View Full Version : If you were Ben...

Would you even consider re-signing with the Steelers after this season? If I were him, I would certainly wait to see if they make an effort to improve the line. No sense staying with a team that won't protect you and will make you a cripple before you're 30.

I really get tired of announcers calling ours a good offensive line. Ben has company in the backfield before he even gets to set his feet, and if Willie didn't break a tackle in the backfield, we'd have negative rushing yards in the first quarter.

As much as I hate to say it I wouldn't stay without a honest effort to improve the line. I would need a good free agent signing like Lilja from the Colts and a draft pick in the first 2 or 3 rounds. I also wouldn't mind seeing Ken Anderson getting the OC job.

if i was ben i would walk up to mahan before the snap with him ready to snap the ball and kick him in the ass as hard as i could for not blocking

If I were Ben I would move my hands so Mahan hits himself square in the nuts with the ball

This is a total joke! I am seriously having a hard time watching us get manhandled.

If I were Ben...I would've sat today and let Batch play. Clearly the shoulder is bothering him and wasn't just a ruse.

Ben might not be 100%, but Ward dropped a couple easy passes, there were a few wrong routes ran, the ball to Nate was high, but he got both hands on the ball. And when you are getting you ass put on the ground every other play it starts to wear on you, and the play calling is horrible.

Good points and I agree. I think it's a combination of things.

Ben played his heart out today. Williie did also. And, Heath did on that last play. I think he got a couple extra feet but the official didn't want to make the call.

The D totally sucked ass. Troy played great in his return but wasn't enough to make a difference on D. They got raped all game long.

the biggest question in my mind is, will the Rooneys be willing to pay Ben what he will command. I don;t have a lot of faith in that.

I think they will be more than willing to pay him. The real question is will he want to come back especially with that Oline.

If I were Ben I would go find a team that is a solid QB away from being contenders and go there...the Steelers have a LONG way to go

That's been an obvious flaw in our passing game since week 1. With two games left in the regular season, it's not much better. Pittsburgh better clean house with the offensive coaches in the off-season starting with the mentally challenged Arians.

I think he'll stay, at least I hope so. Does anyone really think we'll have the same O-line next year? I do want Faneca back, though. Maybe Starks, as well.

Our offense didn't lose the game today...our vastly overrated Defense did

As someone here brought up recently, it is pretty easy for the defense to get a good jump on the pass rush when we let the play clock run down to 2 or 1 seconds every time.

The bigger question is "If I were the Rooney's" I'd seriously question the advisor that said that Mahan and Simmons were wise long term signings.

It's scarry enough for a fan imagining Mahan and Simmons returning next season...just imagine if you were Ben.

And still threw for 3 TD's. I really wish the O-Line had been addressed during the offseason/draft. Ben is having such a great year, to think how things could be behind a competent O-Line.

I'm going to look at the positive. Mahan makes Simmons look good.

If I were Ben i'd kick the sh!t out of the defense beside maybe Polomalu.

Pathetic tackeling.

For one thing, if I were Ben, I'd disconnect the feed from Arians. Ben would be better calling his own plays. I don't even want to go into what he should do about his "protectors".

Our defense on the Jags last drive for the winning td, was #%^&^%$#.

I need a cup of coffee.

Our tackles are horrible. Just horrible. Simmons ranges from 'stink' to 'didn't really notice him today'.

Mahan has no business being a center. I'm willing to give him the benefit of doubt and say that he's a guard playing out of position, but seriously he DOES NOT belong at center. I'm really left wondering how he beat out Okobi, because I know Okobi wasn't that bad.

We need to hit the draft picks AND free agency in search of an OL next year.

OL isn't the only problem. Nate Washington is too hit and miss. Time to end that experiment. I'm also getting sick and tired of watching Anthony Smith make me long for the days of Scott Shields. Seriously, no seriously - does Anthony Smith know how to tackle someone? I mean actually square up and wrap his arms as opposed to just flinging himself at the ball carrier (and knocking his own guys off the tackle in the process)?

Totally agree. Maybe Mahan can move to guard and we either draft a center or find one in FA. I haven't seen an OL this bad since the 80's. They can't pass protect or run block.

Smith has been watching Troy too much. I hope Clark gets back healthy for next year.

Why wouldn't he sign here, he has the best offensive line in the NFL according to Big Ben's post game interviews all season. He sure thanks them enough.

The reason Ben won't leave is because the Rooney's will pay him and no where else he goes will he be as popular as he is in Pittsburgh, he knows the fans here are the best.

As for Smith, all our DB's tackle like that, everyone one of them.

Okobi played better than Mahan in the preseason, I said it then and I'm still saying it. Everyone used to bitch about certain players being Cowher guys, well looks like Mahan and is a Tomlin guy, every coach has guys they like.

Starks is better than Colon, has been since day one. Starks should've been starting over him weeks ago, now it looks like Starks is our best OT, and guess what? He's a FA along with our best Olinemen.

Ben needs to learn how to do a 3 step drop and get rid of the ball quick. I know he likes to drop way back and look around, his scrambling can, at times, be lethal. But he needs to get the ball off quickly sometimes. And when the o-line is sucking is a good time to do that!

Ben can't do 3-step-drops when Arians calls 99% long routes that take more time to develop than our sorry O-Line can give him...

There's an interview somewhere, where Arians said the first thing he did when he was name OC was take all the 3 step drops out of the playbook.
