Back in the time when the Pittsburgh Steelers called Three Rivers Stadium home, their executive offices were on the ground level of the building, behind two big, heavy, carved wooden doors. Of those doors it was often said: They open out; they don’t revolve.
The meaning, of course, being that those who chose to leave were not invited back.
Today those doors are gone, and so, too, is that sentiment.
During the first 10 days of this free agency period, the Steelers have been unusually active, with Monday’s signing marking the fifth veteran addition. And if five doesn’t sound like a big number, remember that in 2008 the Steelers signed just two veteran free agents – Mewelde Moore and Justin Hartwig – and in 2009 they signed none.

The Steelers have signed inside linebacker Larry Foote to a three-year, $9.3 million deal, bringing the veteran back to Pittsburgh following a one-season stint in Detroit.

After visiting the Miami Dolphins, free agent safety Ryan Clark has re-signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers according to a league source.
Clark met with the Dolphins' brass Sunday and today, but we've been told he has agreed to terms with Pittsburgh.
According to a source, Clark's deal has a total value in the neighborhood of $17 million with at least $5 million of that figure to be paid during the first year of a four-year contract.
Clark is one of the most destructive hitters in the league.
His shot on Baltimore Ravens running back Willis McGahee in the AFC championship game two years ago caused McGahee to be carted off the field and hospitalized overnight.
Ultimately, his return to Pittsburgh is what he wanted most of all.
