Tony Dungy to step down and Jim Caldwell to take over. As this is an internal hire, the Rooney rule does not apply.

Don't we have rules about PFT as a source?

Don't we have rules about PFT as a source?

Yes - they fall under paragraph 3 of subsection "Point & Laugh".

League sources huh? I read this story on the AP wire two days ago. Much like the Cowher saga, Dungy's entire family moved to Tampa before the end of the season.

Dungy wants to be in Florida to watch his son's high school games.

Tony Dungy is everything that is right about the NFL. Wish him nothing but the best, if this is true.

ESPN is reporting that Dungy is dening the PFT report as being true, that he is just beginging the process to determine if he comes back.

I like him and wish him well...but something tells me if Dungy was our coach, and Manning was our QB, and all he could win was one title...this place wouldn't be too upset to see him go. Hell, Cowher took a rookie QB and Kordell to the AFC Champ game....

PFT makes a living out of posting 100 rumors and hoping like hell one comes true so they can say, see I told ya so. Assclowns.

I'm going to submit an article that NFL sources toldme Faneca will play in AZ next year.

I'd really be quite surprised if Dungy returns. Truly a great guy.

Thought I heard today on the Jim Rome show Florio will be a guest tomorrow. I know that show isn't exactly a bastille of credibility, but I hate to see this clown get any kind of platform/toe-hold whatsoever. Would be funny if Rome got inundated with emails tomorrow from the late Terry Bradshaw.

I don't think he will retire so don't get your hopes up. He is a great coach and still has a few years yet.

His son has enrolled in high school here in Tampa, to expand on what Dave said.Dungy's also got a desire to open a ministry for inmates.Seems to me he'd be able to do that in Baltimore or Cincinnati and have a grater following. To each their own, I guess.

Actually, it's too late. He's fooled everyone...at least all the rest of the idiots in the mainstream media.

I heard someone on the radio tonight apologizing for if Florio got the whole thing wrong.

Dungy has been the kind of guy he is from the day he first came to the Steelers. Never have I seen him get angry or testy with anyone and whatever he does, he'll always be admired.

No matter what Dungy decides I wish him well. He is one of the few class acts in the NFL.

Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy says he still hasn't decided whether to return next season, despite reports to the contrary, but he will tell the team by Monday.

"Believe it or not, I'm going to go through the process just like I said I would," Dungy told ESPN's Chris Mortensen on Wednesday. "[Owner] Jim Irsay and I, along with [team president] Bill Polian, have have been talking about this for the last couple of days in Indianapolis. Jim wants me to open the new stadium. I'm not opposed to it, my wife is not opposed to it. I'm going to go through this process to make sure that I should do it.

Dungy

"My wife and I will continue to discuss it and pray about it," he said. "We should have some type of decision by Saturday or Sunday. The first person outside my family that will know about it is Jim Irsay on Monday morning, and nobody else will know about it before Jim."

Dungy told Mortensen that a report on Profootballtalk.com saying he has decided to step down and be succeeded by assistant Jim Caldwell is not accurate.

Dungy added: "It's amazing that people don't want to believe what I said all along, that I would take this week to make my decision."

So there you go. PFT, as usual, makes assumptions and claims that those assumptions are facts coming from "sources". I believe that Coach writes for them now, but that is just an assumption.

NFL Network is reporting that an announcment is imminent. Appears to be more than just a rumour, although since everyone knew a while ago that his family moved to Tampa, it was more than just a rumor all along.

John Steigerwald (Pittsburgh sports writer) has called PFT one of the best websites for insider news on the NFL, and actually cited the idea that they put out so many rumors that eventually one of them hits as a the reason why it's such a great site.

Dungy is a class act. His faith is the guidepost for his decisions, and he isn't afraid to talk about it either. I was genuinely moved by his book.

If he wants to be around to see Eric's games and to see Eric graduate, more power to him. I know he feels guilt at what happened to James.....and I don't fault him one bit for putting his family first.

Dungy became one of my favorite players after the game where he played QB when called upon to do so. He threw a TD pass and I think even intercepted one earlier in that game. It really was cool.

He's definately a class individual. I certainly wish him well in his retirement.

Cowher's resume is just as distinguished as Dungy's.

Anyway, the OC for the Colts apparently withdrew his name from consideration for other HC positions, which most likely means he knows Dungy is gone.

Cowhers resume is better. He has taken two teams to the super bowl.

And then finish his career as an NFL coach replacing Arians as OC of the Steelers?
Oh what the hell as long as there are rumors!;)

Florio and PFT have a lot of sources. You guys like to knock them, but they've come a long way.

Sporting News just hired Florio to do articles.

Let's not forget that guys like Len P and John Clayton make mistakes too.

I'm still waiting to see TJ Duckett in black and gold. lol.
