Two players Signed. Punter and Wide Receiver

Per the Steelers official site, the Steelers signed a punter and a wide receiver. Wide receiver is expected, does not mean much unless he shines. Signing a punter seems odd given who we have.

Steelers Sign Two To Offseason Roster

PITTSBURGH ─ The Steelers added depth to their offseason roster by signing punter Adam Graessle and wide receiver Brandon London, it was announced today.

Graessle (6-4, 225) was signed by the Green Bay Packers as an undrafted rookie free agent out of the University of Pittsburgh in 2009, but was released prior to training camp. He was then signed to the California Redwoods of the United Football League (UFL) for the 2009 season.

London (6-4, 215) was originally signed by the New York Giants as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Massachusetts in 2007. He spent the 2007 season on the Giants’ practice squad and was released prior to the 2008 season. London was then claimed by the Miami Dolphins on Aug. 31, 2008, and appeared in 14 games (one start) with three catches for 30 yards. He was released by the Dolphins prior to the 2009 season.

I believe Sep is a RFA so this guy is insurance when the line starts to form to get RoboPunter.

Sepulveda sucks. Big disappointment I wouldn't waste the money on him.

Sep doesn't suck - he is an average NFL punter whose production could have been matched by a vet minimum or UDFA. Not his fault some moron in the FO used 2 picks to acquire him. The 3,4,6 of Speath and Sep will live in infamy. I actually turned the draft off when the trade was announced in the 4th and they took a freaking punter. After just spending their 3rd on a career best b/u TE with a 5th round grade.

give him better coverage players and ppl that can tackle, on many ocassions on the punbting unit he was the bet player, I think he made like 5 or 6 tackles.

I'm fine with Sep. He doesn't boom punts, but he's fairly consistant and is decent at placement.

People that say he sucks have a short memory of what we had to replace him when he got hurt.

We won the SB w/o him. P's are meaningless.

Graessle was used as a kickoff specialist at Pitt.

I don't have a short term memory. You probably should go and look up Berger's stats from this season and do some comparisons to see if Sepulveda is the savior many of us thought he would be. He certainly is not worth the picks we gave up to draft him and he certainly is not worth resigning if he and his agents balk at 1st contract offer.

I won't go as far as saying that, but I get what you're saying. Sepulveda is a huge disappointment, its most certainly an area that we can improve.

So you'd rather have Berger back?

Can't change what we did to get him, but he certainly doesn't SUCK. Plus, he's one of the better ones at dropping it inside the 20.

I do agree he's not worth a contract squabble, but he's adequate for now. Besides, who's out there?

Seps was 22nd last season at 42.7 and his career average is 42.5.

There were 30 college punters last season who averaged over 42.7. Figure 30 punters X 10 years and there are roughly HUNDREDS of guys out there who would not cost picks who can kick it 42.7 yards.

Heinz field and the entire AFC North is not exactly the most favorable places to punt, either. Sure he could have had a better average, but for the most part he was good. He certainly did not suck though. Do you guys forget Mitch Berger? Or how about the time Ben had to make a punt?

I wish we didnt give so much to sign the guy, but we did. At least he can tackle! Maybe this new guy will push competition and we find a nice addition.

Well, if we wait 2 years and draft UGA's kicker and punter (who are close to the best at thier positions) then everyone can quit bitching about our kickers.

I still say Sep is fine.

    2009 Sep vs. Berger:

Sep averaged 42.7 per kick, 37.1 net and had 40% inside the 20.

Berger averaged 42 per kick, 37.9 net and has 25% inside the 20.

Even if you discount Berger in 2009 for kicking in Denver, in 2008 with us he:

Averaged 41..3 per kick, 37.7 net and had 29% inside the 20.

Basically Sep averaged about 3 feet more per kick and had a few more inside the 20.

Sep doesn`t boom punts, but that`s what he was drafted to do. Otherwise there was no need to draft him, let alone give up picks. I will say that he was better in 2009 than in 2007.

I guess there`s always the possibility that he`s been instructed not to outkick the coverage. But again, why did we need to draft him then?

yes, lets judge our punter by his avg and totally forget where he punted most of the time. if he is placing 40% inside the 20, also add in his touchbacks, nearly HALF of his punts are right around the 40-50 yard line range. you don't WANT your punter to boom punts there. also, whoever brought up the college stat to compare to Seps NFL stats is a MORON! two completely different footballs when it comes to kicking, go ahead and look up Seps college stats if you don't believe me. lets also not take into account his knee injury, don't give him a full year to heal from it, and just boot him out the door... bet you're the same group of people that want Reed gone too right?

This is my favorite all-time defense of Sep. His leg is so strong (how strong is it?) that he pooch punts every kick and still averaged 42.7.

So, our offensive line is getting our franchise QB killed, our DL and ILB are getting old and our DB's can't cover anyone much less make a tackle, and you guys want a new punter to replace a more than adequate one? I'm confused.
