Why not just go to the Tribune's website and look it up?

Since it doesn't work at their site... I don't see how anyone here can help.

I'm thinking it was pulled. I can't even get cached text version. BTW, why aren't the stories put on the newsroom board...just links?

I was hoping someone might have received it through email or something. People do that stuff...just hoping. Seems like it might be a interesting read.

I think you're right. (That happened to me a couple of times in my newspaper days. Management would get nervous about this or that.)

I sent an email to Prisuta to see what happened.

Via one of the links, the story title is showing, along with Prisuta's byline. And the other link doesn't bring up anything...

Steelers' Arians rethinks calls against Patriots
By Mike Prisuta
TRIBUNE-REVIEW
Wednesday, December 19, 2007

If he had it to do again, Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians would do it differently in New England.

Faced with third-and-goal at the Patriots' 1 at the outset of the fourth quarter Dec. 9, Arians called for a run with an option to check into a fade pass for wide receiver Santonio Holmes if necessary. The Steelers checked out of their initial play upon observing the Patriots' alignment at the line of scrimmage, and the subsequent pass to Holmes fell incomplete.

On fourth-and-goal from the 1, the Steelers came out in an empty-backfield set and tried a sweep to wide receiver Hines Ward, who was in motion prior to the snap. Ward was stopped for no gain.

"A couple of unusual calls," Arians said Wednesday.
A touchdown would have pulled the Steelers only to within 31-20 in a game they lost, 34-13.

So it's difficult to perceive the failure to find the end zone in that instance as decisive. But Arians nonetheless regrets his choice of calls.

"I thought we had Hines in on the little reverse we've been working on for 10 weeks," Arians said. "That's the first time it's ever been stopped. It would have worked. We got a little surprised on the way they adjusted and got knocked back. We should have knocked them back and walked in (to the end zone)."

The Patriots moved 89 yards for a field goal on their subsequent possession and assumed a 21-point lead with 7:04 remaining.

"Going back in retrospect, we'd have taken our goal-line offense and gone at it," Arians said. "We got it down there with a shovel pass. I wish we'd have gone back into a power mode at that time, a goal-line package.

"I liked those plays for what they did on the goal line. (The Patriots) had a little unusual goal-line defense. We thought we could get the match-up we wanted. We did, but it was more for from the 3-yard line than the 1-yard line. That's a call that's from the 3."

Arians suspected his second-guessing of himself, such as it was, was a first in his tenure as the Steelers' offensive coordinator.

"Probably," he said. "It's not one I've thought many times about."

Hines would got in if Colon hadn't had gotten in his way, he is just not big enough to play OT in a non zone blocking scheme

I thought the first drive after halftime was poorly called. Willie gashes them for a big gain and Arians gets cute and runs that god awful long developing play-action and Ben gets sacked. Why not just keep running the ball til they stop it. Then they'll respect that play action a little more. Did the same thing against the Jags. He tries to be too cute to me. You can't outsmart everyone, sometime you have to knock them on their butts!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What an embarrassment.

That's the first time he's second guessed himself? Scary. He's not learning.

Put a fork in'm, we're done.

"Arians suspected his second-guessing of himself ... was a first in his tenure as the Steelers' offensive coordinator." If this guy hasn't been questioning his play calling decisions all season long, he's an idiot. I hope this is the nail in his career coffin for Tomlin.

I honestly don't know if I'll bother watching next year if this complete god damned meathead isn't fired after this season.

Didn't he call that little Hines play twice at the goalline...I mean, hell yeah, if it doesn't work the first time.....gads.

I'm happy Ben did so well with the pass-blocking as bad as it is, but another couple seasons with hits like this and Ben will be retiring at 30.

I want to get back to the power running game that I love. It breaks my heart to see other teams biting our style to gut us. Of course, we need Oline reinforcements.....and fast.

When you couple his second guessing for the Pats game, with his decision to NOT attack Denver's weak defense against the run... I'd have to agree with you.

Once again, many eyebrows were raised here when Tomlin hired him, including mine. Some people were excited with his blather that we would open things up...2 TE sets with 4 wr's to start a posession and about 16000 passing yards for Ben. HHHMMMMPPPHH!

Chan Gailey, please come home.

What scares the crap out of me is I'll bet he's second guessing his calls for tonights games. If you see nothing but Ben dropping back three yards and assuming the fetal position three times followed by a punt on all our possessions you know what happened.

Guess he second guessed himself the whole time we were kicking his ass when he was with Cleveland too, huh?

We got a little surprised on the way they adjusted and got knocked back.

Surprised? he was surprised that the right side of our line got knocked back? Holy Christ! What O-line has he been watching this year?

As freaking stupid as that play was, at least run it to the left behind Faneca!

He doesn't believe in Steeler football

From today's PG

Even the Steelers' offensive game plan will take into account the Rams' high-scoring potential on offense.

"Oh, yeah, there's no doubt," Steelers coordinator Bruce Arians said. "When you play an explosive offensive football team, you play to score more points. You might take a few more chances here or there rather than [playing] a team you think your defense might really shut down."

Duh,You play to keep the ball away from their offense.
I guess I'll take the overs tonight.

Mike Mularkey.

3rd & 1 - he calls a double reverse for no gain.
4th & 1 - he calls the same exact play with the same exact result.

Tomlin is the head coach. He hires the coordinators and ultimately is responsible for the play-calling. If Cowher was still here a lot of you would be bitching up a storm about his offense.

That is all.

True enough, but this is Tomlin's first year and I think that most people are cutting him a bit of slack. Expect that to mainly disappear if we get beat by the Rams. We lose four straight to end the year and the wheels will come off the rest of the way.

Inconceivable? I'm not too sure anymore. Seems as though we're playing way too hard lately. Nothing looks easy for these guys, and it's a cryin' shame. Now with Aaron S out the whole right side of the defense is going to be twitchy.

I'll feel a lot better if we glide to a victory tonight (not to 'dis the Rams, they're actually not a bad team they're just going thru some shit too) and we catch a few days extra rest before we play the Ratbirds. We lose tonight and I'm not sure if we'll get the chance to get cheated against in the AFCCG.

Might be time to start thinking about getting Ben a new OC in 2008. Maybe Arians can save his job by finishing strong beginning tonight.

Is this another "Arians Sucks" thread??
Hope so.
Hopefully the Defense will find their cujones in the Rams and Rats game and we get to the Post.
If we get to a game with Indy, Bolts or Patties? That should be the end of Arians as OC for the Steelers. Maybe they could use him as a towel boy.
