Steelers Depot is beginning to provide its yearly scouting reports on draft prospects. I figured its an excellent way for some who do not have the time to investigate prospects to get a good idea of the player before the draft. I don't always agree with Steelers Depot, but I love the work those guys put in for scouting draft prospects.

Below is a list of the first few of reports done so far, and people can post the links as they are released.

TE- Hunter Henry, Arkansas

CB- Eli Apple, Ohio State

WR- Laquon Treadwell, Ole Miss

OLB- Dadi Nicolas, Virginia Tech

While the following isn't a true scouting report, it's an excellent article on S Kevin Byard, Mid-Tenn St. a prospect whom I really like this year, and he's a Steelers fan.

CB- Kendall Fuller, Virginia Tech

Outside of Treadwell (which isn't a need)

I am thinking this list doesn't have round 1 value.

I would be ok with Apple in 2 or Henry

Other than Noah Spence (Depending on if the Steelers are comfortable he's moved on from his past), and maybe Hargreaves if he were to magically fall, I'm struggling to find anyone I like at 25, all the more reason to trade down I guess, which I'd be perfectly fine with if not advocate to do so.

yeah I am thinking it might be someone falls, but I like Spence's potential.

Also with so much D-line talent slated for 1.

Someone might be too attractive not to pull the trigger in one.

I agree about the talent along the D-Line in this draft and there are a few I'd be willing to take in the first 3 rounds, but I just hate to take a D-Lineman at 25 for a role that will only be rotational (at least at first) to spell Tuitt, Heyward, and Mclendon.

If these reviews are even close, the only potential first round pick I would go with is Henry. If Apple and Fuller are barely 2nd round material, no way I reach for them in the first. Take a guy that can instantly improve the team in Henry.

With that said, I am still hoping there is a first round talent that we can grab to improve the secondary or our pass rush.

If Billings is sitting there at our pick, sold! He could make an immediate impact in year one.

I also saw one mock draft that had us taking Fuller in the 2nd. Not sure if he would still be there but if we didn't go CB in round 1, he would be a pretty good pick in the 2nd round.

I just cannot see them going LB round one four straight drafts.

At some point, the premium picks need to be used elsewhere.

saying that you still have to go BPA

so if it's a pass rushing LBer on a team that still lacks one pass rushing 10+ sack guy per year.....

I don't know how you don't draft that if all things are unequal.

If Spence is there...you take him. Jarvis stinks and Harrison is old.

SB 50 again proved their worth. Interesting TE prospect......I'm curious if anyone's sold on Jesse James as a starter? Does anyone see a potential game changing S or Corner that could play right away in the first? Sorry, not very up on college ball.

Corner looks weak in this years draft especially late round 1. I think the value in 2 will be there.

At SS I look at Cravens as having solid potential.

Jesse James might be a ok Spaeth replacement, but not sure he will ever be what Heath was. Not even sure there is a Heath replacement in this draft....

SB 50 proved the value of a solid combination of a cover corner VS a pass rusher. I think the Steelers are one shy of each. I think the offseason it is a fail if CB isn't upgraded....

Right now my first round choice is Noah Spence. I think he's going to be a beast in the NFL. He's built perfectly for the 3-4 OLB spot.
I like Billings too. I don't see a good CB making it to us but if they should fall then that would be the next obvious pick.

If Robert Nkemdiche is there at 1.25 over the rest of your presented list - we'd be FOOLISH not to take him. JMO.

It's far too early to make any grand declarations. Last year at this time no one had heard of the CB from Connecticut (Jones) that the Cowboys took in round one.

The latest Walter Football mock has us taking Vernon Butler, DT, Louisiana Tech
http://www.nfldraftgeek.com/vernonbutler-draftspotlight.html

Someone else is thinking like me :applouse:

While I admire what Big Mac has done - I think a DT/NT who can apply pressure and open holes for the DE's and LB's is a critical piece of what's missing. With the option of Butler, or Robert Nkemdiche (if he is there) we get that INSTANTLY. The next area of concern is SS - question is do we wait until the 2nd to get one or will we find one by round 4???
