Interesting video Taz, thanks.
I would love to see what Ben's numbers in this video are in relation to other QBs.

I think I seen this on sports science around 15 times already. Still kind of cool though.

The conclusion from this study is the following: Steelers LT needs to be only slightly better than a blocking dummy to give Ben more pass protection than he had last year.

no a blocking dummy would work just fine if it's placed correctly. LOL

Yeah, that sounds like about $7M.

Could someone give a quick recap for those of us who cant access the video at work?

Thanks for the video.
And for berger - it's showing how much time Ben needs to get a ball off (1.5s) and then how quickly a DL can get there when they're not blocked (1.3s).
Surprisingly if you knock the DL off by just a foot or so then it's enough to give Ben that time to get the ball out.
Also he apparently throws a 60mph fast ball at 12 revolutions per second.

And yet he was sacked 47 times. Good stuff.

I've never seen that before. Pretty good stuff. It shows just how bad our Oline truly is.

Do I have your permission to print you post and send it to Mehan, Colon, Simmons, and Smith? I will aussume that they will pass it on to the other linemen.

Of course - though this was in shorts with no other rushers and a simple five step drop and fire.
Bearing in mind the way that the line has been communicating is it sensible to leave it up to them to pass on to another lineman? It wasn't working that well during the season... :D

It may have been on Sports Science 15 times but I've missed 'em all. Thanks for the video. Cool stuff. Funny that he said to Castillo that QB's can make grown men cry. Korky used to make us all cry.

Great video, thanks for posting it. It's something you always wondered about the reaction time in detail of Ben versus a blitzer from the outside. Great stuff.

It also shows how long he holds the ball as well. I don't remember many passes where he just dropped back and threw the ball in 1.5 seconds.

Ben does hold the ball a little bit, but usually when he doesn't have any targets.
I'm sure you recall, there were quite a few discussions about this during the season. Ben and the line were not helped out by some of the play-calling.
Very few 3 step drops. Very few quick slants and quick timing precision plays that would have helped out a weak area.
The line blows, WR's sometimes struggled to get open, Ben sometimes holds onto the ball, the wrong plays were called, and it led to 47 sacks.

I agree but I also don't think the "science" is totally realistic. His recievers almost never get open in that time frame. He and most QB's don't usually throw the ball as soon as they hit that 5th step on the drop back. They usually have to wait for a play to develop - an extra second or two.
