for the QB and WR/TE's of our opponent. I cannot say one good thing about their play today. If this organization does not address the secondary early in the draft or through free agency we had better get used to this record. As bad as we need an improvement on the o-line, the secondary is worse...far worse.

Both were in position to make a play on Heap's TDs but didn't.

We need to sign a street FA this week & start him.

I feel bad for Deshea because he is being forced back into a starting role while he is past his prime and can't do the things he was able to when he was younger. He was a fine starting CB for years in this league but at this point he is definitely best suited to be a nickle back because of diminished skills. Now he's being forced to run with WR'S that he can no longer stay with at his age.

we will have to free up some $ to bring in quality FA DB's in here. Hopefully, Colbert can do his magic with some Diamonds in the Rough. Letting Willie Parker go should do that alittle.

we thought Favre & Co. would have went wild, but kept them in check.

Perhaps but that had very little to do with the play of Townsend and Gay. I have never seen a player give the cushion that Gay does...you could complete a 5 yard pass on him EVERY single down if you wanted.

Leigh Bodden would be a perfect FA to go after this offseason. Theres no way they won't do something about it. Going into next year with Gay or Townsend starting just isn't acceptable.

Our defense is always like that. The corners play 10-12 yards off the ball at times. They're playing it safe, give up the short catches and make the tackle. Problem with Gay is that he misses the tackles on the short completions so those turn into long completions, and he can't cover downfield.

Yep...poor tackling and poor cover skills is a bad combination in this league.

the problem is we NEVER make a splash in free agency. and now we have no one to develop. when it come to free agents we sign the Joey Galloways of the world..

I'm convinced that when AD ran over Gay, he took everything from him including his manhood. The guy is as worthless as US treasury bonds. Absolutely no reason for him to even be on the roster next year.

Gay hasnt tried to make a tackle since he knocked Frank Summers on his ass in training camp, and Carey Davis yelled at him. If he can knock a 240lb back on his ass, why can't he tackle now?

actually Ike has been up on his man a more recently. but Gay is taking that cushion to the next level, he's playing scared. still trying to figure out what Gay/Townsend were doing on Mason to begin with tho.

we have Joe Burnett and Kenan Lewis, we have players to develope, but we also need someone that can go RIGHT NOW.

Gay not only gets beat constantly and misses tackles, but he NEVER MAKES A PLAY either. This pretty much makes a player worthless. Not one INT when the opposition is constantly throwing your way?

problem is this team or coaches don't want to start rookies because our defense is soooooooooooooooo complicated that a rookie college graduate can't understand it. It just pisses me off when they kept on sending gay out there play after play to get burned and MT with that clueless look on his face.

Judging by the way this season has gone, we probably would have beat two good teams like the colts and saints, we're lucky we didn't play the rams or the buccaneers, those scrubs would've probably torched us.

Ike had a solid game yesterday. I believe he was matched up on Clayton all day (did he even play?).

I do not really agree with that comparison at all, as Taylor can actually tackle and stay close to his man. Gay sucks all around.

Though there are needs in others areas, namely ILB, DT, and OL, there is little doubt that CB is currently this team's biggest need.

Taylor is decent, but Gay and Townsend, as this point in his career, are not even remotely close to starting caliber. Over the past two games, I've noticed that opposing QBs have not even bothered throwing at Taylor because it is so much easier to throw at other players in the secondary, particularly Gay and Carter.

Though I was skeptical of Gay being able to fill in for him, the loss of McFadden has turned out to be more devastating that anyone could have imagined. The injuries to Polamalu have no doubt magnified the loss of McFadden, but even if Troy had been in there playing, the inept play of Gay would still have been exposed on a weekly basis. McFadden was no shutdown CB, but like Taylor, he could tackle and cover well enough to consistently contest passes.

The need for a CB opposite Taylor is so great that I do not think the Steelers can afford to go into next season dependent on the development of Lewis or Burnett or the play of rookie. They seriously need to examin the options available to them in FA and perhaps even consider a trade.

He was questionable when the game started, he started but I think he left shortly after the game started.

Anyone think Adam Jones could contribute? Sure he'd have to leave his baggage behind. He's got to be better than the stiffs out there now.

Both were in position to make a play on Heap's TDs but didn't.

I was relegated to listening to the game, due to car issues, I was stuck along I 76 for a while on Sun, however I did hear the steeler announcers (tuch or bill) say there was a pushoff that made the play happen. Was he wrong?

Deshea and William were both horrible yesterday. IMO Townsend didn't make an attempt on the first TD pass to Heap. Also, that was Townsend getting burnt by Derrick Mason on his dropped TD pass. I can't believe I actually thought William Gay could be decent at starting at CB for us this season. The FO definitely needs to address the secondary in the off season. I still think Joe Burnett and Keenan Lewis can contribute to this defense. And please don't even think about resigning Tyrone Carter. This bum needs to find his 2nd career.

I watched the game and didn't notice, but did hear that from various post game shows. I think regardless Heap was going to make the catch because Townsend was on the outside and behind Heap and didn't adjust.
