Today he was. Last week it was Colon, before that it was Mahan. What do you do, bench everyone? We need some new bodies this off season.

I can honestly say that he may be the worst OL I have ever seen. Really

The sick thing is that this has been happening all fucking year long!

Marvel has been lunging at people since the wildcard game in 05. Yet, the homers here are so goddamned quick to sluff it off. You're labeled here if you comment on how bad a player is sucking on the field. People did it with Mahan and Marvel when we were winning the easy ones early on. But it only crystallizes to people when we get fucking man-handled like this. If Starks would've started at LT, then i think we win this game.

I got another one for ya, how many times do we need to get painfully out-coached in order for anyone (media or otherwise) to light a fire under Mike Tomlin's ass? Or do we go home without a playoff berth and Tomlin gets a "pass" for being a rookie..... which is complete bullshit because he inherited a talent-loaded team

Did you see how fucking big the Jags oline and dline were? Those dudes are huge. That is what I'm talking about. I have been saying it for 2 years now. WE NEED BIG UGLIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And it gets worse, while Faneca isn't having his best year, he's easily our best guy and he's gone after this season.
Kemo couldn't beat out Simmons. Simmons and Mahan both signed pretty decent contracts, they aren't going anywhere, Starks is RFA I think, and Colon is back.

Our OL completely sucks - we will be losing our only decent OL in FA. 3 of our 4 LBs are washed up.I would say we need to replace at least one DB. That is 8 of 22 starters. And our Special teams are thin.

How is this a talent laden team?

I just thought to myself, "I wonder how many offensive line threads has chicoman created during the game".

Actually in game this is the first one! I can't take it anymore!

Marvel Smith doesn't belong on this roster. I have hated this bum for the past 4 seasons now. He's slow, fat & lazy. Even during the Super Bowl run his play was terrible.

Go back to the SuperBowl and watch that 3rd & long in the 2nd QTR....where Ben scrambles to his left and stops before the line of scrimmage and tosses it deep to Hines who catches it at the 3 yard line.

During that play focus on #77 Marvel Smith. It's FRIGHTENING really!!!

Umm bike-wreck, appendicitis, SuperBowl karma and we STILL, FUCKING STILL almost made the playoffs (one fucking game mind you). You don't salvage a 4-12 season back to 8-8 on caoching alone, although it helped.

steelcan58
12-16-2007, 04:41 PM
You still haven't explained how we can be loaded with talent when we need to replace or upgrade in at least 5 or 6 starting positions. Our LBs have suddenly gotten old at the same time. Signing Porter to a huge contract at the end of his career WOULD NOT HAVE HELPED MATTERS.

Okay, we are/were not talent laiden then? B-fucking-S.

We have the next coming of Joe Montana at QB; literally when it's all said and done, most likey on the order of the top 4 quarterbacks to EVER play the game. K? 1,000 yard back Willie Parker, not a short yardage back but a difference maker keeping the DBs with eyes into the backfield. A fucking bulldozer FB Kreider still in his prime. A great, but emotional LG who's probably going to Canton even though his play is slipping just a hair. Oh let's see another HOF player in Ward. He has lost two steps, his hands make him a phenomenal possession WR. And Santonio Holmes-- an up and coming speedy WR; an honest deep threat. That's 3 guaranteed Hall-of-Famers and a sieve at LT. Hardly any other teams can boast that much talent (at the skill positions no-less) offensively.

Defensively, we had an aging, pro-Bowl OLB who could still play after losing half a step. Our NT Hampton and SS Troy are the best in the business and will definitely go into Canton. DE Smith is a monster 3-4 end and our top CB is/was all-pro talented but suffering from what seemed like a big head. Hmm two HOFers and a mediocre pass rushing LB core. Seems like enough to me.

Every team has their weak links on each side of the ball. Our guys aren't that much differenet than say Indianapolis. Not every guy can be Dwight Freeney; some have to be Dan Klecko. You can't give Farrior, Foote, Simmions, Starks, Keisel, and Haggans that much shit because as 5 year+ vets they held firm during the tenure of better gameplans. They're not any worse than what the Titans or Browns are fielding for filler players. Asking them to block for 12 second, double move patterns or to cover the middle zones in a Cover2-3 hybrid is alot to ask from them. Smarter coaching from the coordinators would help this group immensley. Conversely, haveing all that talent, we would be a playoff team to be reckoned with.

You're right - I shouldn't shit on Farrior. He has served us well in the past. But it is time for him and us to move on. Haggans and Foote on the other hand both benefited from a great system with a lot of talent around them. There are a lot of players who could have done what they did in that situation.

We do have a lot of talent and at key positions. I think you have overrated some - Ben is no lock for HoF yet and may not even survive to get there if we don't fix our OL.

Will we be a playoff team to be reckoned with? Doesn't look like it this year. Too many weak links to cover. And we aren't physical enough. I don't think that part is bad coaching yet. If he doesn't replace the guys who don't stand up and be counted next season then it is coaching.

Since Buff and Denver lost, I think all we need is Tenn. to lose one of their next two games and we are in, regardless of what we do. I may be wrong, but heading into this weekend, we were in if Den, Buff, and Tenn lost, regardless of what we did.

The Steelers are gonna have to start bringing in some free-agent guys and i mean good free-agent guys. We can not do it with the draft alone. Our misses in past drafts are really hurting us today. Add in the 3rd and 4th round picks from last year and we are in trouble. We need too much to improve this team. I do not think we need to go WR early in the draft. I would prefer rebuilding the core of this team's identity first. We need to go all OL and all defense, taking the best players available with each pick.

I think that has everything to do with the coaching, ESPECIALLY Mr. Mike Tomlin.

If he doesn't replace the guys who don't stand up and be counted next season then it is coaching.

Of course i agree with this whole-heartedly on this. It's just that i see all this goddamned talent we have. And the Patriots, you look at their names, they're not fucking Gods. Moss has been taken out of physical games. Brady tends to fold like a cheap suit if only even one guy gets up in his grill thru a blitz. Wilfork is great, but he's only one man. Maroney too. We could take it too them, but our team is playing more like Tomlin's Pittsburgh Bengals and not the Steelers of old.

Considering the mess we have at O-Line I thought we hung in there. Ben did what he needed to do, he made plays. If we somehow meet up with the Jags again, I think we take em. Our defense has lost its mojo. Without the dominant pass rush, we're gonna get exposed every game.I heard someone mention we should change the defense to tailor it more to what we have on the team and less dependent on non existent pass rush. Some one has to step up. If the current LB's corps is not getting the job done, then make changes. Put Timmons or Woodley in there more in key situations to see if they can provide some pressure.

Marvel played horribly yesterday. There is no denying that, but the truth is he should not have played. When healthy, he is not THAT bad.

I blame Tomlin for yesterday's disaster at LT more than I blame Marvel. Tomlin should have seen prior to the game that Marvel was nowhere near 100% and went with Starks.
