this guy makes arians look like bill walsh. if tomlin is serious about improving special teams, relieving this turd sandwich of this alleged duties would be a step in the right direction

my jamison bender kept me from actually spending the half second to see the other billion threads on this

I knew we were in for a long day from the opening kickoff.

I'm sure I'm not alone, but I'm starting to dread when we kick off. After every Steeler score, especially the FG, I couldn't help thinking, "Oh, no! Now we have to kick off! Shit! Just kick it out of bounds."

You're certainly not alone. Every time we score, all I can think is, "Now if we can just keep them on their side of the 50 on this kickoff, we might have a chance." If Reed could boot the ball deeper than the 8, we might not have these problems so much. And that stuff about designed kickoff plays and directional kicking? That's bullshit. Every one of Reed's kickoffs gets fielded between the hash marks at somewhere between the 4 and 10 yard lines. I have yet to see him pin a returner into a corner or along the sidelines on kicking alone. I think Skippy only has one mode: try to kick it between the goal post uprights, no matter what the situation is.

It is a bad sign when you score and within one kickoff the other team is automatically in FG range without ever putting their offense on the field.

Pretty sure he went in to hiding with the witness protection program.
How is this man still employed?

Some of us questioned Tomlin as this was one of his 1st hires. How the fuck can you hire a clown from the Rams who was let go. I believe the Rams had one of the worst special teams units the year before Ligashesky was let go. This is the area that Tomlin wanted to improve. God help us if he tries to improve other areas of the team.

When he was hired, I looked into the ST of his previous team... not flattering at all. To keep him around this long is incompetence.

You would think that an outstanding organization like the Steelers would be able to get some of the top coaches to come here to coach. It seems just the opposite in the ST and OC. C'mon Rooney and Tomlin, get the best. We've got the talent in place, let's get the coaches....

While the returns are certainly troubling I dont know if coaching is to blame. In the Cincy game players somehow allowed the guy to escape when he was pinned near the sideline. In the KC game it seemed like we had plenty of players around the ball they just didnt tackle the ball carrier. You can blame the coaches for maybe not picking the proper players, but to me it seems for the most part players are not totally out of position. I also cant blame special teams for losing the KC game. We held them to 49 yrds in the first half and were winning 17-7. That used to be an automatic win. The offense simply did not protect the ball and the D allowed some big plays to a mediocre at best offense. While the returns definitely need to be fixed, I think people are using them as a scapegoat for losing. Neither the D or O have their late game magic of last year.

AT this point, a kickoff specialist that could nail it through the endzone would be a godsend. Start em all at the 20 and be done with it...
