How many Steelers do you think go to Hawaii? I would say Ben is a lock...it should be him, Brady, and Manning. Ben has 29 td's, 11 picks, and plays behind the worst or very close to the worst o-line in the league. After that I think Willie runs the best chance and then Hampton, Harrison, and Reed. I think we will have 3 players when all is said and done....Ben, Willie, Casey. Anyone see it differently?

Don't be surprised if Anderson goes ahead of Ben.

Don't be surprised if Anderson goes ahead of Ben.

No chance in hell. OK let's see...

Rating - Ben 100.5, Anderson 85.8
TD's - Ben 29, Anderson 26
Int's - Ben 11, Anderson 14
Comp% - Ben 64.7, Anderson 56.2
Yards - Ben 2,897, Anderson 3,384

Score - Ben 4, Anderson 1

Throw in that in their head to head meeting Ben's team won and Ben probably played his best game of the year.

The only person you can make a legit case for in the AFC is Garrard but he missed 3 games due to injury....Ben is the choice IMO and if he is not it would be a damn crime. Take him off this Steeler team and we are 5-9 at best.

They should cancel the pro-bowl if Anderson goes instead of Ben. Put Anderson behind this wreck of an offensive line and see how he does.

As of the beginning of December, Polamalu was leading all safeties in votes.. which is highway robbery.. He shouldn't be allowed anywhere near that stadium.

I'm guessing, Ben, Parker, Faneca (on name), Hampton, Polamalu (on name and popularity) , and Harrison is a decent chance.

Fuck Anderson,
Manning 28 TD's, 14 INT's, 95.2 rating
Ben 29 TD's, 11 INT's, 100.5 rating
I realize Manning has been missing a ton of players on offense, but that's saying something when Ben tops all his stats.
If Ben doesn't make the pro bowl, it's pure bullshit with the Oline he plays behind.

maybe I am just being a homer, but I felt Ben should have went his rookie season, 13 straight wins and an AFC championship apperance. I know he had a lot of help, and the coaches actually did a grat job the way they managed the game for him, but how many rookie records does Big Ben hold..

Steelerlyn1017

Big Ben SHOULD make the Pro Bowl behind Brady and Manning. However, given the fact that the Steelers have been on a downward curve lately and not an upswing might sway the votes toward someone else like Derek Anderson.

Most Steelers fans think so, but he doesn't tackle well enough to be the best safety in the game. Sanders, Reed, and Adrian Wilson are all more complete players.

And his actual play the past two years definitely doesn't warrant going to the Pro Bowl.

I would take a straight up trade, Troy for Sanders right now. Sanders is a tackling machine.

Coryea

Reed gets beat deep a ton and can't tackle worth a shit, if you want a safety that is good with the ball in his hands then he's your guy.
Sanders is awesome love him, but he tackles the same way, uses himself like a torpedo, see the 2005 Monday night game when he kept coming up and popping Parker, he never once wrapped him up, and he's average in coverage.
Adrian Wilson, I don't get to see enough of him.

Most DB's don't wrap up, especially vs RB's, it's not just Troy.

Sanders may not have had a great game against us a few years ago but he is one of the best tackling safeties in the game. Have you watched him this year? Or last year during their playoff run? He has been stellar.

If I'm building a team, I take Sanders over Polamalu and Reed. He's better than both of them.

Sanders is so much better than Troy it is not even funny. He elevates his teams play and they are awful defensively when he is out. We on the other hand are a better, more sound defense when Troy and his gimmick blitz and freelance crap is out with injuries accorsing to the stats, the wins and losses and the shutouts.

Reed is a heavy hitter and has good hands. That's it. He's lost trying to cover one on one and isn't that great in space.

Troy, Sanders and Adrian Wilson on the Cards are far and away the best safeties in the NFL.

Bob Sanders is awesome, he's one of my favorite non-Steelers, but he tackles the same exact way as Troy does, as do most DB's.
Sanders averages 1 tackle more per game than Troy does this year, Troy has 8 passes defensed in 10 games Sanders has 3 in 13 games. Maybe Sanders is a little better vs the run, but Troy is was better in pass coverage, he's a more complete player than Sanders is.

So Blount, what you're saying is that you'd rather have Tyrone Carter starting instead of Troy?

Interesting phenomenon:

A lot of people are interested in who makes the Pro Bowl.

But relatively few actually take time to watch the game. Traditionally it's a very low-rated telecast.

I think I once wrote that pro bowling on ABC drew a bigger audience...

I like the skills competition things they do more than the game, but I usually watch the game if there's a few Steelers playing.

My favorite is when ESPN does the Gridiron Challenge, where they compete in different sports and advents, it was pretty funny watching Porter and Chad Johnson trying to hit a golf ball.

I think the point he's trying to make is that all the accolades don't mean a thing if he isn't a solid contributor to the team. He is not a man for resting on his laurels. The man has always been uncomfortable being singled out. The Jacksonville game was the closest to the old 'balls to the wall' Troy we've seen this year. Most games this season he's been a half-step off. His fantasy numbers were way off, even before he was out with the knee.

Faneca got in strictly on his name this year, because his play sure hasn't been up to par. It kills me that FN Faneca gets in and Casey Hampton does not.

Nice to see Harrison being recognized. Deservedly so. He's been a real bright spot on the defense this season.

Shame on those who didn't think Ben would make it. Hang your heads.

Come on that's not fair. I doubt there's anyone who didn't think he deserved it. But I felt sure he wouldn't get selected because:

1) Ben plays for the Steelers, "a running team. All he does is manage the game." We all know that's not the case, especially this year. He broke a franchise record for touchdown passes that stood for how long, and has been fantastic with a shitty O-line and a less than stellar and healthy WR corps. I think one game the Steelers started Washington and Wilson at WR because Hines and Holmes were both injured. I would love to see lord Brady put up the big numbers behind our line, with Arians playcalling, having to rely on a 50% Holmes, an aging Ward, Washington and Wilson. Gimmie a break. It would be a train wreck.

2) David Garrard and Derek Anderson are the new hotness, despite the numbers Big Ben has put up. Manning got in on name recognition, and Brady simply couldn't be denied this year. I thought for sure it would be Anderson over Ben, because the Browns have be so shitty for so long, somebody comes along at QB and has a good season, makes the Pro Bowl, it's a great story. It would have been a travesty to non-homer football fans the NFL over, but man, ESPN would be poppin right now.

I said it before and I'll say it again. Other than Tom Brady, NO QUARTERBACK IN THE AFC, including Manning, deserves to be in the Pro Bowl ahead of Big Ben. Not this year. Talk about doing more with less. Ben could tell you all about it.

I didn't think he'd make it. I thought he'd get robbed. Sure you heard about his play up until the Steelers hit this funk they're in. Then it was all Garrard and Anderson. But Ben wasn't playing that badly, if it was bad at all. He was steady if unspectacular. He earned it this year, and I'm glad people outside of Pittsburgh's fan base saw it. Once you get labeled a "game manager", it's tough to shake no matter what you do. I'm proud of Ben. This is a few years over due if you ask me.

and like I pointed out, he only has 10 more points than Reed. so what exactly is your argument here? do you really think Boronas is a better kicker? lets not forget that he had EIGHT of those in one game, so he basically gets in because of one game?

Yes, I think he's a better kicker. His "touchback %" is also nearly double Reed's.

And I really dislike Fred Taylor, so him not making the pro bowl again makes me happy

Sorry Muffin, but that's just wrong, I hate the jags as much as the next folk, but I'd rather see Fred get in. He's earned it.

I know it is wrong, but I can't help it. I can't stand the guy. Yeah, he earned it, but it gives me better satisfaction knowing that he didn't get in. Yeah, I know. I am a bitch.;)

I'm sorry, but I have to say this.

Troy getting into the Pro Bowl is an absolute joke.

I'm sorry, but it is.

Do I think he is a great player, yes. Do I think he is a pro bowl CALIBER of player, yes.

But THIS year he has done nothing performance-wise to justify a pro bowl designation. Other than past performance from previous years.

I agree with you. And I am a HUGE Troy fan.

I also think Bironas is a very good kicker, but do you honestly believe he could put up good numbers like Reed if he had to kick in Heinz field 8 games a season? No question Bironas has a very strong leg, but Reed has done a decent job residing in Pittsburgh.
