View Full Version : Pac Man and Steelers....

The cowboys are offering a scrub player and a late round pick for PacMan Jones. As crazy as this sounds, how about the steelers pulling off a draft day trade and offering a 3rd round pick (better than Dallas's offer) and CB McFadden for the PacMan. Talk about value for a 3rd rounder- we get a 'shut down' cornerback w/ experience as well as an excellent kick returner. The Steelers can still fill their other needs with their 1st and 2nd rounder. Not to mention we will probably lose McFadden next season anyways.

I guess my question is: Has there EVER been a circumstance where the Steeler organization has taken a chance on a player like this? Because, if there was ever a time to grab a very good player in exchange for next to nothing- this is our chance.

You won't get much support for Pac here, bub. We need an impact player at DB but I would rather draft one with the #1 pick.

So, this is your first day on Earth and you've never heard of 1) The Rooney family or 2) the concept of CLASS?

Please, go be a Patriot or Raider or Cowgirl fan. We don't need people who are willing to settle for low life pigs as Steeler fans.

The Bus was in the dog house for the Rams, not sure what the national feeling was towards him though. But character has always been a big concern for the Steelers, as it should be.

LeftCoast.........understood.

Just thought "Man, what a deal that would be. Get your shutdown cornerback AND still keep the first rounder."

With Cowher as our headcoach, we didn't touch these type of 'troubled' players. In fact, we dumped them. Even though it semed to be a 'Rooney traditional thing', could it have actually really been a 'Cowher' thing? Could there be a change of attitiude now that Tomlin's in charge? I mean, we're keeping Harrison after his incident, right? Yes, we're keeping him because he's A PLAYER, but maybe we're also keeping him because of Tomlin's pull in the matter. Could you see Tomlin going up to Rooney and Colbert requesting, "Give me a shot with this PacMan kid. I can keep him out of trouble."

Next question- Prior to Cowher, did our organization ever take a chance on a troubled player?

offhand, I'd say no.....not one that contributed much of enough for me to remember, anyways.....

was Earnest Jackson a Noll guy?

we built through the draft then....it was still possible back then.

ASSGRY, yes- I understand class. By me making this outlandish thread, I ask that you please don't Nazi me into a Raider or Cowboy concentration camp. I promise, I'll be good.

But actually, what Im doing here with this thread is posing a question and then getting other people's opinions on the matter. You see, this form of questioning leads me to answers and thus a better understanding of what our organization may or may not do in the future. These questions also kill the time and make for interesting conversations. And last but not least, these questions also allows everyone else on this board to draw conclusions on the type of ASSGRY that you are by the accusations that you can't help but blurt out.

Oh, I can help it. Face it, dude, this thread is dumb. PacMan Jones was a head case in college. EVERYONE knew what would happen when he started getting big pay checks. Then it happened and some people acted surprised. Amazing! And you have the nerve to mention this dirt bag's name and Steelers in the same breath? From the same mouth you kiss your mother with? Shame!

So, he's been 'good' for a few weeks and the big trade rumors start. Pft! As soon as he starts to settle in somewhere he'll be in big trouble again. He just can't help it. He's a criminal. Always has been/always will be.

You've been warned. Mention chunks of human excrement in relation to MY STEELERS again and you will no longer be allowed fan status.

Bettis was not arrested for anything. The entire issue with Bettis was that they were changing the offense and he and the coach had a disagreement. WAAAAY different than Pac Man.

Many people, like myself, saw Bettis as a good player in a bad organization that didn't know what they were doing.

We could use the CB. . . but we build through the draft. . . besides, seems like he's a wee bit of a troublemaker ;)

On a side note, it is good to start discussions like these, we figure out what we definitely DON'T want. Then me have a much more clear idea of what we DO want. . .

Here's to the '09 Campaign!

I'd do it. Honestly, I see very little wrong with what has been prooven that pacman did. I've visited my fair share of strip clubs and had a rowdy time or two and I plan to do it again... Soon. Is he dumb? Yep. But I think the right coach and right people around him can show him how to focus on doing what he needs to do to keep his nose JUST clean enough to stay in the leauge.

No way, however, do the Steelers ever do this. Not even for a 7th Rounder do the Rooneys do this. Probably not even if he's free and all pacman got was a vet minimum salary. That's probably a good thing. People like me shouldn't be making football decisions.

The ONLY reason why I think Pacman should even be allowed to play on any team is because I miss the analysts making the Pacman sound when he's running back an INT (I wanna say Berman, but that's probably not right). You guys really dragged it thru the dirt when I mentioned the possibility of trading a 3rd round pick and CB McFadden to the Titans for PacMan, and I thought I'd bring this to your attention:

LINK:
http://www.pittsburghlive.com/x/pittsburghtrib/sports/steelers/s_560331.html

"The Rooneys' reputation as decent, everyday folk is well-earned. They are good people. Professionally, their mission is to win and make money - and in pro football, that is rarely accomplished by playing nice.

If the drive to win leads the Steelers to draft a player who tested positive for marijuana in college, as offensive tackle Marvel Smith did, so be it.

If it means bolstering the backfield by acquiring a player with a questionable history, oh well. Two years ago, the Steelers signed Najeh Davenport, who faced a felony charge of second-degree burglary and a misdemeanor count of criminal mischief when he entered the NFL in 2002. He settled the charges by performing 100 hours of community service.

Davenport ran into more trouble last season when he pleaded not guilty to domestic violence, child endangering and unlawful restraint in a confrontation with the mother of his 5-year-old son.

The Steelers did not attempt to send a message by cutting Davenport. They are waiting out the legal process.

Entering the 2006 draft, some teams might have had misgivings about Ohio State receiver Santonio Holmes, seeing as he was the unmarried father of three children by two women. He'd also been arrested and charged with disorderly conduct after a 2003 altercation involving Ohio State football players and a group of women, one of whom reportedly sustained a broken jaw.

Holmes, held out of the opening series of the Michigan game as punishment, pleaded not guilty. Charges were dismissed when a prosecution witness reportedly could not identify Holmes as having been involved in the fight. Holmes' attorney told the Columbus Dispatch his client was trying to break up the fight.

The Steelers traded up in the first round to take Holmes, who subsequently was arrested twice in a 25-day span."

Now, the Heyman's not stating that the Steelers are going to make a trade for PacMan or even that I would even want PacMan on our team if this unlikely scenario ever occured. But I will state that some of you guys have some REAL STRONG 'SNAP' JUDGEMENTS on other posters 'suggestions' or 'fancies'. That's one gold star, not four. That means "terrible".

However, this thread is reaching far into the realm of embarrassing. It's a shame that fans from other boards can come here and see a Steeler fan entertaining the thought of signing Pacman Jones. It's pretty much a stain on our entire fanbase. Congratulations, douche bucket.

in my opinion this would be a no-brainer.

TAKE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!

give him leauge min salary and a contract that is incentive loaded, with a claus that if he ever should even fart the wrong way he forfeits his entire contract.

this isn't even a gamble, in my mind. it's a no brainer. you got a EXTREMELY troubled athlete who's talent is the only thing that's kept him in the media and not forgotten about.......cause he's also a EXTREMELY good athlete.

throw a roster spot his way and see if he can earn it while he's here. at the very least we get entertained by the circus act and lose next to nothing on his contract.

but if (and this is a HUGE "if") he is able to mature a little and the steelers are able to breed a more "team first instead of me first" attitude in him then we could have one of the best CB packages in the league.

Criminals seems to be able to play for Steve Spurrier (check out the criminal statistics of the University of South Carolina football team). I'd like to think the Rooneys, Tomlin, and the rest of the Steeler organization have more class. Pac Man would sully the reputation of the organization. I would not like to have to defend having Pac Man as a member of the Steeler team at my favorite adult beverage consumption establishment here in South Carolina.

the historians (fans) on this site seem to think we should run 90% of the time. of those runs 80% should be made by the fullback instead of halfback. we should only have 1 WR and our D should be the 6-1 like the bears ran back in the 30's or whenever.

basically, i'm trying to say that the game changes alot faster than this fanbase.

no, why. do you have an actual line of thinking as to why you would consider me stupid?

Yea. Let me help you:

On July 13, 2005 Jones was arrested on charges of assault and felony vandalism stemming from a nightclub altercation. On September 5, 2005 Jones was a guest at the annual Nashville Sports Council Kickoff Luncheon. After a loud verbal tantrum when he was told to wait in line for his vehicle later that evening, Jones was counseled by the police. He also refused to pay for any valet services used that evening, because he didn't have money at the time. On October 2005, in a petition filed by the State of West Virginia, it was alleged that Jones had not made regular and sufficient contact with his probation officer and that he did not report his July arrest in Nashville in a timely fashion. The court ordered the probation extended for a period of 90 days, although the state requested it to be extended one year.

On August 25, 2006, Jones was arrested in Murfreesboro, Tennessee for disorderly conduct and public intoxication after claiming that a woman stole his wallet. She claimed that she did not steal anything and Jones spat on her. Police officers said they ordered Jones to leave several times, but he refused, continuing to shout profanities at the woman. A judge granted him six months probation on the conditions that he stays out of further trouble and away from the nightclub.[27] On October 26, 2006. Jones was cited for misdemeanor assault for allegedly spitting in the face of a female student from Tennessee State University during a private party at Club Mystic, a Nashville nightclub. He was suspended by the Titans for one game and was scheduled to be booked on the charge on November 17, 2006.

Jones also is set to appear in a Fayetteville, Georgia court in 2007 for his February 2006 incident on subpoenas for felony and misdemeanor obstruction of justice charges for an incident outside a home. The charges of marijuana possession in the same state were dismissed.

On June 18, 2007 Jones was sought by police for questioning after a shooting at an Atlanta strip club allegedly involved members of his entourage. According to police at the scene, Jones was not present during the shooting, and is not being charged.

On May 7, 2007, Jones was stopped at 12:45 a.m. on Interstate 65 heading into downtown after an officer clocked him on radar at 79 mph in a 55 mph zone. Jones was driving his red 2004 Cadillac XLT he bought at police auction last fall. Police seized the Cadillac last spring in a drug bust. The car was not registered to Jones then, but he told a local TV reporter he had loaned the Cadillac to someone for a music video. Police called the man who had the car the main target of their investigation.

On the morning of February 19, 2007 during the 2007 NBA All-Star Game weekend in Las Vegas, Jones is alleged to have been involved in an altercation with an exotic dancer at Minxx, a local strip club. Jones and American rap artist Nelly patronized the club on the evening in question. Nelly began to shower the stage with hundreds of one-dollar bills, with fellow bad boy known only as Richard Rich, an act known as "making it rain." Jones then joined Nelly by throwing his own money for "visual effect." Club promoter Chris Mitchell then directed his dancers to collect the money. According to the club's co-owner, Jones became enraged when one of the dancers began taking the money without his permission. He allegedly grabbed her by her hair and slammed her head on the stage. A security guard intervened and scuffled with members of Jones' entourage of half a dozen people. Jones then allegedly threatened the guard's life.[30] During this time Mitchell and a male associate left the club with a garbage bag filled with $81,020 of Jones' money and two Breitling watches, which police later recovered.

After club patrons exited following the original confrontation, the club owner says a person in Jones' entourage returned with a gun and fired into a crowd, hitting three people, including the security guard involved in the earlier skirmish. The guard was shot twice, and one of the people hit, former professional wrestler Tommy Urbanski, was paralyzed from the waist down. Jones maintains that he did not know the shooter, although the club's owner insists that Jones did. On March 26, 2007 the Las Vegas Police recommended to the city's district attorney that Jones be charged with one count of felony coercion and also a misdemeanor count of battery and a misdemeanor count of threat to life.

More trouble followed Jones after the altercation, when drug dealer Darryl Moore reported to the police after being busted during a deal about his phone conversations with Jones. "We gotta slow down, man. We gotta get him focused on football, man. He's focused on too much other shit," Moore is alleged to have said. Wiretapped phone conversations between Moore and his friends revealed Moore talking about how Jones bet on college games to earn quick money. "You know, I was talkin' to him the other day about smokin', and he was like 'man, if I didn't smoke I couldn't take all the stress that I'm dealing with right now,'" Moore said.[33] Jones has not been connected to the Moore drug arrests or convicted for the Vegas stripper incident. But Titans management have said they will talk to Jones about his future with the Titans, and that there is always a possibility of letting him go. The NFL has issued an investigation into the situation, which is looking into setting up stricter penalties for off-field conduct.

On June 20, 2007, the Las Vegas Police and Clark County District Attorney's office announced that Jones would face two felony charges stemming from the strip club melee.[35] But on November 13th, 2007, Jones accepted a plea deal[36]; on Dec. 6, Jones pleaded no contest to one charge of conspiracy to commit disorderly conduct, a misdemeanour. He was given a suspended prison sentence of a one-year, probation, and ordered to perform 200 hours of community service.

On June 25, 2007, Tommy Urbanski and his wife Kathy sued Jones in civil court, claiming that Jones had bitten his left ankle, and was responsible for the shooting. The lawsuit also named the Tennessee Titans franchise and the NFL as defendants, on the grounds that Jones's employers knew of his erratic behavior prior to the Minxx incident but did not suspend him until afterwards. Had the Titans suspended Jones prior to the NBA All-Star game, the suit argues, he would not have been invited to the Las Vegas events, and the incident would not have taken place.

My first day on Steeler Nation. It's interesting. I didn't quite expect all the flaming, especially at what to me, is a pretty ok post. Eh, I'll for now look at the value of each thread. Once I figure who the spammers and scammers are I might look at it differently, but for now my eyes are virgins.

A good thread starts with some sort of reasonable premis. Some NFL team will pick up Pac Man so it is not unreasonable to speculate about the Steelers. A good thread generates interest. This one has the most views and responses today.

I DO know a good post does not contain personal attack or insults. If you disagree with the premis of someone else's post, say so and give a sensible argument to support your view. The posting of insults only devalues the opinion of the one who posts the insult. Insulting someone makes YOU look stupid and MAY elevate the value of a less than well thought out position.

I may have forgotten all of the debating strategeries I learned at Pitt, but it was a long time ago. I DO remember that in a debate, the firsrt person to resort to insult, regardless of the value of the position of the person that resorts said insult, loses. Debate 101.

Coolieman, be cool. As much as an attention whore I may or may not be- this thread was started with the intention of discussing PacMan and the Steelers and, yes, the VERY unlikely possibility of the Steelers signing this player.

As I've read throughout this thread, it seems that you hip-raging dino-fans of the 70's disapprove of this idea. In my opinion, why wouldn't the Steelers trade for this so called 'criminal'? Well, the real reasons may be more related the Titans desire of forcing their bonus money onto another new team's lap (which is something that I do not see the Steelers doing). But, still- did any person in the Steeler's front office (Rooney, Tomlin, Colbert) call for a meeting to discuss the possibility of grabbing PacMan? I believe they did. In fact, I believe lots of 'classy' teams (with the need for a shutout cornerback)had ''open discussions'' about the possibilities of grabbing PacMan. The point is- the Titans ONLY want a 4th rounder this year and a 5th rounder next year for PacMan. This is a TOP TEN DRAFTED player we are talking about here. That is called 'value'. I don't think our front office immediately hears the word PacMan and, like most of you love to do, close the door and lock it.

Here is this dino-fans take on this matter: Current of Past Steeler players with criminal or shady problems? "Nothing wrong with him, we need a player like that with an agressive attitude!"

Look at James Harrison. That dude hit his lady. I don't know what is stats are, but I assume they're something like 'over six foot' tall and weighing in at 225-250 lbs. What do you think his woman's stats were? 5'8" and 135 lbs? In the eyes of the SteelerFan, this guy didn't do anything wrong. In fact, since it serves our purpose- we need a guy with this kind of agressiveness on the defense, right? I haven't seen one thread on this board that reads, "CUT HARRISON NOW" by any of you law abiding common SteelerFans. Why? Because Harrison is a signed player and thus can be of use for your own personal future SuperBowl bragging right purposes. You KNOW he's on the team- you know he has a roster spot.

A guy like PacMan? Well,he's not signed- and it is obvious that the price is too high for the Steelers organization to grab him. So instead of stating these simple facts as to the reason of why we won't try to grab PacMan, you dinos instead make this holier than thou statement that or FO is 'better' than the McDonalds common criminal and would never have a guy like that on our roster.

Sure- okay. I'll buy that opinion for nickel.

Obviously you are not aware that the dumbest threads usually get the most attention.

A1aParrot:

[I]"My first day on Steeler Nation. It's interesting. I didn't quite expect all the flaming, especially at what to me, is a pretty ok post. Hey doesn't really suggest the Steelers actually DO what he proposes. He just tossed something controversial out for discussion. He even prefaces his comment with "as crazy as this sounds". He also poses the question about the Steelers picking up troubled players. I'm on record as a NO vote for Pac Man, but I certainly don't have a negative view of Hey for his thread. The flames directed at him are unwarranted.

Do I need to duck now"I]

T-Bone, why don't you look back along the pages of this thread and see how many times I insulted another person directly, would you? GO take a look. In fact, look at all the threads that I have either started or made a comment at. Those threads start off with a point or a story and then get responses. (Yes, even Bettis's Omelet had a response that seemed positive) That is called communication between people. Show me one insult or cyber-threat towards another person on this message board.

[B]A1aParrot (a person who is new here and brings a perfectly open mindedness to the board) is right, anything said 'out of the norm' is shot down and killed by people that have the 'clicke' here. Hell, if you don't like what someone says, simply shut your trap and not respond to the thread. But the dinos here won't allow that to happen.

Ban me if you want. Shut down my thread if you want. Then go out and read a book called 1984.

first of all......go read "Homage to Catalonia"....probably Orwell's best.....

second of all, this bit of fantasy has run it's course.

third of all, this..."Hurry and lock it powerman! Hurry!"....and..."Perfect post to lock Dinoman!" aren't exactly non-insulting......

fourth of all....you're getting exactly what you played for.

Yeesh, threats of banishment.

Oh please can you not start with this shit especially if you are new and have no idea what goes on here?

I really get tired of the ban whining. Cause it happens SO often.

I have been here as long as anyone (since day 1), and I don't come here as often partially due to the whiney assed banning....

My apologies guys (and gals). Didn't mean to turn this thread into a b!tch session. Didnt mean to insult anyone Tbone. I guess I got carried away when the other old time posters started their typical thrashing. And now someone has to be the better man and end the silliness.

I've got nothing else to say about PacMan so I'm done with this thread. Have a nice day.

My daughter is having a big dance recital this year with the theme "One Hit Wonders". She's dancing to "Pacman Fever" and her costume is totally 80's, rad!
