Thread: Tyler Grisham... The next Wes Walker?

Default Tyler Grisham... The next Wes Walker?

    .
Ok, I know he's probably not going to be the next Wes Walker but he looked good in camp the day I was there and seems to have had a very solid camp by all accounts. He probably has the best change of direction and speed coming out of his breaks on the team (with the possible exception of Logan). His route running has improved tremendously.

Here's a quote from an article today in the Tribune:

"WR Tyler Grisham continued his solid training camp, making several nice catches during yesterday's afternoon practice"

My question... Does this kid have any chance of making the 53 man roster come September?

He might even be the next Wes Welker.

If he produces in pre-season. They seem to be giving him opportunities in camp to prove himself.

It's tough to see him making the club with the numbers being what they are. Ward, Wallace, El, and Sanders are all locks. It's going to be Battle, Brown, Logan and Grisham battling it out for 1 at most 2 spots. Considering that he doesn't do returns, I don't see how he makes it.

has to have a monster pre season or be very clutch with the 3rd team and hope that Antonio Brown looks like crap, Brown has very good leaping ability for a 5`10 WR plus he wasa dynamic returner in college and is expected to press for the KR & PR duties.

I think the only reason Logan made the team last year was for that one game he took 1 (or was it 2) to the house. W/O that I dont think he would have made the team. For TG to make it, I think he going to need something so flashy that we can afford not to find a place for him on our team.

No. I like the kid's heart. I got to see him play at Clemson a lot. One game against
Virginia Tech in college where Va Tech's defense made CJ Spiller and James Davis
tap out. This kid Grisham took every shot Va Tech gave him and he kept getting up.
I think he may get caught in the numbers game too. He may be a practice squadder
    unless Brown underperforms.

I'm pulling for him, but I don't see how he makes it. Too many good WR's in front of him.

Why is it that every white WR that comes along now is the next Wes Welker?

I think they have 7 NFL caliber WR's. I would include Grisham in that group along with Ward, Wallace, Randle El, Sanders, Battle & Brown. I still doubt Grisham makes the team since he's strictly a WR. Sanders, Brown & Randle El all have return skills and Battle is a good special teamer.

How many top tier white receivers are there in the NFL? Not too many....

If he's potentially a top tier WR then he should have his attributes compared to all other WRs, not just the white ones. His race shouldn't matter. You don't go comparing white OLmen to other white OLinemen. You compare their skill sets to all other OLinemen. The same should apply for any position.

Grisham really is not that good and shouldn't even make the roster let alone be mentioned in the same sentence as Wes Welker.

Thats the way it should be viewed but unfortunately it appears to be by race at certain positions. WR,RB, and QB. How many times have you heard over the years that a black QB can't be sucessful in the NFL? Or the white boy is too slow to be WR?

I'm not one to condone that way of thinking but unfortunaely those stereotypes exist in peoples minds even in today's NFl>

Try ZERO, Logan had NO returns for touch downs. Punt or Kick off returns = no touch downs

In preseason, to even make the team initially. He did run 1 or 2 back and had a preety nice averge of like 28 yards i think. He earned his spot on the team IMHO. I believe with all these rookies, it's going to be a battle for him to remain with the Steelers this season

He has been battling the odds since his birth. I will personally never count him out. And I'm rooting for him to earn a spot again. May the best man get a spot.

Your problem is with the ESPMZ, NFL Network, NFL sports writers & bloggers and the many different Sports talk show hosts making those comparison comments about "The next Wes Welker". Plus don't forget the listeners that can't think for themselves and continue to repeat this comparison.

He had a good camp last year as well, and even got into a game. I do believe it will be very difficult for him to make the team, but I like the kid and think he has some potential. Even w/ a surprise cut at WR I still think it would be hard for him to sneak in.

Wes Welker? I hope he becomes the next Heath Miller, and I'd be happy.
