ATHENS, Tenn. (AP) -- Authorities said former Oklahoma State receiver and NFL hopeful Adarius Bowman has been charged with simple possession of marijuana near his hometown of Chattanooga.

McMinn County Jail Officer Cody Price said Bowman was arrested Tuesday night and released after posting a $500 bond.

He was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.

Officials could not immediately provide details of the arrest, which was first reported by The Daily Post-Athenian.

Bowman declined comment when reached on the phone by The Associated Press. His agent, Brian Overstreet, did not immediately return a message left at his office.

In two years at Oklahoma State, Bowman ranked fourth in school history in receptions with 127 and total yards with 2,187.

Bowman transferred after being dismissed from North Carolina following a citation for possession of marijuana that was later dismissed.

Right before a proceeding which could involve millions of dollars, have marijuana in your possession.

Genius, I tell ya, pure genius.

Never give a potential employer a reason to pay you less money. Get your big money first and then use it, if needed, to get yourself out of any future problems.

What a maroon.

after all that pre-draft work, he just went and threw away some big time bucks...however, i am of the opinion that the NFL and other pro sports leagues have really given up on the marijuana issue behind the scenes...drug testing only goes so far, and there are ways around it...if you get caught and/or fail a urinalysis, you are effed, but I'm sure there are guys who have been toking for the majority of their careers and never have had an issue...however, this kid is an idiot and any mocks that involved him in the black and gold next year might as well be thrown out.

NFLDraftScout.com had him listed as a 5th rounder...probably just became a UDFA. Idiot.

I had him a few mocks in rounds 4 & 5 but you might as well cross him off the list totally now. Man it really pisses me off to see these guys throw shit away like this. All they have to do is keep their asses out of trouble for like 4 months and they will get more money then most of us will ever see and they con't do it....wow! I would kill to have that kind of chance not just to play in the NFL but the money it will bring and how that will change you life. What a fuckin waste......................

I used to live in Dalton, GA, which is just south of Chattanooga. I was never able to drive through that town without getting high.

Was it because of the vapors and fumes from all of the Carpet factories in Dalton or was it something else in the air?

It's hard to feel any pity for athletes that are stupid enough to get into any trouble prior to the draft. He may enjoy working at Piggly Wiggly.

I was actually talking about Chattanooga. I had to go through there everytime I would go home to Ky, and vice versa. Sometimes, I would go through there for no reason at all.

If you have airborne seasonal allergies, Chattown is the worst place in the US. The city is basically a bowl in surrounded by several mountains. There are not that many "Choo Choo" trains here as there was 30-40 years ago, but the Aquarium with the IMAX gets alot of business!

Pure idiocy. Damn shame when talented players cost themselves millions by making stupid decisions. Bowman will be lucky to even be picked up after the draft. Somebody might take a chance, but doubt it.
