Who do you think is the better passing team? New Orleans or Pittsburgh or New England

Clearly it's New Orleans and New England . Even with Drew Brees and there weapons, they have passed it 291 times and run it 288 times. You could argue that the Steelers have better running backs and they have run it almost 60 times less.

The Steelers have run it only 232 times this year which ranks 23 in the NFL which is an average of 25.8 carries per game. They have thrown it 330 times ( 303 PA + 27 Sacks) = 330 - 37 times per game - NFL official stat is 33.7 (10th).

The Pass Run Ratio:
Pass: 330/562 - 59
Run: 232/562 - 41

Earlier in the year Tomlin talked about being like the Pats offense, well interestingly enough the Pats Pass to Run ratio is 60 to 40.

If I had my druthers, I would rather sling it to Welker and Moss , and New Orleans weapons, then Ward and Holmes. Also, Brady isn't going to take the sacks that Ben does 27 sacks to 12 or throw the Picks 8 to 6 and have more TDs 19 to 14.

Bottom line - The Steelers aren't as well situated to Pass as you might think. Ben takes to many hits and holds the ball to long creating sacks, and turns it over too much to be a 60/40 pass to Run team

They need to balance it out. I like 53 to 47 Pass to run.

After the way we passed on Sunday, we don't even deserve to mentioned as consideration as the top team.

Ward has two SB rings, Holmes has one and they have a SB MVP each. Both contributed a great deal to those SB runs and victories. I will take both over anything that NO or * has.

Incorrect... How do you not know that we drafted Holmes after XL and the departure of Antwaan Randle El?

As for the topic at hand, yes, I really believe that we need to be running it more. Against the Vikings Mendenhall had only 10 carries and got 69 yards. I realize that after the breakdown someone did on the old board that there weren't many places where we should have run and didn't, but I still want to see it more. Mendenhall has proved himself, in my opinion, and we need to let him loose. Hopefully we will see that this weekend.

how do you not read that he says Holmes only has one SB ring?...

Originally, it did say two each but I edited it. He may have read it before editing and quoted it afterward. Or he may be misunderstaning the second sentence.

I saw the original one. Although Sluzilla made me think I was crazy and second guess myself, lol.

I would take Moss and Welker over Ward and Holmes all day.

Moss makes more plays and requires double coverage/bracketing. Welker and Ward are almost equal but Welker never drops a pass.

NO just has volume. They have enough guys to rotate in/out so they always have fresh legs.

I am surprised you've left off AZ: Fitzgerald, Boldin, Breaston. That is some firepower right there.

The Steelers don't even come to mind thinking of the best passing team.

I think they're a lot better than they looked last week, but definitely not in the top 2-3 teams.

This offense isn't close to top 5 IMHO. They usually can get it done when they are forced too but overall they struggle to do anything.

The point of this thread is how one sided our offense is , we are closer to a pass run ratio like the Pats than a ratio like the supposedly pass happy Saints. We are not a great passing team and are a mediocre offense thanks to Arians love for all things passing, we need to run to keep defenses off balance.

I understand the point of the thread. I was commenting that we pass a lot but aren't that good at.

I disagree here.

The Steelers are far from an elite passing offense, but they have actually been pretty solid this year in the passing game.

If you look at net yards per attempt, which takes sack yardage into account, the Steelers rank 8th in the league. By comparison, they ranked 20th in that category last season.

They played horrible against the Bengals, but overall, the passing game has made a lot of improvement from last season.

I'll take Ward over Welker any day. I'd have to put Indy's passing game ahead of NE's and NO's.

I would put Indy's QB ahead of what they have on those 2 teams. I think that's the difference.

Not sure what that proves other than the fact that we throw the ball far and often... it says nothing to the effectiveness of the passing attempt. Yards Per Attempt??? Where did you find that stat anyway?

You would think with the much improved play of the OL that our offense would be a lot better.
