5. Temple vs Uconn 2007- Temple was kicked out of the Big East. This game was played in Connecticut with Big East Refs doing the game. Temple won the game with a last second TD pass with the receivers left foot clearly inbounds. But the Big East can not be embarrassed by losing to a team that they kicked out. So the refs disregarded the call and Uconn stole the game. Big East Refs also you will see are terrible later in this blog but as well as the Wvu Pitt game in 2007. But that game they did not decide the outcome like they did here.

4. Louisville vs Uconn 2007- Louisville is the latest victim of Big East Refs. Uconn get 7 points because of another blown call when a Uconn player was about to return a punt, he waived up his right hand to signal fair catch. Well then afterwards he proceeds to run after the Louiville special teams had stopped, all the way for a TD. Unbelievable that they did not stop the play. Boo Big East Refs!

3. Oregon vs Oklahoma 2006- Oklahoma pretty much got screwed while playing at Oregon. Late in the game Oregon tried an onside and recovered, but an Oregon player had touched the ball before 10 yards. Well the Pac 10 ref didnt see it that way. And they also didnt see that the ball was tipped later in the drive and made a horrific pass interference call giving Oregon the game. 2 game changing calls makes this #3 on the list. Here is the onside kick.

2. Indianapolis Colts vs Pittsburgh Steelers 2005- With Pittsburgh putting the game away with a Troy Polamalu interception Tony Dungy had to throw the flag and hope for a miracle. With everyone in the stadium and watching at home that Pittsburgh just won the game, the ref decided to overturn an obvious interception after the replay. At this point I was convinced he tried to cheat Pittsburgh. I am not a Steelers fan but after that I began rooting hard for them. Earlier in the game the Colts D-line jumped offsides on 4th down but there was no penalty after the refs stopped the game. But they won the game. Still, that was unacceptable. Couldnt find a pic.

1. Oakland vs New England 2001- Oakland was going to the AFC title game if the "tuck" rule was not in play. But even still he did not tuck the ball. Greg Bikert sacked him and he fumbled, and everyone knows it. They went on to win the Superbowl and become a dynasty. But all of this may not have happend if the call wasn't reversed. Bad Call, you can not make the call at that point in that big of a game.

I still can't get over 1998 Thanksgiving screw up over Bettis' call of Tails. And thus the "Luckett Rule" was born.

Vinnie Testaverde, as a Jet was playing in the Meadowlands against Seattle on the last game of the regular season. On one play he scrambled and dove for the end zone. It might have been the last play of the game or of the first half. Anyhow he came up at LEAST a half yard short with his helmet barely touching the end zone and they called a TD. Seattle lost the game and went 8-8 and Dennis Erickson got fired. If they won that game they go to the playoffs and he probably keeps his job.

Guess who called that game, too? Yep - Phil Luckett.

That guy was so bad, he had two rule changes instituted in order to neutralize him.

The Colts also got away with commiting obvious pass interference twice in that playoff game. The one I recall vividly was on a well thrown deep ball by Ben where the Colts' CB essentially tackled Randle El before the ball arrived.

That game was the worst display of one-sided officiating I have ever seen the Steelers fall victim to. With the the way that game went, I was totallty expecting a flag to thrown on McFadden on that huge pass breakup in the endzone.

Phil Luckett is dreadful. I can't believe he still is officiating in the NFL. Guy is a bum!

No 5th down play? I know its been a while but it allowed Colorado to win a national title.

I think the ref's are on the take in certain games. I mean c'mon how many times has instant replay clearly shown the outcome of a play. The fans in the stands see it and know it, the teams on the field see it and know it, the world see's it and know's it, but a dam ref up in the box see's it totally different!

Know that I'm not talking about the questionable rule replays, I'm talking about the blatant obvious one's.

I completely agree on that one. I understand they are human and will make mistakes, but the bottom line is the NFL does not hold them accountable. Fine their asses if a bad call is missed or made. Don't just say well sorry, but you are not able to officiate NFL playoff games.

How about letting Russia take 3 shots at the basket in the olympics against the U.S.?

Definitely one of the worst in basketball history. Right up there with allowing Kenny Andersons basket to count in the NCAA Tournament when the clock was clarly at 0.

A lot are too young to remember that game - I am not. And I am still bitter as hell about the fraudulent ending.

The only person on the floor allowed to stop the game is the referee. He did not stop the clock after Russia inbounded the ball, and threw a desperation 60-footer that was not close. The game was over then. Any other supposed finish is a fraud.

Fucking Russians still pretend that they won that game. If the US Hockey team was given three bullshit penalty shots with 30 seconds left in the 1980 hockey semi-final, and finally cashed in on the last chance, would anybody think that the US had "won" the game??

I'm not saying the NFL has some refs on the take but there is no way on Earth that I would ever bet football again after all the insane game changing calls I've seen.

I love the interpretation of the Polamalu Int by the ref included the phrase: "After the defender caught the ball..." Describing it as a catch, before refuting it was insane officiating. Not only did he have possession on the catch, and roll (while on his back), and not only was on one knee with the ball before knocking it loose gives 3 instances of a legal reception in NFL Rules. If Luckett would have caused the fumble on Bettis on the goal line, I would have known the fix was in. Instead, it just makes me think that Bettis was part of the O'donnell conspiracy!!

The funny thing is if the Colts ended up winning that game, all the Cowher bashers would be out in full force saying how he can't win the big games and how you shouldn't allow to come down to the officials.

I don't think the refs are on the take, but what you refered to is why I could do without instant replay. When replay serves it's purpose, but the ref blows the call regardless, what's the point?

I have seen a lot of bad calls on instant replay, to the point that I wonder about its benefits. The refs on the field who blow the call are human, and are therefore expected to make mistakes.

Is there some divine group of superhumans who are in charge of replay and therefore guaranteed not to make mistakes??

story, please.

I don't know this one....

October 1990, Colorado vs. Missouri.

Charles Johnson was the backup QB and entered the game due to injury. Down late he led a drive deep into Missouri territory. With time winding down, he spiked the ball on first down. 2nd down was a run up the middle that was stuffed, time-out (last one). 3rd down, run up the middle again, stuffed. 4th down, Johnson spiked it. 5th down, QB keeper for a TD.

I think the dial-a-down wasn't changed after the 2nd down run and time-out.

The referees discussed it for an eternity, but the TD ended up standing and Colorado ran the table.

Most recently, the Pitt-West Virginia 2007 Backyard Brawl, where the refs did everything they could to give West Virginia (28 1/2 favorites) the game, yet Pitt still prevailed -- knocking WVU out of the national championship game.

Tennessee 34, Pittsburgh 31 (OT)

Tennessee Titans kicker Joe Nedney missed a field goal attempt from 48 yards on the final play of regulation, and then again from 31 yards in overtime. But a running-into-the-kicker penalty on cornerback Dewayne Washington gave him a third chance, which he took advantage of by making a 26-yarder 2:15 into overtime, giving the Titans a 34-31 playoff victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers.

terrible, terrible call! If there was diving in the NFL, Nedney would have gotten a game misconduct.
