Miami Dolphins-There are strong indications that the Fins have narrowed it down to 2 players IF they do not trade out of the first round. The key guy right now would be Chris Long, DE, Virginia. He may be the smartest pick of the draft. He gives the impression that he may be the most signable player in the top 5. On the outside looking in is Matt Ryan. I think the key decision would be, which player helps you the most.

St. Louis Rams-I think the Rams have narrowed their choices down to 3 players as well. While Dorsey rumors are rampant, scuttle is they are settling on Jake Long IF Chris Long goes #1 overall. If the Dolphins take Chris Long, Jake is the pick. Vernon Gholston is gaining momentum here though.

Atlanta Falcons-Not to continue beating the two horse race theme, but scuttle is the Falcons really like two guys, Ryan and Glenn Dorsey. Talk is they think so much of Dorsey, he has surpassed Ryan and may be the guy they are targeting with the 3rd overall selection.

Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie will probably not make it out of the top 10. Talk is the Saints like him but he may not make it past the Patriots at #7.

Five teams are being linked heavily with runningbacks in the first round and they are Carolina, Houston, Chicago, Detroit, and Dallas. The players most heavily linked with those teams are:
Carolina (13th)-Darren McFadden, Rashard Mendenhall
Houston (18th)-Rashard Mendenhall, Jonathan Stewart
Chicago (14th)-Rashard Mendenhall-word is the Bears are fed up with Benson. If they fail to land Mendenhall in the first, Matt Forte could be their target in the 2nd.
Detroit(15th)-Rashard Mendenhall, Jonathan Stewart, Cory Boyd (not early)
Dallas (22nd, 28th)-Jamaal Charles, Felix Jones, Jonathan Stewart
Mendenhall has private workouts scheduled with the Jets, Bengals, Panthers, Lions, and Bears.

Minnesota Vikings-they are being heavily linked to a pass rushing defensive lineman in the first round. They will not draft a wide receiver. Many believe they will take a QB, but word is a pass rusher is the target.

Brian Brohm-has a private workout set up with the Atlanta Falcons. He has workouts or has already worked out for the Bucs, Jets, Seahawks, Ravens, and Vikings.

Cincy is swirling with runningback trade rumors. It is said they could attempt to make a move forward IF (and only IF) Darren McFadden gets past Oakland at #4. They are not happy with Rudi Johnson's performance last season. They are also in the mix of rumors about Shaun Alexander, who could be traded from the Seahawks.

Go Cinci, pull the trigger on that deal. Make sure you sign Alexander to a nice long deal worthy of an All-Pro running back.

Interesting info. A lot of quality players at the top of the draft. Miami should take Jake or Chris Long and build along their lines. They may be able to pick up a solid QB at the top of the second round.

If Cincy uses up a 2nd round draft pick and goes after McFadden over staying put and drafting Ellis or Rivers, they are really stupid and that would be the best thing for us ever.

The last thing that franchise needs is another premadonna in the locker room and McFadden has that written all over him. My goodness.

And here I thought there was no way the Bengals could lose in this draft at #9 because Ellis or Rivers will definately be there at two huge need positions. Wow.

McFadden is going to bust anyway. If he goes to Cincy it make is happen faster.

The bungals think they could get the next Peterson in McFadden. Sorry to say he will never be as good as that kid.

As for the Alexander thing, Some of friends here in bungal country think it would be a good move. He grew up in northern Kentucky and it would be sort of a home coming that would be a refreshing change for his career.

I think it would be a great move by them. He is not the back he once was and would be a great addition to there IR roster each week. It would also be sort of nice to beat him up twice a year (when he's in the line-up).

the Rams would be fools to pass up a DL like C.Long, yes Pace is almost finished but aside from Carriker & Witherspoon they have pretty much nothing on D, Little is about done.

Gholsten or Chris Long would really help them, they could get a decent LT in rnd 2 like Baker.

The Bengals will show if they don't take Ellis that they need a Cat scan as to determine how damaged thier brains are that they keep ignoring the run D.
Will be sheer comedy if they trade for Alexander who would be target practice for even our slowest DL ( Travis & Nick).

In a local paper, this was stated about the Panthers:

they went to Illinois for a private workout for running back Rashard Mendenhall last week. And to Arkansas to see backs Darren McFadden and Felix Jones. It's not that they've suddenly got runners on their mind with the 13th pick, it's just that's what was on the schedule. The other week, all the offensive linemen worked out in sequence, leading to the week of checking out tackles Gosder Cherilus, Chris Williams and Jeff Otah if he hadn't been hurt. Miami safety Kenny Phillips has gone on the radio talking about how the Panthers have been all over him. And they've conducted private workouts with players from Delaware quarterback Joe Flacco to Appalachian State wide receiver Dexter Jackson and many more.

And, a rumor gathering steam is the Bears are absolutely enamoured with Brandon Albert and will draft him with the 14th pick.

We don't even want to view you while you are still alive except of course the weeks after the Steelers are the "Who Dey" that repeatedly beats your Bengals... so why would we want to view you dead? Would your coffin have pussy cat stripes? :D

I thought one less Bengal fan would give you another reason to celebrate. Plus there will be beer.

Just make sure you wear earplugs. And to be safe, make sure something is always crammed in her mouth.

The Bengals problem has been defense, IMO there is nothing wrong with Rudi Johnson, I've always like him. Their Oline took a step back this past season, but there defense needs fixed big time, not their RB, but I hope they make that move though.

Getting Alexander would definitely not fix the Bungles defensive issues. I agree with Tom in that Rudi can still get the job done, they just had offensive line issues last year. Thanks for sharing the draft rumors TMC.

What exactly is this Formula the league uses to calculate compesary picks? I don't get it because they say we didn't lose anything? Alan Faneca leaving means we didn't loose much? They really need to re-examin this "formula" as Sean Mahan is hardly equal to Faneca.

Steelers won't get extra draft pick
Monday, March 31, 2008
By Ed Bouchette, Pittsburgh Post-Gazette
PALM BEACH, Fla. -- As expected, the Steelers received no extra draft choices when the NFL released its list of compensatory picks today.

The compensatory picks are issued based on a complicated formula that takes into account what teams lost in free agency last year compared to what they acquired.

The Steelers lost little in free agency and signed, for one, starting center Sean Mahan. They did not expect to receive any extra picks and will have six picks entering the April 26-27 draft -- one in each of the first six rounds. They traded their seventh-round pick for punt return Allen Rossum, whom they released in February.

Cincinnati and Baltimore were the main recipients of compensatory picks among the four AFC North Division teams. Cincinnat received four extra picks -- one in the third, sixth and two in the seventh. Baltimore received four draft choices -- one each in the third, fourth, sixth and seventh rounds.
