Besides the Jailbird Rookie NT, who else is on the roster at nose tackle? If they lose McClendon, they will regret that. They are gonna give other back-ups a chance to start and step up, why wouldn't you give McClendon that chance, as well? Ugh!

How far under the salary cap are the Packers and if they made McClendon and offer, what are the odds the Steelers would be able to match?

  5. #5
Well there are only two days left. But if the Packers and McClendon make a deal, the Steelers won't be able to match unless they restructure Troy or release someone. We don't get the Colon cap adjustment until June.

Green Bay will also not have to give up a pick.

We also have Fanguopo whom we got off waivers from Seattle and I guess we really liked. At this point we should just trade down in rounds 1 and 2 to get extra picks. We need f'n players that are cheap.

He should have received the first round tender, period. They knew Hamp wasn't coming back, and McClendon played really well.

Hey, maybe Joel Steed is available!

They can still look at the contracts of Heath Miller, Ike Taylor, and Troy Polamalu. They are only 30, 31, and 32. All will be one year older going into their final season. I could easily see them working an extension with Heath, adding a couple seasons at his same salary, and turning some salary into signing bonus.

I just don't get Colberts logic in all of this. The new CBA offers this second round restricted free agent tag for 2.023 million and he isn't using it for 700k???? I'd offered all McLendon, Sanders, and Dwyer the second round tender. At the very least McLendon who you NEED to keep and at the 1.323 million tender you get no compensation. So Colbert cost us 500k or a 3rd round pick with Sanders so lets see how this eff up screws us over!

Like who didnt see this coming? I posted it as soon as Sanders was matched. Lose mclendon, then you have another draft pick to use on someone. Or sign him get in worse cap shape. Horrible offseason.

There isn't any. He and Tomlin are clueless. The Steelers that Cowher built that went to three SBs and won two are out of gas. We now have the Steelers that Tomlin and Colbert built. There isn't a plan. There isn't logic. There is no player development. And when the few decent picks they've made reach the ends of their first contracts, they bolt. With the nucleus this team had, and with a true franchise QB, this team should have rolled the league and had at least 4 more Lombardis. It faltered from lack of leadership. And unless that changes, it'll become Kansas City. We don't play Steeler football. The Niners and Seahawks play Steeler football. The Rooneys are more interested in currying favor in the White House that maintaining the fan base.

I didn't understand why they didn't play him more last year. I didn't understand why they didn't offer him a tender. I think our current HC and GM are a cluster****!!! I never bought into the "cowher's players" arguement, but I am now about to jump on board. It really seems that the Steelers don't have a plan, actually it's almost as bad as 85.

My bet is they knew what they had in McClendon after the pre-season. They had Big Snack for the year and thought they could "stash" talent on the sidelines in the hopes of carrying him into 2013 without to much fanfare...it didn't work.

Stevie Wonder could have seen this coming.

I think McLendon is a good player but it wouldn't be the end of the world if he left.

Agreeing with what has been said.I sure as hell could not blame him for signing,I am sure he thought he was going to start last year as well. This one could hurt, plus the fact i was really looking forward to what he will do in a starting roll for a full season.

  18. #18
Well, I agree with the tender offer to Sanders cause it came at gain of a 3rd rounder. I didnt like the tender of McClendon, because it gets you nothing in return and I knew a team or two would come after him and he is a starter. Redman, who cares.Losing McClendon costs you a starter and impacts heavily your draft board and needs. Maybe they can bring back Snack but how good is he now and how long will he last in a game much less a season? The McClendon move was dumb, unless they arent really interested in keeping him afterall. Which means they are targeting a NT early anyway.

I thought for sure that the Sith Lord Hoodie would have been the first Coach to make a phone call to McClendon. I just hope he's just visiting Green Bay just to get out the house for a few hours.

Love McClendon but I consider him best suited in a 4-3 as a DT. Dude can create pressure almost at will and when we need push up the middle on D he can do it.
