There hasn't been anything reported thus far in free agency about Kimo Von Olehoffen. I was curious about whether he's pondering retirement. The only team that Kimo ever really fit with was the Steelers.
I've been hoping that the Steelers would bring him in again for a look. If he still has something left in the tank, I think he'd be a perfect vetran back-up. I hate the fact that Kiershe (sp) and Eason were resigned. Yes, I understand it was purely a depth move. But we already saw last season how much depth they provide. They're lousy even by back-up standards. For the money, better DL back-up could've been brought in.
Assuming Kimo can still play, I'd take him over Kirsh. & Eason put together. They missed his leadership right away. It was a blow losing Bettis & Kimo at the same time. If age is the big issue, then what about Booger McFartland? They were going to sign him until he failed his physical. So why not give Kimo another look?

I think he is with the Eagles now.

Because he's 37 years old.

Agree with DD, I'd use a draft pick or see what the FA market has.
My favorite Kimo memory... Playing with him on Madden 04 or 05 tournament. Dude had like 12 sacks in one game and helped me win a tournament (and $500). Thanks to Kimo (And the glitch that made him play like Reggie White).

I was actually kind of hoping the one old guy they brought back in to be the backup was Kemo. Instead the powers that be decided to bring back both Kirshke and Eason.
Personally, I'd rather have Kemo as a backup. Something tells me he could still get the job done for a game or two in a pinch. I know from experience Kirschke and Eason can't.

While I'd rather have Kimo over Eason, the Steelers have said they need to get younger on the dline, and Kimo just doesn't fit the demo.

37 years young, Dave, 37 years young. He is old enough that we can start referring to his age in that fashion.
(Don't get worked up, people ... Kimo was a good player for the Steelers for a long time. He is just too many years "young" to constitute an upgrade on the DL.)

But they signed Kirschke and Eason. If you're going to signed OLD players, at least sign decent ones.

Yeah, but neither does Kirschke, Eason, or Booger

I would imagine that Kimo would cost a bit more then those three.

You think Kimo would cost more at 37 than Kirscke?
Where was cost mentioned earlier? It was all about age...

Hey, McFart is seven years younger than Kim and he couldn't even pass the physical so age isn't always the issue. Not that I believe it would be a cure-all but, assuming he's not done, I'd like to Kimo back for one year for depth and vet leadership.
Then again, I'm all for bringing in some other FA DL. We all know that some DLs will be drafted, but can a rookie help?
Going into the 08' season with the status quo depth on the DL is disturbing.

after watching our O-line stink up the place, maybe he could play offense.

One of my favorite Kimo moments was the 05 season before the Bears game that started the famous run. In a locker room interview after their 3rd straight loss, he was asked if the Steelers were in a state of panic. He responded by saying "Panic!? No, no, no we don't do that. We're the Pittsburgh Steelers."
As much as I love Kimo, he's not the player he once was.

Yes, I guess age is the thing. But the depth on the D-line is still shaky. The Steelers had trouble with both lines last season. Looks like D-line depth will be adresseed in the draft and that's it. Then again, it's early yet.
I'd like to see them find some diamonds in the rough in the later rounds, like Keisel. I think one of the reasons depth has become depleted since 2005 is that draft picks like Nua and McBean didn't show much.

actually, the reason are DL isnt great because the steelers rarely use a first round pick on DL anymore. hopefully that will change with tomlin. hampton is the only exception.
the steelers need to find great UDFA. they found parker, harrison, and others and have done GREAT.
