View Full Version : So........can we be a little realistic please?

Today $ucked. Steelers losing always sucks and just flush's all the joy of the weekend down the toilet.
but.....let's be realistic here.
Steelers finished 3rd in the AFC North last year, we had many issues. Some of those issues are still there, the biggest difference between last year and this year has been Big Ben. We all know what happend last year, everyone wanted to see (and all of us knew he'd be back) if he can be the same QB as he was before.
Let's review here shall we....
Last year....
1. OL sucked. It's obvious we need some OL (LT, C and a Guard)
2. Defense was pathetic last year, this year they came back with a fresh attitude and a stronger secondary (mainly because of Ike Taylor's improvment) and they started the year very strong. Our LB'ers are aging, we don't have that dynamic middle LB'er that can take over a game (Harrison has been good here and there) but Steelers need that ONE STUD LB'er that takes charge of the defense. A crusher, a Leader.
hey man my heart says the Steelers will win the Super Bowl every year, but you gotta be a little rational. Tomlin needs a year or two to build this team. We have some great players, One good LB'er and a some decent OL, and Roethlisberger can take any team in the NFL to the shredder.
I don't know about you, but i'd be happy as hell if the Steelers make it to the playoffs. I'll be ecstatic if they make some damage and get lucky here and there.
Tomlin is in his first year, give him a break. Dispite this lousy dark day, the Steelers future is bright.
with that being said here's a big F**** you to Marvel Smith, Mahan, and the rest of the defense. They shouldn't be giving pay-checks this week.

You are way too well adjusted. You should be cursing the day LarryZierlein and Mike Tomlin were born and wishing an IRS audit on Clark Haggans and Nick Easons parents.
Seriously though, most level headed fans should have expected a season somewhere around 10-6 with a chance at 11-5. Anyone that (not hoped for) something more should really blame themselves for nor having realistic expectations. Last year we all knew our weaknesses were the Oline and front seven with our LBs being the most dire problem. In the draft we picked up future starters at ILB and OLB. This year they will address the Oline and DLine. If they don't address these needs I will have a problem with the new regime but until then Tomlin is alright with me.

I expect a Steeler defense to NOT give up 224 yards rushing.
That is all.

no argument here. Hell I don't expect any defense to give that up.

We're one and done in the playoffs this year....especially if we draw Jax again. On the plus side, any success we should have in the postseason would be a bonus, in my opinion.

We need to develop an identity. What happened to Blitzburgh, the intimidating defense, can't run on the Steelers. What happened to a dominate O-Line, smash mouth football, and would cram in down your throut if it was 3rd and 2? We have lost our identity.

I am happy to see there is still optimism that we will make the playoffs.

I was thinking that same thing watching that game today. One thing every team needs is an identity you don't have to be the biggest bully on the block (although it is nice) but you do have to be something.

Our team has lost some important pieces the last couple years and our linebackers seem to have gotten old fast. Teams adjust to schemes and maybe they've figured out what we've been doing. At some point you have to try plan b. You can't run the ball up the gut and dominate TOP with a line that can't block a paraplegic. I hoped for ten or eleven wins and the playoffs before the season. We can accomplish both, it's just been an awful up and down year.

If we get the Jags on a good weather day, we might stand a chance. I really think Ben struggles more than most QB's when the weather is a factor. He always seems to be too worried about his damn gloves and how wet they are. He struggled against Cincy until the weather stopped as well. IMHO

I don't think good weather is going to help our OL or our terrible front 7.

If our defense could tackle we win that game today. Tackling isn't a scheme issue.

Realistic? On this board. Are you kiddin me we have to fire all the coaches and defense players. Then we are going to the super bowl. Because a team going to the playoffs and not winning the championship is the worst team in football. Everyone knows that

No shit. They need to learn or re-learn that you actually need to wrap someone up in order to tackle them.

uh huh.......point taken.
i'm sure no one (myself included) thought the Steelers would win the Super Bowl a couple of seasons ago.
especially when Cincy came to town and beat down the Steelers with HoushYorMamma cleaning his cleats with the terrible towel........we all know how that turned out.
I highly DOUBT we'll make it to the Super Bowl, but Jax? the defense played the worst game of the season yet and Steelers came back and almost stole the victory.
never say never.
the chances of us seen Jax in the first round of playoffs is pretty good and i'll bet you the outcome will be different. But.....that's just a gut feeling.

I don't see how the outcome would be different. Their DL absolutely manhandled our OL. Their OL did the same to our DL. If not for Ben's ability to escape I doubt we score.
Unless they get injured I highly doubt we beat this team. Remember they were built originally to beat us as they were in the same division a few years ago. They have always given us a hard time.

Believe that if you want.....but I'll stay realistic. Getting punked on both sides of the line of scrimmage is no accident. Give me ONE reason to think they wouldn't do that again. Just one.
CAN they win in the playoffs? Of course....anything can happen any day. The odds of it happening with our current line play are slim, however.

i can see the steelers playing with any team even with the shitty o-line.i also believe aaron smith being out today hurt the defence more than we ever thought.will they win the superbowl probaly not but one thing is for sure i will be with them rooting until the scoreboard shows us behind with 0:00 on the clock, then start counting down until until camp starts in 08

Not when you are the #1 defense in the NFL. Brady had a career day vs our pass defense and now the Jags rush for 200+ on our defense.

It might just be me, but on the Jags opening drive of the 3rd quarter, it looked like the defense wanted to be back in the locker room. It's like they were hoping Jax would score so the could go put on their warm coats. This D has a lot of soul searching to do before Thursday.

Getting manhandled on the line on scrimmage, offensively AND defensively, goes way past disappointing.
It's downright disturbing.
Realistically, to coin a phrase, this team has not played a good, complete game in a month. Their confidence is shaken to say the least. At his point I don't think you can say a win in St. Louis is a gimme. And you know that Ravens are looking at the season-ender as their Super Bowl, especially after losing to Miami.
Tomlin looked lost on the sideline in the 4th quarter. Not saying he doesn't belong but that look was unsettling.

I feel like Darth Vader standing on the deck watching the Millennium falcon (our Playoff chances) jump into hyperdrive right before he could catch them. I just looked at my tv and walked away shaking my head just like Darth Vader did. Just win the next two games and get the Defense fixed is all I can say today.
