Norv Turner is “flying” the San Diego Chargers talented roster about as well as Buddy Holly’s pilot. Marty Schottenheimer may have fallen short of the Super Bowl 2 years ago, but at least he got them to that AFC championship game. Missing the playoffs is a real possibility for this team.
More than a year removed from Bill Parcells departure in Dallas, it appears that Wade Phillips can’t get TO to stay on his meds like the Tuna did. Terrell & the ‘Boys will be providing some quality sideshow entertainment before the regular season ends, and will golden boy Tony Romo ever get a playoff win? Magic 8 ball say ask again later.
By week 8 (or so), the Brady (never met a crotch I wouldn’t grab) Quinn era will get under way in Cleveland. If I were Hank Fraley, I’d get an extra thick jock for junk-grab protection.
Since the free-agency era in the NFL began, no “Franchise” QB has been allowed to test his value on the FA market. Teams routinely lock up stars at their most important position. There have been a few trades, a la Drew Brees, but Brady, Manning; Roethlisberger all will make their careers in one city.
While it’s debatable whether “franchise QB” applies, if you were Carson Palmer, would you want to sign another long-term deal to stay with the Bengals? He may go the way of Corey Dillon & Takeo Spikes and tell Mike Brown; “Not for any amount of money.”
Albert Hayneworth is the closest thing to a modern-day Joe Greene in the NFL today.
