playing much better.
