Sorry Lord Brady and the Pats, there's a new kid in town.
Dirty Sanchez, as a rookie, has his team poised to make the superbowl.
The Jets currently have the #1 rushing attack and #1 Defense.
With this combination built on the backs of All-Pro caliber Linemen: Woody, DeBrickashaw, Mandgold, and Faneca, this team is built to compete for years to come. The core is young, and they are a few big play receivers/ running backs away from a dynasty.
I felt this team was built to win the SB next year or the year after. Looks like they are making a run a year early.
Get used to seeing them in the playoffs for years to come. They are the new team to beat in the AFC East.

The pats* still won the division this year. Im not sold on the jets as a long term contender. I don't think Sanchez is that great. He, like Ben his first year, is being buoyed by a great defense, OL and running game. We will see.

Also when was the last time the Jets made the playoffs in back to back
seasons? Maybe when Mark Gastineau and Joe Klecko played.
Also have a feeling Rex Ryan will become a replica of his father.
A fat mouthed figure who writes a check his behind can't cash.

But I don't think they get where they are if in the last two games of the season their opponents weren't resting key starters, well possibly the Bungles since they did beat them in the playoffs.
Of course you've gotta love that Marsha's rival team is moving on!

I agree, but Stryker's point is still valid. The Jets made this much noise and are still not the complete package. Imagine what they will be like with a few more impact players and Sanchez growing into the QB position.

The Jets are drawing attention to themselves and should not be considered a sleeper next year. Their schedule changepois, for one they have to play the AFC North next year. Pats, Dolphins and Bills will all have new DCs next year. I am expecting Dirty Sanchez to go through a severe case of Sophmore Slump.

One thing I learned in my many trips past Buffalo over the last 10 years and listening to sports talk radio is that NO ONE hates the Pats* more than Bills Fan hates the Pats*.

A long, long time ago, on a MB far, far away I was told that the Jets FO were a bunch of idiots for signing all those FA because they were mortgaging their future.
I'm just not sold on the Jets. I believe it's more of a fluke and they will be back to doing their normal sucking next year.
Well, Faneca is getting a bit long in the tooth. While I don't deny he's a solid player he can't be considered a long-term strength at guard. Sanchez has been fairly mediocre. His quarterbacking won't frighten anyone. I also heard from a friend that Sanchez currently holds the Jets QB record for post season wins... (at two). At this point anything resembling a pulse from the Jets is cause for celebration.
Fact is, if the Colts don't lay down in week 15, there are no J.E.T.S. in the playoffs. Now, admittedly for that reason I'd like to see the Jets utterly destroy the Colts from a Karmic perspective. But we'll see.
My heart says Saints - Jets SB with a Saints win... My head says Vikings-Colts SB with a Colts win.

If Sanchez goes through a sophomore slump, then it's doubtful the Jets to make the playoffs next year. He had 12 TDs and 20 INTs for a QB rating of 63.0 - not exactly pro bowl numbers. I know he's just a rookie, but as a rookie Big Ben also had a stout defense and top rushing attack and he ended up with a 98.1 QB rating. I'm just not sold on Sanchez just yet.

Sanchez better improve considerably then, b/c once teams get a full season of tape on him; the J-E-T-S won't be able to just Run-Run-Run-Run-Pass-Run on everyone next season.

even without Jenkins they have a solid D, but even tough I dislike the Colts DL style I dont see Jones having a big game, Manning will have a good game nothing spectactular but enough to move on
Colts 24
Jets 16

No question the Jets have a great running game and defense, but sorry Mark Sanchez is being carried by them this year. We all saw what happened when he had to try and win games for them this season. I smell a big sophomore slump next season for Sanchez. Let's not forget he had only 12 TDs and 20 interceptions during the regular season.
Although I am rooting for the Jets to destroy the Colts, I don't see it happening.
At any rate, what they HAVE accomplished this year is to give the *Pats the second place schedule once more, improving their chances.

No doubt the Jets have a decent future, but I think there are other teams with brighter futures like the Packers or Falcons. Faneca is 33 and Woody is 32, D'brick is solid but not great. "Sanchize" has been very average. Again, I'm not saying that they aren't gonna be good, but I don't really see them as a super bowl team in the near future

If Sanchez develops the Jets will be a solid team for a number of years, mainly because of Ryan. He has changed the mindset of that team to be tough and physical and it shows in their running game and defense.

The Pats won the division, not the Jets. The Pats get the first place schedule, Indy and SD. The Jets get Denver and Houston.

I will wait and see if the Jets actually live up to their HYPE, mangina got them to the playoffs his 1st yr, and they were playing similar ball to the way they are playing now, I think the D is better now then back then, all of the talk was the jets were going to be the team everyone would have to worry about, but what happened, teams stuffed their run game the following yr, and they couldn't play up to the level of the yr before, I really think this is gonna happen again, it is so easy to take a below average team and raise them up, the hard part is keeping them consistent and not losing focus, and when the jets can't back up ryans mouth, all of the tough guy bravado will look stupid, ryan better hope he can keep this team at this level next yr, because teams will stuff their run game, and then the f'in sanchise will actually have to throw the ball to win games, and he isn't that kind of qb, just my opinion!!!!

For them, it's a great story THIS YEAR, but I don't think it's sustainable in that franchise. Their defense and OL have some age, and their QB is BELOW average. I also think that eventually, Ryan's mouth will get them into trouble and someone is going to get pissed off and just run up the score on them much like Wyche did to Glanville, and I just pray to god that we're the ones that do it. Faneca can piss on an electric fence as far as I'm concerned about him. Ungrateful bastard, I don't mind him leaving or crapping on LZ like he deserved, but just keep your GD mouth shut about the org.

A QB that gets his team to the conference finals in his rookie year is hardly BELOW average.

Having Brick and Mangold play on both sides of Faneca, will extend his career and he will continue to have high productivity.
I am expecting Dirty Sanchez to go through a severe case of Sophmore Slump.
I hate that term: Sophmore Slump. To use it before a QBs second season is short sighted. To use it after a QB's 2nd season makes the term slightly more credible, but the hindsight 20/20 thing takes the impact out of the phrase for me.
I guess Big Ben had a Junior Slump??
They aren't in college anymore so dump the terminology.

Doesn't mean I am; he wasn't stating they 'would' be frontrunners, just that they have the potential to do something. They can squander it like us. Sheesh, off all the things to rage about :/

Considering the environment he played in today Sanchez was pretty impressive out there. They have a damn good line, running game and defense. If he gets a couple more playmakers they are going to be tough. Sanchez may not be a Pro Bowl quarterback, but he can do enough to keep the defenses honest from what I saw today. The fact that he plays for a defensive minded coach can only help in his ability to learn how to read defenses. Time will tell.

Agreed; Sanchez played well under pressure. He got rid of the ball instead of taking unnecessary sacks. If they add a couple of more playmakers, they could be good for awhile; look out Patriots - no more cake walk in the division.

They made it to the AFC Championship Game.
They have the #1 defense.
They have the #1 running game.
They beat 2 division winners (CIN, SD) and one of the top 5 teams in the NFL this year (SD)
They held there own against the Colts, #1 team, for a half, they lead by 11 points, they lead at half-time.
They have a smart, young, fearless QB.
They have a no-nonsense head coach.
They deserve to be proud and hopeful for their team.

Jets whoopin the Bengals 2 weeks in a row and beating SD on the road is hardly winning by luck.
There's no problem with hating on their fans, but they are a strong, young team.

As somebody said earlier; the rats were hailed as the new AFC dominant team to beat. They were going to win the division this year ETC.... It doesn't always work that way. Just look at the Steelers. Who would have thought we would lose to the raiders, clowns, and bungles (twice)? Did anybody really believe we wouldn't make the playoffs this year?
BTW their own coach declared them dead after a 5 games or so losing streak. They put the clamps on Sanchez to keep him from turning it over and put it on their running game and defense. I'm not ready to anoint them anything yet. Let the league get some tape on Sanchez like they did Flacco and a ton of other 2nd year QBs and we will see what happens.

I don't think Ryan will handle Sanchez the way Harbaugh handled Flacco. Baltimore though they would be a passing team and threw the ball way too much this year when they really could have won more using their ground game.

I got the impression from the thread title that the poster was saying the Jets were going to be a long term contender in the AFC. I'm not sure I buy that. Again that covers several teams that fluctuates yearly. Many said the same thing about the Rats last year and the bungles a few years ago. I remember how great the broncos were going to be with Cutler ETC.... How did those work out?
I think they are a good team but I don't think their offense is that great at all. They protect Sanchez and that won't last long in this league. You can't hide your QB for long.

I don't think it has anything to do with Ryan or Harbaugh. You can't just run in this league. You have got to get the 8th or sometimes 9th man out of the box. This league is a point scoring league. You have to be able to score with the Saints and Colts of the world.

That may be what he was saying, but it certainly isn't what I was talking about. It's the NFL, if you lose the wrong guy your season can be over. If I were a Jets fan I would be pretty excited considering how bad it's been recently. Being the coach he is I don't see Ryan going four wide and exposing Sanchez a lot any time soon. Like someone said, and it's 100% correct, time will tell.
