Know exactly how you feel. Every time a towel is waved, we'll all be thinking of Myron.

Tomorrow's Terrible Towel Day, and I will proudly carry mine on the plane with me to visit friends in NC! They won't even ask because they think I'm nuts anyway. YOI!

As far as announcers who are known for covering one team, no one, I mean no one is as well known throughout the league and the NFL fanbase. No one is or has been as colorful and entertaining as our beloved Myron. He will be missed. I can't wait to wave that towel high again next year. Thanks for the memories Mr. Cope.

Tomorrow's Terrible Towel Day,...

Thanks for the heads-up. I had no idea.

Pittsburgh Mayor Declares Friday 'Terrible Towel Day'
Myron Cope Remembered With Public Event

POSTED: 9:04 am EST February 28, 2008
UPDATED: 4:12 pm EST February 28, 2008

PITTSBURGH -- Ravenstahl, along with disc jockeys from the B-94 radio station, announced plans for a Terrible Towel day on Friday, in honor of the late Pittsburgh Steelers broadcaster, Myron Cope.

Cope, 79, died on Wednesday after a long battle with several ailments, including pneumonia and throat problems.

Everyone is encouraged to meet downtown at the City County Building at noon to wave their Terrible Towels.

"I think it would be the most appropriate for a man like Myron Cope, instead of a moment of silence, that everybody grabs their towel and put it over their head, and they start waving it for a minute," said B-94 disc jockey Bubba. "One minute. The greatest minute for the man who created the Terrible Towel."

"Obviously we respect the privacy of the family in their decision to hold a private funeral but felt in order to pay tribute to Myron's life, to hold a public event to where we showed him we appreciated everything he did for Pittsburgh, and we will do so with one last final salute with the wave of the Terrible Towel," Ravenstahl said.

It looks to me like a whole lot of people forgot that Myron was a writer first and an announcer second. He was truely gifted writer and was Free Lance but working for Sports Illustrated prior to landing the Steelers radio gig. Yes, his radio calls were my real introduction to Steeler Football, but I have truely enjoyed about every article he's written. The voice is un-heard when he uses the pen and it comes through loud and clear.
