Chiefs | Team to select fifth
Fri, 22 Feb 2008 07:29:19 -0800

The Sporting News reports after a complicated coin-flip process Friday, Feb. 22, at the NFL Scouting Combine, it was determined that the Kansas City Chiefs have the fifth overall selection in the 2008 NFL Draft. The Atlanta Falcons won the initial toss against the Oakland Raiders; had they lost, there would have been a second toss between the Falcons and Chiefs to determine who would pick fourth. All three teams finished with the same strength of schedule. However, the Raiders carried a tiebreaker against the Chiefs because they finished behind them with a worse record in games versus common opponents.

The Al Davis Karma lives on. Glad I'm not a Faider fan. They just suck at everything, even coin flips.

If the falcons really do want Matt Ryan, as it's being rumored, then the Falcons actually lost this coin toss because Ryan would likely still be available at #5.

Actually, there is scuttle that the Falcons were considering trading UP to secure Matt Ryan with the #1 pick overall.

Davis is like Castro, in power much longer than he needs to be.

the dolphins should jump at that trade. At pick 3 they can still get Jake Long. Chirs Long, or Glenn Dorsey. Any one is a score. Parcels always talks about building the lines first. You can get a franchise LT (although i'm still not 100% sold Jake Long will be great), you can get a big inside presence at DT in Dorsey, or you can get a versatile, high motor pas rusher in Chris Long. If the Phins keep the 3-4, Chris Long could play DE, he's also athletic enough to play some OLB (kind of like how the steelers tried to use Keisel, and he can also play DT when you use a 4 man line in nickel situations.

Personally, i think Chris Long is the best player in the draft. Best case, he's Michael Strahan. Worst case, he's Grant Wistrom.

If i was the Rams, i'd take Chris Long and pair him with Carriker. Just imagine the versatility of that DL. You could play them both at DE, then sign a couple fat guys to clog the middle. You could play them both at DT in passing situations, and with all the attention paid inside, you could get pressure with average DEs. You could also play 1 at DE, and 1 at DT and again you could get by with some average guys at the other line positions. Leonard Little is slowing down, the Rams need pass rush.

I caught part of the evening sportstalk show today and they were suggesting... trade D'Aresnio Hall (who is looking for a Nate Clemens type of contract) to the Giants for their 31st pick, save the money and sign Alan Fancea, draft Dorsey from LSU with the 3rd pick, and then grab a O-line player with the 31st pick, then grab a QB with their 2nd rd pick from Houston (via the Matt Shaub trade).

Is there a chance they trade both their 2nd rounders for our 1st(23)?

QB Ryan says Falcons 'a great organization'

By D. ORLANDO LEDBETTER
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution

Published on: 02/22/08

By winning the coin flip, the Falcons will likely have a shot at the top quarterback in the draft, Boston College's Matt Ryan.

"I would love to go to Atlanta," Ryan said on Friday. "It's a great city, a great organization. I'd have a ton of fun if I went to Atlanta."

Ryan has been training with Athlete's Peformance in Tempe, Ariz. Members of the Pro Football Writers Association will be allowed into the workouts on Sunday and I will get to see Ryan's workout and give some analysis on Sunday.

Most have Miami picking Virginia defensive lineman Chris Long at one and St. Louis taking LSU defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey.

That would leave Ryan and Arkansas running back Darren McFadden, Michigan tackle Jake Long and USC defensive end Sedrick Ellis still available for the Falcons.

"A lot of teams are looking for quarterbacks this year and Atlanta may be one of them," Ryan said. "It's a great city. Arthur Blank has done a great job as an owner. He's made a great commitment to the city. With everything that has gone on over the past year he's handled it with class. I have a lot of respect for that organization."

But don't ask Ryan to be some kind of savior of the City in light of Michael Vick's federal dogfighting guilty plea.

"I don't think one person will be the cause for change down there, but I certainly think that I can help," Ryan said. "Community has always been something that's important to me and it was important to me while I was at Boston College. It may work out, it may not. We'll have to see."

Kansas City, which picks fifth, may take Ryan if he slips to them. But head coach Herman Edwards voiced concerned over Ryan's 19 interceptions last season.

"As a quarterback, you're going to turn the football over," Ryan said. "When you're aggressive with the football sometimes mistakes are going to happen. I thought we were very aggressive as a team and we ended up turning the ball over. But at the same time we scored a lot of points."

Ryan sure seemed like a nice kid. Just not sure if he's ready to step in and take over. If the Falcons take him, they'd need to bring him along slowly and put together an offensive line that could protect him first.

Should they go with Ryan at No. 3? Or take McFadden? Who would you take?

Huh? Great city is subject to opinion. Great organization is just flat-out untrue!
Never had back to back winning seasons, and has come-and-go fanbase.

He knows he's as good as a Falcon, what else can he say? They need to take him if they think he's anything close to a franchise QB. Joey Harrington and Chris Redman are not gonna cut it for long.

He was told to say that. See he's learning already how to handle the Sports media unlike his soon to be former Falcons teammate D'Arensio Hall.
