The list was mostly draft picks. On my list I'd have letting Rod Woodson go somewhere on it, one of those things that didn't look like a bad idea at the time. Why no one at the Steelers didn't think to move him to safety where he played at a high level for many years to come, I'll never know.

Possibly. He was a good fit here but immediately [FILTH] the bed with the Jets and never came close to duplicating his success.

If I remember right, the Steelers offered him a 3yr deal but he thought he could get more in FA. He eventually signed with the 49'ers for 1 year at less money than the Steelers offered him. I could be wrong.

Why doesn't anyone ever discuss why all the other teams passed on Marino too? Todd F'N Blackledge was drafted ahead of him, but apparently only the Steelers were blind to what Marino was going to turn into.

They did, but he refused because he considered it a slap in the face.

People don't remember the Rod Woodson saga, but I do, mainly because I had a deep emotional man crush on him. When Woodson's contract was up, they wanted him to move to strong safety and sign a contract that would have made him the highest paid in the league. Despite that, Rod thought he was worth more money and could get it elsewhere. Donahoe told him that if thought he could get more money somewhere else, then by God, go get it.

So Rod walked and held workouts for a number of teams. Problem was NO ONE offered him a contract. Nothing. Not one dime. So Rod came back to Pittsburgh and wanted to sign the contract. Donhoe yanked it off the table and said that Rod set his own market value at zero and that if he wanted to sign a contract he was going to sign for much less than the original offer. Rod got pissed, called Pittsburgh a racist town and left. He finally got a next to nothing, one year contract in San Francisco which wasn't renewed. He then found himself in Baltimore where he,,,moved to safety.

    #1 is losing woodson.

#2 doesn't make sense. Our second worst personnel move is a move that never happened?

Also they reference us not having a qb. Sounds like this article was written in 2000.

I remember the Woodson fiasco as well. I still blame Donahoe for that [FILTH]. I still believe the [FILTH]er road the coattails of the people working for him, IE: Modrak and others. Once they left for other jobs, we got to see exactly what a piece of [FILTH] Donahoe was. Thank god he left for Buffalo and look what he did to that team.

Dummaho was a tool, and his ego got in the way of his business sense. Rod had a pretty decent year in San Fran at corner if I remember correctly, then he did in fact move to safety where he did well for years to come. Had Dummaho given him the contract, he'd have done all that here in Pitt.

Dummaho is the reason Kearse never wore the black and gold, and instead we got Troy effing Edwards. Combine that with the Woodson story, and you have the exact reason I'm glad to see him screwing up the Bills instead of our team now.

Because he was a homegrown prospect.

I remember on the old old old X10 board during the late 90s very few people like Dumahoe. I couldn't stand him because of his insane draft picks and not re-signing Woodson. Anybody that would move up and draft Scott Shields needs to be fired. And that isn't even the tip of the iceberg when it comes to horrible draft picks by that moron.

He was a homegrown prospect with some pretty nasty rumors going around about a cocaine problem. Plus, after the Heisman trophy was pretty much handed to him before he started his senior year and he pissed it away, he got a reputation as someone that couldn't perform under pressure.

People talk like he was the hottest college prospect that year and the Steelers had the 1:1 pick. 26 teams passed on him and some of them desperately needed a QB. As I said, Tony Eason and Todd Blackledge were drafted ahead of him. Mario wasn't even drafted to start in Miami, he was drafted for depth as Shula thought David Woodley was their future.

No one saw Marino coming and it's dumb for people to harp on the idea that the Steelers were stupid for not taking him. They didn't take Tom Brady either - are they stupid for that too?

I think Kent Graham should be on this list. I'm not sure how anyone in the Steelers FO could watch any game tape on him and think he could play NFL in this league.

Any move Dummahoe made should have been at the top of the list. That [FILTH]er still erks the [FILTH] out of me to this day as he was such a dumbass. Thank god Cowher had a power struggle with him or we could have still been stuck with his ass and NOT had two more trophies!

Didn't Pittsburgh trade out of their spot with Dallas and then Dallas selected Emmitt Smith? That was a pretty boneheaded move although I'm not sure who they got at Dallas' position.

Yeah thats how I remember it as well. Didn't he want to come back after the 49ers stint and Donahoe said he wasn't running a salvation army? Quite possibly the dumbest decision ever and we had to endure our beloved Rod playing for the Ravens for the next 5 years or how ever long it was.

Yep passed on Kearse for 5-6 Edwards. I think he was canned by the Bills many years ago though.

What people forget about Marino is that he was awful in his senior season, throwing for 17 touchdowns and 23 interceptions. There's a reason why everybody passed on him.
