I don't see a safety in round 1 after just signing 2. Thomas will be gone and so will Berry. Mays may be there but he has bust potential(bad ball skills and afraid to hit). I would love to land Mccourty in round 2.
My mock draft.
In a draft, I prefer to match value with needs in rounds one two or three. Reaching for a need player gets you Troy Edwards. In a perfect world, the value of the player and the need match.
Having said that, here is my first mock draft.
Round One. Safety Thomas. A glaring weakness of the Steelers was pass defense in the secondary, and inability to create interceptions. With our pass rush, our DB's should be intercepting more passes. Outside of Polamalu, our DB's seem lost tracking down deep passes. Some of our DB's are too slow. Others have hands of stone. Others lacked the smarts and instincts to put themselves in position to make plays. Thomas offers very good speed, range, instincts, and hands. He hits well, and should prove to be a difference maker after he gets acclimated to the NFL. Thomas has a chance to become an Ed Reed Type of player.
Round Two CB MCCourty. The Steelers cannot afford to roll William Gay out as the starter. Townsend has been a solid player for us for years, but he has lost a step, and he was never that fast to begin with. Neither of our rookie Db's last year showed enough to make me feel comfortable about the future of this position. McCourty has good ability across the board and should become a solid #2 starting corner in time. He is perhaps the best defensive special teams player in this draft as well.
Round Three. ILB Angerer. Farroir is too old and has become a major liability. Angerer is a bit like Zack Thomas. He's very active vs the run and pass, hits well, and has excellent speed. He's a tad on the short side, but that's ok at ILB. A football player.
Round Four C Walton. Walton is big, strong enough to get a push in the running game, is smart, and has some short area quickness. Hartwig is rather poor as a starter.
Round Five OT Brown. Our depth at tackle is scary. A development project.
Round Five, comp pick DL Joseph. A big man who made a lot of plays. He's still raw, but the value here makes sense.
Round six FB Conner. A power blocker, similar to Dan Kreider. Can run and catch well, but he's best stuff is creating holes.
Round six, comp pick OLB Galette. a small school 3-4 project with good upside who needs to grow up a bit. Worth the gamble.
Round seven. QB Hiller. Insurance in case Batch goes down.
Round seven, comp pick OG/C Matthews. Son of hall of famer Bruce Matthews who used to hate the Steelers :).
I don't see a safety in round 1 after just signing 2. Thomas will be gone and so will Berry. Mays may be there but he has bust potential(bad ball skills and afraid to hit). I would love to land Mccourty in round 2.
McCourty will not last until the middle of Rd 2 unless some issues pop up with him between now and the draft
Taylor Mays afraid to hit? HAHA That kid is a freight train on the field!
Taylor Mays is Louis Oliver all over again,
I've seen many highlights of Mays wiffing on tackles and doing alot of grab assing
Mays doesn't fit the Steelers at all. They need a smart, instinctual safety to compensate for Polamalu's insanity, and Mays is not that.
here is mine
rnd 1 ILB Mclain, get a good solid vocal player, god tacker immediatle upgrade over Farrior
rnd 2 CB Kareem Jackson, good sized CB can break up plays, is known for breaking up plays something aside from Polamalu & at times Clark our DB's dont know. eventually replaces IKE
rnd 3 C Matt Tenant good sized C physical player a good apperiant for Hartwig
rnd 4 SS Myron Rolle, good coverage S, will Allen is just a stop gap wont be around long, could contrbute on ST and slowly become Troy's back up while Mundy will strictly be Clark's back up
rnd 5 OT Ed Wang athlethic LT project should push Hills.
rnd 5 NT Kade Watson well built NT needs 2 years as a back up before making a push
rnd 6 OT/OG Kyle Jolly project who like Foster could be tried at eithier side or moved inside
rnd 7 DE
Mays is very poor in coverage. I do not want him in round one at all.

I'm a michigan fan but they dont have what we need, Warren may be a good pick but I think Jackson is what we need.
