Not even close to the next Bus. He is a brute, a pure power back but without Bus's incredibly quick feet. Jerome's quick feet are what separated him from every other 250 pound back, this guy won't make it fo long in the NFL just trying to bulldoze over people.

if you watch, for a guy at 270lbs he has great feet, he is able to make cuts through holes spin off defenders, and even catch the ball well out of the backfield

He is painfully slow and runs upright, Bus was quick and ran with a forward lean

The Bus reportedly is on Obama's bus tour of Pa.
Another reason to like him...
I was watching his feet, and I thought he had them. Nice change of direction at the line of scrimmage, nice fast first step off the break...He would be a nice addition.

This guy is in no way a big slow stiff running back. He is not as quick and nimble as the Bus, but he does have some wiggle.

Is this guy coming out this year? I looked on Walters football website & he's not ranked in the top 50 RB's.

so did Henry Melton
either could be a decent upgrade over Davenport next year, if we want a good power North-South bruiser this year than Forte or Choice.

Well, he does the HB pass nicely but he has no speed to speak of and JB did have speed. He is a pile mover, though and has a bit of nifty feet. Still, with that upright/smashing style I don't know how long he'll last.

3 years and then released, then someone will give him a shot and and he will chill in the hot tub ala Duce & FU

He looks very slow to me. Does have decent feet and catches the ball well.

Bingo. The quick feet is what made Bus so exceptional compared to other big backs. He technically was not a power back.

I thought TJ Duckett was, and then it was Lendale White. Will the real next Jerome Bettis please come forward?

By the way, saying you "lost all respect" for someone because they happen to like a particular politician is, with all due respect, a really dumb thing to say...

You're talking about Harris and Bettis, the two greatest running backs in Steelers history.
And you've "lost all respect" for them because they like a guy who wants to be president?
Isn't that just a teeny bit harsh?

I have plenty of respect for them on the Football field. I don't want to turn it into a political debate (wrong forum) but, knowing what we know about Obama. If they support him that means that they have the same beliefs and Shitty morals as he does.

Personally, for me it was when both of them sold out the city and their legacies to make a quick buck during the slot licensing ordeal.
I don't see why people have to bow down to these guys at all, let alone after they retire.

I'm in no way comparing him to Bettis, but I do like the way he runs. I've watched him his entire college career and although he splits carries each season his production has gone up each year. Never one to break a big one, but he has a nose for the end zone.
If the Steelers got him I'd be excited to see what he can do, but I'm not drooling over the guy. I will be interested to see what he can do in the NFL.

I think Wells will be equivalent to Mendenhall/Stewart/Lynch when it's all said and done, but some sites have him projected as a top-5 pick (that seems high to me).
I don't think he's in the same conversation with Peterson & McFadden, but it's still really early to pin point anyone in 2009.
I think he's an idea Steeler in almost every possible way and could revolutionize our offense if we address the trenches this season and pick him next year. I think there is no doubt a premier running back would actually help our offense much more than a tall wide receiver would, plus the impact is quicker and more likely with 1st round RB's vs. 1st round WR's.
It's just a philosophical thing I guess. I'm not very big on round 1 receivers.

Not to split hairs because I don't know much about Wells but wasn't Parker leading the league in rushing last year before he got hurt? Does that classify as premier?

Not when you're getting 3 more carries a game than anyone else in the league. Parker is good. Parker exceeded expectations. But I have not been in favor of making his the bell cow running back around here he appears to be from 2006-2008. As I've stated in another thread, I haven't been too impressed with our running attack the last couple of seasons. Part of the problem to me is the offensive line, but there is also some issues with Parker and his style of running.
Plus, Parker's contract expires in 2009. He will turn 29 years old that season. I think it's realistic to think ahead of things to come and think the 2009 draft is when we should address the running back position rather high in the draft. I'm not in favor of giving Parker another big contract. That's just my take on it.

Thank God not all of us here in NC think like Ben#7.
Now, to the post...kid doesn't look half bad but I really think they are going to be looking at a powerback in this years draft because of what we saw once Willie went down. We had absolutely no running game with Davenport. It needs to be addressed this year and do not be suprised if one of the top runningbacks fall this year, if the Steelers do not make a move to get them.

I gotcha. I agree in planning for the future. I just think Parkers contributions to the team are a bit underated sometimes because he didn't score a bunch of TD's last season and because he's not the power back everyone's come to associate with "Steelers" football.
