Statement by Steelers President Art Rooney, II
Thank you for being here.
Let me start with an update of Ben Roethlisberger’s situation.
As you know, on Tuesday Ben met with Commissioner Goodell in New York. Since then I have talked with the Commissioner about his review of this matter. As far as the timing of any disciplinary action, the Commissioner has told me he would like to take at least a couple weeks to review this matter. So, I don’t expect we will be announcing any final decisions until the week after the draft, at the earliest.
Next, I want to say that I have informed the Commissioner that the Pittsburgh Steelers are prepared to take disciplinary action at this point. However, I want to make clear that any discipline will be agreed to and coordinated between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Commissioner. In other words, there will not be two separate decisions on discipline.

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. -- Ben Roethlisberger will not face a rape charge in connection with an incident at a Georgia nightclub last month, but that didn't spare him from a nationally televised scolding by the local district attorney who Monday advised the Steelers' quarterback to "grow up."
Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit District Attorney Fredric D. Bright said he would not pursue charges against Mr. Roethlisberger because the allegation, made by a 20-year-old woman after a night of drinking with the quarterback, "cannot be proven beyond a reasonable doubt."
"Everybody could be criticized for their actions that night. I'm not condoning what he did," Mr. Bright said. "There was too much drinking going on. If he were my son, [I would say], 'Ben, grow up. Come on, you're supposed to stand for something. I mean, you're a leader, you should be a role model. You don't need to put yourself in this position anymore."

The Pittsburgh Steelers have earned more negative press than any NFL team in recent weeks, and that didn't sit well with ownership or the team's front office.
Therefore, it was a matter of time before someone took the fall, and that player turned out to be receiver Santonio Holmes.
The Steelers traded the former Super Bowl MVP to the New York Jets for a fifth-round pick, according to ESPN.com's John Clayton. Yes, the Jets fleeced the Steelers by giving up a late-round pick for a very good receiver. But it's clear this move had more to do with off-the-field behavior than on-the-field performance for Pittsburgh.
Holmes was on track to become Pittsburgh's No. 1 receiver before recent incidents put him in the doghouse with the Steelers' brass. He was suspended by the team during the 2008 season for being caught with marijuana in his vehicle. Holmes also admitted to selling drugs as a youth before Super Bowl XLIII, in addition to facing recent allegations from a woman who claimed a drink was thrown at her.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger reportedly will not be charged after an investigation into accusations of sexual assault by a 20-year-old Georgia woman in Milledgeville, Ga. That's a huge relief for Roethlisberger and the Steelers' organization. But it doesn't mean the 28-year-old quarterback won't face significant hurdles.
Here is a look at issues Roethlisberger and the Steelers must deal with:
1. A meeting with the commissioner
Expect NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, who expressed concerns regarding Roethlisberger at last month's owners meetings, to meet with the quarterback in New York soon. Even though no charges will be filed, the commissioner can suspend Roethlisberger for violating the NFL Personal Conduct Policy. It was the second time in a year that Roethlisberger has been accused of sexual misconduct. He also faces a civil lawsuit filed by a Nevada woman who says he raped her in 2008, an allegation Roethlisberger denies.

If the goal is to have an offensive line that is tough and resilient in the face of adversity, one that is versatile and willing to work through whatever might come its way to get the job done, and if you believe that a unit is an extension of its position coach, then Sean Kugler is the man for the job.
The job in question is offensive line coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the job came open last January because Mike Tomlin wasn’t satisfied. In the NFL, when that’s the case, changes are made.
During Tomlin’s three seasons as the Steelers’ coach so far, the team has ranked third, 23rd and 19th in the NFL in rushing, and the quarterbacks were sacked 47, 49 and 50 times. When the team missed the playoffs one year after winning the sixth Super Bowl championship in franchise history, Tomlin took action to address the situation.
