I'm shocked there isn't a thread here about this. What was the net difference in yards from this weeks kickoff to last weeks onsides? I didn't get to see the game, but heard it on the radio, he made it back to what, our 49? If I recall that's like a 10 yard difference from our onside net. Now, yes, the steelers pulled this one out, the defense somewhat showed up for the second half, but turns out kicking it deep doesn't always make much of a difference does it?

I don't think you can compare the % of getting an onside kick to terrible ST.

You're right. Our ST suck 100% of the time :p

Really? You are aware that our average starting position for opposing teams is around the 35 - 40 this year? And this team has also allowed several td returns from punts or kickoffs this year as well. It just amazed me how everyone was throwing out numbers on that argument never once mentioned how horrid our st play has been this year, it was like it was a given that had we kicked it deep the other team would have had farther to drive, I was like "really? And we think that why?" If the net difference between kicking it deep and onsides is 10 yards, I'd onside kick it every time, with an onside at least you have a chance of getting the ball back.

All of this has been pointed out before. I have found most of the people whose opinions I tend to actually respect in things pertaining to American Football to mostly agree that the onsides kick in that situation was a worthy gamble. We have had fairly poor coverage in special teams especially in kick return yardage, and the defense was playing very poor vs the pass and our O had been moving the ball well and to top it off no one expected it. If you always play it conservativly you will rarely beat teams better than you unless they themselves make a plethora of mistakes....

And it was a decision that helped the Steelers win against the Packers. Sometimes it just doesn't matter what Tomlin does because he is going to get criticized no matter the decision or outcome.

Everyone has moved on to the timeout that ended up meaning absolutely nothing.

And that's just as bad as the onside kick one.........but good luck trying to convince the naysayers about both of them :-)

IŽll tell you this, if it hadnŽt been for Anthony Madison, they could have returned a TDs on us. Our kick coverage has improved a little bit from breaking to bending.

I totally agree. Getting Anthony Madison back was one of the best decisions made this season. Hopefully they realize going forward Anthony needs to remain on the team even if it's just for special teams play.

Just because we won doesn't make the call right and all the coach lovers will be fine with whatever he does. IF he doesn't make the TO or the onside kick that is fine, if he does that is fine.... wonderful.. coach can do no wrong...
