View Full Version : I'd love to see Polamalu and Smith switch positions...

Depending on the health of Ryan Clark, if I had one comment for Lebeau in the offseason, it would to consider moving Troy Polamalu to FS and Anthony Smith to SS.

Smith's aggression won't hurt him at much at SS. With the way he lays wood and plays, I think it's the more natural position for him. Also, with Troy's speed FS seems like a more natural fit as well (plus hopefully it'll keep him healthy.)

I'm sure I'm not the first person to suggest it, but the more I think about it the more I think I'd at least try the switch.

Troy could never replace Smith, he just can't talk shit like Smith can...

I've seen him get burned like wood the last month of the year more than him laying it.

The reason Troy plays up near the LOS so much is we lack speed at ILB, per a few of the Steeler writers. If Timmons can come along and take over for Foote, Troy can become the player he was in 2004 and 2005, and just play near the LOS here and there.

The switch...if it were to happen...could upset the D because of the speed issues we face w/ our CB's.

If we can FINALLY provide some pressure w/ some NEW BLITZ schemes...then my statement is moot. But, until then, I say keep Troy P. back and let Mista Mouf come up and bang somebody...

Generally, Ike is on the left side and Deshea/McFadden are on the right side. FS covers over the right, SS covers over the left. If there is a speed issue with our corners, it's with McFadden and Deshea, not Ike. So.. I guess I'm not sure what you're talking about.

I'm not sure that Troy could be as incapable of blocking as Marvel, but I doubt he could be any worse.

And as a SS he'd be given more assignments that play to that aggressive behavior. Smith still needs to learn discipline, but as a SS he's given a little more freedom to be aggressive. As a FS you absolutely need to be disciplined--as you're the last line in defense.

What ever happened with Keisel playing in a Troy-like position ?

Remember that at the end of pre-season ?

IMO, I think Keisel put on a little more weight to play DE, and he doesn't have the speed he did when he played special teams and was a situational player on defense.

I don't know if putting a guy who has issues tackling at free safety makes alot of sense.

Why would you want one of our guys sitting in front of a computer downloading porn, making feeble attempts at "wit" and gloating over online poker?

IMO Timmons could easily replace Foote or Farrior in 2008. Also could we please just dump Tyrone Carter now.

You just said the same thing twice, lol.

as for the topic, I think it could work, but first we need to test Timmons and Woodley.

I don't think he could replace Farrior, while Farrior is a huge liability in the passing game, Farrior does a good job of getting off of blocks in the running game, and Farrior calls all the defensive signals. I don't think Timmons is ready for that.
