DirecTV's deal for the Sunday Ticket ends when this season is over. In fact I believe the league is about to announce which streaming service will take over coverage starting next season.
Rudolph had two nice runs vs. the Lions, 28 and 13 yards. I heard Wexell say that on one of them he - Mason, not Jim - lowered his shoulder and knocked out a Lions defender. He's far from immobile.
Wexell pointed out that, in 16 years, Tomlin has never had a coach go on to an appreciably better job. I was pretty stunned to hear that.
BTW: Here's the link for Wexell's appearance on Savran on Sports on Wednesday...
I heard the entire interview. "Wex" always has good takes. First, he "modified" his earlier opinion re Rudolph emerging as the starter.
But..he says there's little chance they'll trade him because Tomlin & Co. value him as an experienced backup. (And his salary isn't a big deal.) He believes...
Jim Wexell, the longtime Steelers beat writer, will be on Stan Savran's ESPN 970 show at 1:20 p.m. today and likely will address this subject.
In fact, Jim has written that Rudolph may well be the starter for Game 1. His reasons why are interesting. He's always worth a listen.
I'd like that. And how 'bout grabbing D'Eriq King on Saturday? They could develop him the way the Eagles did with Greg Ward. The offense could use some Randle El-esque pizzazz.
Let's pump the brakes a bit on Trubisky. He was viewed as a nothing but a bust when he was with the Bears.
But now that he's a Steeler, there's a lot of sentiment that he's a fountain of untapped talent.
I'm skeptical. In fact I think it's very possible that Rudolph will beat him out. We'll see.
He definitely has trade value, but how much is still unclear at this point.
As for possible or probable suspension by the league: One reason the Texans didn't play him is speculation that they hope it could go toward "time served." That could make a trade easier to pull off.
