I got this off of MySpace, from SteelCityMafia.

----------------------

Attention STEELCITY MAFIA FAMIGLIA and STEELERS NATION:

It's time to show someone the power of "STEELERS NATION." Here in Jacksonville, local sports radio host on the station 1010 XL, Mike Dempsey decided today to try to rub the Jaguars victory in our face by dissing our great fan base. He said that our worldwide fan base in a word is a "MYTH." They can say what they want about the Steelers inconsistant level of play, but this is a personal stab at YOU, the "non-existant" Steelers fan around the world.

Let's prove to him that Steelers Nation is BIG, STRONG, and most importantly, VOCAL!!!

You can email Mike to prove him wrong at:

pressbox@1010xl.com

Make sure you put in the subject line "ATTENTION MIKE DEMPSEY"

Don't be afraid to tell him "Mr. Steeler" and the "SteelCity Mafia" sent you, remeber to keep it classy, after all, we are not Brownie fans, wink wink). Here is what I told Mike in response to his opinion:

Mike:

I was liking you for a while there. I even enjoyed our bet last season. However, in listening to you this afternoon and calling the Steelers fan base, Steelers Nation, a "myth," you have now incurred my wrath. I so wanted to call in to the show, but I knew doing that would only result in your either cutting me off, or simply talking over me. There is no winning that argument on the air.

With that said, it's a joke for you to even try to compare the Jaguars fan base to ours. You base most of this on the fact that on tv you heard some boos and several thousand fans departing the game before it was over? I had a friend at the game and she told me she left only because it was so damn cold. It's one thing that the players get to run around in that climate and stay warm or have warmers behind their bench, but let me give Mr. Dempsey a free ticket to yesterday's game and watch him sit still in 30 degree weather along with rain and snow for three hours.

Ok, so what about the Jaguars? How many blackouts in the last five years of a home game? I don't care how big that stadium is. Expand Heinz Field to 100,000 and it fills up every game. I can't tell you how many Jaguar games I've watched in the last four years where the Jags fans left early when their team was down by a lot. IN DROVES. Fair weather fans we are? What a laugh. Explain to me then if these Jaguars are so diehard why only two found themselves brave enough to show up at the pep rally I had last year the day before the Steelers and Jaguars played while 1,000 Steelers fans came out. Or three years ago when there was 40,000 Steelers fans at Altell stadium. Wayne Weaver was so embarrassed that last year he made it a point to do his best to keep us out of the stadium, including producing a flier encouraging his season ticket holders not to sell their tickets to us (I still have that flier).

Whenever the topic of Steelers Nation and it being the best fan base comes up and someone tries to argue otherwise, I call that jealousy. Just to go my web site, Steelers Fans United (S.F.U.) - http://snu.steelershotline.com and click on "participating clubs" and you will see how many ORGANIZED Steelers fan clubs there are worldwide. While on that subject, how many Jaguars fan clubs are there worldwide? Wait...how many are there in JACKSONVILLE? Is that a zero Mike? Do you know how many "Steelers bars" there are here in Jax? Associated with my club alone JAXB.A.G. (Jacksonville Black and Gold) we have our headquarters at Chicago Pizza and Sports Grille and then five affiliate bars. All are known as "STEELERS BARS."

Fair weather fans? At our headquarters, all season long there may have been 3-5 Jaguars fans coming out every Sunday. They probably have not shown up because so many games are blacked out. All the sudden yesterday 20-25 showed up. Why? Because they came out knowing Chicago's is a Steelers bar and simply came to start trouble which they accomplished. I take nothing away from the Jaguars team. They outplayed us and by far were the better team yesterday and perhaps this season. It's too bad they can't find real fans. In fact, we have a new nickname for the Jaguars:

"WINN DIXIE JAGUARS"

That's because Winn Dixie consistently has to bail them out of blackouts by buying up the tickets that the team can't sell.

Mike...I'll close with this...you opened up a can of worms dude. You will be feeling the power of Steelers Nation in the next few days. I am going to forward this email and what you said about Steelers Nation to the thousands of contacts I have. Expect lots and lots of emails in your mailbox in the next 72 hours. Then you'll understand why we are in fact the greatest fan base in ANY sport.

Have a nice day!

Here we go:
-----------
Nice to hear you running your mouth about Steeler Fans worldwide being a myth.

Your team wishes it could have half of the fanbase that we do. How fun was it watching your team on TV three years ago. Oh that's right, you couldn't because it was blacked out. You couldn't sell out your games without your owner buying his own tickets.

How many Super Bowls does that team have. That would be the same as the Browns. None.

How about your stadium always getting taken over by Steelers fans every home game when you play us. Your fan base is so terrible the NFL has talked about moving it.

Until you have a fan base that is 1/10th of the Steelers, SHUT UP!

Merry Christmas
Randy

Steeler fans took a big hit during the J'ville game.

I'm not surprised to hear the negative comments.

They've been sold out every game since 1972 but it doesn't mean everyone shows up.

Well just got done spilling my guts here is what I wrote:

Dear Mike,

"Mr. Steeler" and the "SteelCity Mafia" sent me a email after you aparently made a statement saying that the Steeler fanbase worldwide is a "MYTH"! Now come on I understand your Jags just beat us and kudos to you for that and if you want to rub that in our face that is fine but don't go attacking our fanbase. The one thing anyone can say about the Steelers is they have many fans from all over and travel well, as a matter of fact on the "mike and mike in the morning" show on ESPN just recently the steelers were ranked as the #1 out of market draw, not bad for a MYTH! Hey if it makes you feel better attacking us fans then so be it but buddy hope to hell you beat us in the playoff's cause I have a feeling if you don't you just might hear from us so called MYTH!

Happy Holidays

Oh yeah Mike feel free to stop by our board we would love to hear what you have to say.

Selling out and having everyone actually go are two different things. Lots of LA sports sell out. Yet the stadiums/arenas always seem to be 15% - 20% empty.

I took the civil approach don't know why, here is the email I sent
Mr.Dempsey,
I hear through the Steeler Nation grapevine that you believe the enormity of our fan base is a myth. It's hard to believe in this day in age that you don't have a television. Watch any away game we are involved in and you will see the loyalty of Steeler fans in every city we play in. Do you think all those Steeler fans in those stands live in those cities,of course not. Steelers fans will travel anywhere to see there team play, winning season our not. If you have any doubt as to what I say tune in Thursday night to the NFL network and look in the stands in St.Louis and see if its not 50/50 ratio our more. If you indeed do not have a television please take a trip down to Chicago Pizza and Sports Grille in Jacksonville,Fla and have a look. Oh and by the way I live in Illinois!!!!!!!!!
This email was prompted by a heads up from "Mr. Steeler" and the "SteelCity Mafia"..
Your team won Sunday be proud of that, there was no need to try and take something away from the storied history of the Steelers and the fan base that loves them.
Good luck to you and the Jags

Steelers fan in Illinois

Hi Mike,
Loyal Steeler fan here...south of you in Central Florida. Yep, I'm a transplant from PA. We're everywhere dude.

You wish is wasn't like this, I understand. But know this; We don't travel well....we're already here....and we ain't leaving. We control the alltell when we play there....this you know. Ask your belittled fanbase...oh yea, I forgot, you don't have a fanbase. Your team isn't even on TV, lol.
Carry On with your weak arguments...we love it!
Merry Christmas

Take this first hand from someone who has lived in Jacksonville for more years than I care to say. The fan base is very weak and as fair weathered as it gets. If they didn't cover up 10,000 seats every single home game would be blacked out and that's with a winning season. I was part of those 30-40 thousand Steeler fans to take over that stadium a few years ago. The only reason we didn't get as many last year was the Jags ran a PR campaign for months before the season begging the fans to take their stadium back....pure comedy gold! The only football they really give a shit about is the Gators,Seminoles,Bulldogs and the Hurricanes.

I'd bet they'd love to be in the same division as the Steelers again. We get the good ole boys riled up to be playing that dadgum yankee team. It did carry over in filling up the stadium for later games since we always took over their stadium and embarrassed the hell out of them.

They're not even a pimple on the ass of the nation wide Steeler fan base.

Forget writing emails to this dude. I say we get all of the Steelers fans together World Wide to contribute $1.00 each. Then take the millions of dollars sent in and buy the radio station (1010 XL) where this man works at and fire him. Then we can tell him that the Steeler Nation has spoken.

Is this a joke? Please tell me you did not insinuate that the Jacksonville Jaguars fan base is much stronger than the Pittsburgh Steelers. If that is in fact what you said, shame on you for not knowing much about the NFL in Pittsburgh. Congratulations on the Jags victory last weekend, but I feel that it will be a different outcome if they meet again.

The last I heard, last week, he had received over 800 emails! His partner Frank Frangie said on the air:

Mike,

I heard you stated "the Steeler Nation" is a myth.

I will not rant or rave, I will throw you a few facts.

1. Every Steeler 'away' game I have been to has had at least 15-20 thousand Steeler fans in attendance. One (the Steelers vs Seahawks in Seattle) had close to 30,000 Steeler fans in attendance.

2. While serving in the Army for 21+ years I was part of Steeler Fan Clubs at every duty station from Germany, South Korea, Iraq, Georgia, Kentucky and Washington!
http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/05015/442785.stm

3. The Northwest Steeler Nation has been packing them in 250+ in one bar in Tacoma. And we continue to grow.

4. Got Rings?????

Best of Luck,
