Lay it on the line. Given all that you've heard and read up to this point, who do you pick as our first pick this year. My choice is.......... Quentin Groves.

Anyone not named Huey Timmons.

I hope Cherilus is still on the board. He's my pick.

I'm going with Gosder Cherilus, OT, Boston College. I think we'll go O-line in the 1st and I don't see Albert being there. In a few years I could see Starks at LT and Cherilus at RT.

I have a feeling there will be a run on O-Linemen in the middle of the round. I don't think Cherilus will be there, hence my pick of Groves.

I think some players are rising, and I think(hope) some how Chris Williams makes it down to us.

I will also stick by my pick of Cherilus, but still with the hope of a trade-down a few spots & an additional pick.

47 sacks against. We don't have a more important need than the protection of our franchise QB. It damn sure better be the best OL on the board.

MY inside confidential sources force me to retract all my previous bids.
Ben is running this team now and he wants a WR.
I'll take Sweed.

I think the Steelers are going to shock the world with their pick... so for that reason, I say we are going to select S Kenny Phillips from the U.
Why do I think this? Beers... lots of beer... and they had a private workout with him... and they are worried about Ryan Clark and Mr Guarantee Smith in the secondary. Will I like this pick? NO, but I think we are in for a day of questioning.

Trade Down: Groves

I am thinking they are going to pick someone that nobody thinks will be picked or somebody no one wants them to pick...ex. last year Timmons. I hope they take the best OL available, Albert, Williams, Cherilus and if they can trade down i'd like to see Hardy or Groves and then a slew of OL later.

Stewart if there at 23
Groves if not as I don't think this is a reach at 23.
Reaching for OL help here that's of the same caliber as the talent in the second round doesn't make sense.
I'd rather draft a potential game changer here and a contributor in the second. Than two contributors.
High risk high reward. They talk a good game of best available athlete but this front office has a long track record of succesfully taking chances on dynamic players in the first.

As strange as this seems, there are a few credible media outlets whose mocks show Branden Albert sliding to #23, and sometimes past.
Maybe some of his pre-draft steam is fading.
Word is, teams are concerned about switching him to OT.
Last night on ESPN's On The Clock Special, Schlereth and Reese both commented about the difficulty of switching positions on the O-Line.
I have heard this argument from various other outlets as well.
Teams are beginning to see him purely as the Guard he is and he's slipping.
It may be just wishful thinking, but at least there's a glimmer of hope.

I'm not an NFL GM or talent evaluator. Whomever is the best OL on the board when we pick. We need help at Guard (Kemo or Mahan aren't long term solutions) and at Tackle (Smith is done after this year and Colon doesn't impress). After we go OL, I'd load up on defense in round 2, WR in round 3 and defense the rest of the way.

Gosder Cherilus, Quentin Groves, or trade down.
If we trade into the top of the 2nd round, I would like to get James Hardy.
Trading into the 2nd would probably yield us another 2nd.
With Hardy on board:
2nd: Hardy WR
2nd: Nicks/Collins OT
2rd: Godfrey CB
3rd: Langford DE

I actually made a mistake there saying extra 2nd and 3rd. Fixed to reflect only an extra 2nd b/c I'm not sure how that will unfold.
I wasn't picking Hardy as the late 2nd rounder...he would be the pick that was directly switched for our first. (say pick 30-35).

We will draft Limas Sweed. The best WR in this draft.
The best at all other positions of need will be gone by the time we pick. Sweed will fall to us and go on to be an 5 time pro bowl WR.

So far, barring no moves, it's Gosder Cherilus. That could change. One moves ahead of us or two we could move down. There will be a couple guys available at 23 we'll have to think about, but if Cherilus is there and I think he will be, he's it. It's possible he's gone when we pick, and if he is then someone else will be there we didn't anticipate.

Hardy..... if we stay at 23.... no stiff Cherlious.... no RB with a bad wheel
2 other possibilities if we stay at 23 that wouldn't suprise me, but probably would others.... Phillips FS, or Big RED Bryant

Wow lay it on the line.
I believe Merling might fall do to the hernia. We got lucky recently with that type of injury pushing a player down and why can't lightning strike twice. He is about a 15-19 talent so he wouldn't have to far to fall.
If we don't stay at 23 and we move to 28- 34 then Groves is my choice.
Long shot on the trade down is Campbell of the U. He has a high ceiling in more ways then one.

The Steelers will try and trade down, if they can't, they will take Quentin Groves.
Tomlin has already said that he likes Groves. It gives us depth after losing Haggins.
Gosder Cherilus is a RT, I believe he will go to SD, who needs a RT,
or slip into the 2nd round. He will not be the Steelers pick, they have
enough guys that are his equal at RT already.
My sleeper pick is Red Bryant. Although he should be available latter
in the draft. He is another Casey Hampton and those types don't
come around too often.
Garrett

I'm guessing Cherilus at #23.
If the potential ATL trade down to #34 happens: Cliff Avril is the pick, because Groves will be gone.

I'll stab myself in the eye if we take Red in Round 1. Not a big enough need for our first pick and everything I read has him going anywhere from late 2nd to 4th.

1st round: Someone who will be hated by at least 46.7% of the board.
2nd round: Someone who will be hated by at least 38.4% of the board.
3rd round: Someone who will be hated by at least 68.8% of the board.

I have a feeling with all the guys that are climbing up the board Williams may be the guy that falls to us and he is the guy I want. Some other guys I would like to see fall to us are DRC and Mckelvin. I would be happy with Cherilus and also if we went Dline in the first since oline, wr, rb, and cb are so deep I don't think dline is as deep. I know this covers just about every position but I am still trying to get over the Carriker loss from last year so I really don't want to get hooked on one guy.

I'm with rossi and holding out hope for Merling to fall to us. I'd love to have Stewart but I think that he goes by #15.
I'd love to know what players the Steelers would stand pat to get regardless of trade down offers, but my number one want would be a trade down to get an extra second and an extra third.

Wow, that is a bold statement about Bryant, but I was thinking this today. This is a tough guy that would really help bolster this DL. I really hope we can move out of RD 1 and get into the top of RD 2 and tap this guy.

What I like about Bryant is the fact that he is soild against the run
and tends to tie up 2 blockers. Very Hampton like.
When you can tie up more than one blocker that will free
up another player on the D to make a play.
In a 3-4 defense you need big guys up front making life tough for the oline.
Bryant will allow our LB's to be more effective.
I would love to draft him in R#2.
I would not be afraid to take him in R#1, depending on the circumstances.
The Steelers have him on their radar, he is a player they scouted
and interviewed.
According to USA Today: Bryant has "long arms, solid muscle tone,
broad shoulders, wide hips and think lower body". "It is very tough for blockers to gain movement off the snap" vs Bryant. Was called the teams most important player by the coaching staff. "Excels at neutralizing multiple blockers." He plays with a low center of gravity.

I'm just sayin just cause he burned the crap out of Justin King doesnt really mean that much cause he really only had that one big game for a guy with so much size and hes not even really all that tough physically. He also likes to hit the ladies and with all our recent trouble I dont think its happening.

My number one pick is whoever the BPA is at the positions of OL, DL, CB, or RB...if Stewart falls to us and there is not a higher value pick at any of the other positions I've listed above, then I'll jump off my couch when we take him, just like I did when we took Randell El in the 2nd round of that draft. IMO our O'line will be fine this year due to upgrading the center position, and if they stay healthy. We need quality depth, which we can pick up in the 2nd or 3rd round in this draft.

a WR is scary in the first round, I think Big Ben can be unstoppable with big strong WR but I dont think in the first is smart. I think theyll get one mid to late rounds. Im really sick of all the mocks sayin Cherilus (however spelled) I like Stewart if he falls but doubt it. My choice is Quentin Groves, tomlin was cheerin him on at his pro day and hes a steeler fan. Not to mention could be the best pass rusher in the draft, were thin at OLB behind woodley n harrison with timmons maybe moving to the inside.

I would like to see us trade out of the first round altogether and load up on second and third round picks. If that happens then we could kill two birds with one stone and I would grab Sam Baker and Trevor Laws. If we stand pat, I would look at who is left and grab one of these guys in order: Talib, Harvey, Balmer, or Stewart.

I'm hoping that the Steelers are better poker players than last year. The pick at 23 looks likely to be Gosder Cherilus, OT, Boston College. My guess is that they trade down out of the first and their first pick will be Cliff Avril, DE/OLB, Purdue.

I would want Limas Sweed or Hardy. The offensive line was bad but not bad enough to pass on a top prospect.Ben did have his best year, made the pro bowl behind this line. Willie Parker was leading the NFL in rushing behind this line. They must of done something right in those games. Some of those 47 sacks could be attributred to Ben having to make very quick decisions and trying to find small reicievers who seem to be covered in that split second he looks downfield.
In my opinion this is were a tall reciever would be ideal. If you look at some of the deep pass plays Ben just heaves it up and hopes his reciever comes up with the ball, it's a 50% chance he'll make a play. A taller reciever greatly improves those percentages.
I'm assuming Williams, Otah, Albert, Clady, and Stewart are gone.
I'll go with Limas Sweed.
I also would like Merling, Jenkins, or Campbell.

I figured last year we were going to take Timmons. But to tell you the truth, I have no idea who they will pick this year. I think it all will depend on what happens before them and if they would trade out of the spot. It is going to be interesting to see what happens.
