Steelers' Harrison fined $5,000 for punch
Thursday, November 19, 2009
By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
Steelers linebacker James Harrison told the Post-Gazette today he was fined $5,000 by the NFL for punching Cincinnati offensive tackle Andrew Whitworth Sunday.
Harrison responded to a push from Whitworth by punching him on the helmet. He was penalized on the first-down play -- a two-yard run by Brian Leonard -- 15 yards, which gave Cincinnati a first down at the Bengals' 49. The completed that series with a 43-yard field goal for an 18-12 lead that stood up as the final score.

I never understood punching a guy in the helmet, your only hurting yourself and your team. That play (along side timmons' encroachment penalty) is the reason the bunlgles scored and most importantly ran a lot of time off the clock

Dumb penalty at a critical time of the game. 15-12 with four minutes and three timeouts left could have made the difference between a W and a L.

Yeah this play was really stupid by harrison. I was yelling at the tv when he did it. Things like this are why i am not a big fan of his.

He was baited into it. A few plays prior you could see they were instigating Harrision, and they finally got him

Some of you guys sound like Seahag fans. If you think his one penalty cost us this game, then we were never going to win anyway.

I don't think any one play cost us the game but I do think Harrison should have taken more heat on this board after the game. Jeff Reed in his attempt to tackle Scott (I really don't care if Reed can tackle! And if you do then our kicking game is really in Jeopardy) on the return got more talk than this and in my opinion was a crucial play at at VERY crucial time in the game. It not only kept their drive going and run time off the clock and they ended up putting more points on the board.

That's what you get with James, the good and the bad. I will put up with that from him as long as he continues to play well.

I wonder if the NFL reports all these fines as income?

It was a bad decision by Harrison and now it's going to cost him money. But at least we get a lot more good than bad from James Harrison. He just lost $5,000 and can take it out on Matt Cassel.

I won't put the loss on Harrisons shoulders but James think before you react.
