The Steelers have signed inside linebacker Larry Foote to a three-year, $9.3 million deal, bringing the veteran back to Pittsburgh following a one-season stint in Detroit.
Foote, a starter for the Steelers from 2004-08, will provide depth at inside linebacker. He said he signed with the Steelers so he can again play for a winning team.
Foote signed a one-year deal with Detroit last May but the Lions went 2-14, spoiling his return to his hometown team. Foote won a pair of Super Bowls with the Steelers and prior to that played for a winning program at Michigan.
"You can't really explain it until you go through it," Foote said on the losing he endured last season. "You talk about dog days. Those were dog days."
Foote visited the Washington Redskins and Arizona Cardinals before signing with the Steelers. He returns less than a year after requesting his release from the team.
"It's something I didn't think was going to happen," Foote said. "I'm still in shock. I'm glad to be back."
