The Pittsburgh Steelers just finished up their training camp practices in Latrobe on Thursday. It was a solid several weeks for the Steelers as they enter into their second preseason action on Saturday night against the Jacksonville Jaguars. That being said, a non-football related story broke just a couple of days ago and it’s since been disputed by people closer to the situation.
Steelers Intense HC Mike Tomlin Stops Local Kids Fighting In Street; Invites Group To 2022 Training Camp
The original tweet of the story that broke was brought to everyone else by Fox Sports‘ inside Jay Glazer. Glazer stated that he saw a group kids fighting before Steelers Head Coach Mike Tomlin pulled them over and had the participate in a footwork drill. Here’s Glazer’s original tweet for full context.
“Best thing/story I’ve seen so far on my camp tour. A little backstory. @CoachTomlin was driving in his car when he saw these kids fighting in the street. Tomlin pulls over and the kids, in obvious shock at who stepped out of the car, stopped fighting.”

Glazer tweet is still up despite the origin of the story being disputed by former Steelers’ linebacker Joey Porter‘s wife via Facebook. Porter’s wife, Christy Houston Porter posted this on the popular social media platform defending the kids mentioned in Glazer’s story.
“What a d*** shame,” Porter exclaimed in her facebook post. “People will say anything to sell a story. Character assassination will not be tolerated. These young kids were rewarded with attending Steelers Training Camp for being model students and outstanding community members.
Coach Tomlin has a relationship with these kids from the Jasmine Nyree Campus, not from a fight in the streets. Jay Glazer has 24 hours to remove this story or my attorney will be contacting him.”
This was posted the next day following Glazer’s story and he has yet to remove the story from his Twitter account. 93.7 The Fan‘s Morning Show host, Colin Dunlap shared a photo of the post via Twitter.

Look, Coach Tomlin is a very inspiring guy, who is notorious for being a “leader of men.” The relationships come first for him and that’s what has made him such a successful NFL head coach.
It’s an inspiring story, but one that appears to not be true. Glazer could be facing potential legal action because of it. Porter’s wife posted once again on Facebook to dispute Glazer’s claims with an attached video.
“Does it look like they are fighting in the streets to any of you,” Porter questioned via the post. “Coach Tomlin has been a fixture in the Sheraden Community with the kids at The Jasmine Campus since 2020.After this particular visit to The Jasmine Nyree Campus, he invited the kids to Steelers Training Camp.”
The Jasmine Nyree Campus was started last summer by the Porter family, as they were inspired by their daughter, Jasmine Nyree Porter, who lives with special needs. Porter went to bat for her kids that attend the community center. As you can see in the photo above, Tomlin already had close ties to the center, attending the grand opening in June of 2021. Porter went to bat for the kids she works with, who were painted in a bad light by Glazer. She took a stance for what is right! As a teacher myself, I’m so glad she stood up for her kids!
