with such a deep draft at OL...and with the chances of the top 3 OL being gone at #23...would you consider trading down for an extra 2nd and 3rd?...

IMO...that would be our best move if possible...

I wouldn't mind trading down in the first or into the early second round. We'd still be able to add a quality player on the OL, even two.

Might not be a bad idea as long as the picks aren't too late in the 2nd and 3rd.

what r we gonna do on "O" line sense we have no faneca or starks what can we do with Mahan and that guard komeato or whatever looks like a bumpy ride for willie again huh?

A trade down for a high second and third would be great. Depends on who is available at #23, though. If a top WR like Hardy is there, or if Mendenhall or a stud DL fall I might want to stick.

To answer how do u replace a dominant player like faneca or a decent player like starks in the draft , dont think it can all be done there might need some free agent pickups huh?

The draft is a complete crap shoot. The Steelers could draft a tackle like Johnathon Ogden or a guard like Alan Faneca in this draft...you just don't know. You can't bank on that happening you just have to do the research and hope guys pan out. Faneca is out of our price range and Starks may or may not be going anywhere this year.

IMO ideally ATL would grab Matt Ryan with their first pick and then they'd give us one of their two 2nds and a 3rd for our first so they can grab Stewart. That gives us 35, 55, 67 and 87, in the first 3 rounds.

Only for a high second, like 32 through 38 then I would make the trade to get 4 picks in the first 90. Not bad if you get 3 O linemen and one D lineman.

I think we could use the extra picks but only if Long, Clady, Baker and Williams are all gone. Otah might have really hurt himself with a bad combine but I think I heard he was having a pro day so he might open eyes there and raise his stock. I for one am scared of him and didn't like what I seen in the combine. There are also other OT'S like Cherilus, Benedict, Cousins, Collins, Nicks, and Rinehart that could be there in round 2 & 3 that look pretty good and would be good options if we traded out of the 1st rd.

IMO, it depends on who is available when we are on the clock with our first pick. There's a good chance the best OG in the draft will be there. It'd be tough to pass on Stewart if he's there with his size, he'd be a nice guy to compliment Parker, also has good speed too.
I wouldn't be against a trade though.

I like the idea...but as stated...there are some "possibles" that could still be had at #23...but...hindsight says...if I can get 4 picks instead...what's the hurt?

With the crapshoot that the draft is, I don't understand how you can completely depend on it to address ALL your needs. Looking for one GOOD free agent (or two) and two quality picks for our OL needs should hopefully help address at least some of our problems. The need for a free agent can't be stressed enough, I just don't think you can depend on a rookie OL to help your starting team.

The only way I see a rookie contributing on OL is if we convert to a zone blocking scheme on our OL, and the rookie OL comes from a program that used a zone blocking scheme.

I think trade value for that pick should be determined by who is ther at 23. I like Stewart, Albert, Sweed and would take any of those guys with the pick. But if they are on the board and another team like the Falcons wants that pick to select one of those guys, I would ask for both of their 2nd round picks.
