At first when i read Zimmer i thought that it was Don Zimmer---LOL. This Zimmer, however, is most likely perfect for us....errr, i mean them. Just read the 2nd last paragraph and smile...

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Atlanta Falcons defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer was hired Tuesday for the same role with the Cincinnati Bengals, who have been dragged down by their defense for years.

The 51-year-old Zimmer was available because of the Falcons' uncertainty over their next head coach. The Falcons hired Tom Dimitroff as general manager on Sunday, and are still looking for a head coach to replace Bobby Petrino, who quit after 13 games.

Their assistant coaches were free to look for other jobs. The Bengals were looking for help.

Zimmer becomes the third defensive coordinator under Marvin Lewis, who has led the Bengals to the playoffs once during his five seasons as head coach. Poor defense has been a constant thread.

"Mike has coordinated defenses at a high level in the NFL for a number of years, and this is obviously a very important hire for me and for our organization," Lewis said in a statement.

The Bengals planned to introduce Zimmer at a news conference Wednesday.

Defensive coordinator Leslie Frazier was fired after Lewis' second season. Chuck Bresnahan replaced him for the past three seasons, but failed to improve a unit that has regularly ranked in the bottom third of the league.

Zimmer was the Dallas Cowboys' defensive coordinator for seven seasons before moving to the Falcons last year. The Cowboys' defense gave up the fewest yards in the league in 2003.

Atlanta finished 29th in yards allowed and gave up 414 points, fourth-most in the NFL, amid the turmoil of Petrino's departure. Atlanta gave up 34, 37, 30 and 41 points in its last four games.
The Bengals were 27th in yards allowed and gave up 385 points, prompting them to fire Bresnahan and linebackers coach Ricky Hunley following a 7-9 finish

Funny thing about Zimmer was he was being groomed by Parcell's to take over when he eventually left. But even by his own admission, the 34 baffled the hell out of him and he never felt like he knew what he was doing and he threw it all away to take the same position as the DC of Atlanta's 43 D. And a couple of weeks later the Tuna retired. If he had just hung in there two more weeks, he could've been the HC of Dallas instead of Wade Phillips and just hired a DC who knew the 34 better than him. Now he gets washed out by Petrino's wake, and floats off to Cincy wondering where it all went wrong. Very safe to assume they won't be switching to a 34 any time soon.

He was hot shit in Dallas. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter who the coach is, you still need good talent on the field which is why his Falcon resume is less than impressive. Even CB Hall has been considered a bum of late. Depending on how the bungholes draft goes, could be a continuation in Queer city.

Since they're really serious about improving their D, they better pick up 11 defensive free agents too. lmao

I dont think they really improved the team. Now if they were able to get a new parol officer, well, then I would be worried.

I don't think so either. The guy has proven to run away from challenges, pressure, adversity, even opportunity. Which has been the Bengals MO for years and years. Not exactly changing the culture with this hire.

Gotta love the Bungles way of thinking....lets hire a DC that is worse than the one we fired...yeah, that will get our D into shape.
