Some work changes have occurred that will allow me to take the HC duties of the most competitive junior varsity program in our city. The facility is unbelievable. Donated to the senior and junior program by a very wealthy but anonymous benefactor. There isn't a terribly big pressure to win, buy there is to produce quality well trained players for the senior program. It will be a summer of preparing and rounding out the coaching staff, but it's kinda my dream coaching gig. I could do senior varsity as a position coach but because I didn't play post high school to any degree this is my ceiling as an HC for now.

Good luck!

It's not my job to hold your hand. It's my job to take motivated people and show them how to become better.

Great line. Also like if I have to motivate you your cut. So there is your motivation. I will be honest some coach coolshades comes out when I address players. He is very good at that. 100 percent sure my wife ordered coach Cowher's book for Father's Day. I will be borrowing. You have to know your stuff but as an HC you have to have some personality and good talk. A guy I coach with has the best line. If you are gonna stand around with your dick in your hand you are gonna get it knocked off. And you will be lucky to be holding it after.

It's kind of the Patriots program of our city minus the cheating. You are either are a part of it or grumbled at behind your back. I'm sure there is at least one of those in every community. But since there isn't big pressure to win on the Junior end I hope to kinda lower that temperature.

CongratulAtions Sask, you will do well. Remember to enjoy yourself appropriately, it is a game.

As for the cheatriot view, I highly doubt they would be looked up to or as successful without all the cheating.

I hope you will still find time to give us insight through your post(s) along the way.

Congrats, Sask! If I remember correctly, you've been doing the coaching thing for a long damn time so well deserved and good luck.

Don’t kid yourself, there is ALWAYS a certain amount of winning that is expected in every program. This in my opinion is the WORST thing for development teams. I coached children’s baseball for many years, and always had that discussion with parents every year. I coached T-ball and junior Little League, as I never wanted to take on senior Little League. I was always more interested in teaching fundamentals and sportsmanship.
In T-ball I had only one hard and fast rule, NO ONE throws to 1st base. EVERY play was at 2nd base. This used to piss off countless parents, until they saw the results at the end of the year.

good luck, I hope things work out great for you.

you're a better man than I am. I quit coaching football because of the parents. These freaking people think little Johnny is going to go to college on a scholarship and all you are is a road block.

Just one example. I had a kid who was a prototype TE for High School. Bigger body kid that could run a decent route and had very good hands. Well, Daddy says he's a RB, no...a star running back. I told his old man he's full of ****. Since he's a lawyer and throws money around to the booster club I get told to put his kid in at RB. So I did, and he got absolutely crushed. After 10 carries of bouncing it to the edge because he was afraid of contact he gets his femur broken by a safety who knew he was headed for the edge. Off he went in the ambulance. what does the Dad do? He starts an organization centered around "fair play" and had the school board require coaches attend the training yearly. I was done at that point and said **** you all.

At least with Wrestling we wrestle off for a specific weight. Winner wrestles varsity and the loser wrestles JV. You think you're better than the guy ahead of you? challenge him.

Best of luck buddy, you're going to need it.

I'm glad somebody is awake on this board, not sure of my delirious-nism but must have been now that I re-read what I actually wrote.

Congrats Sask. You of all people should know being a head coach means to surround yourself with assistants who can make the players better. Of course, as mentioned it takes a someone with divine intestinal fortitude to coach High School football. Certain types of parents are worse than cheating programs.

Thanks for all the well wishes and solid advice. To be clear my own goals are player development for the senior squad and creating our own "memories". Part of having good memories is winning. The AD at the school is also the Senior HC. He was clear that he wants our program to mirror theirs. He wants us to practice the same. Same verbiage etc. Winning won't be the focus. I'm confident we will win more than enough. I'm also fortunate because the league mandates that backups play in the second quarter and score is not included in the final. This allows you to put the kids in who aren't ready to start or be clear depth players. It also let's small programs who maybe only have 20 players feel success against backups.
The poster who mentioned the choosing of assistant coaches and coordinators is crucial is dead on. I've got about 2/3 of what I need. One of them coached me.

Sounds like a great opportunity. Keep us up to date - kind of like DD used to do with his dumb boss moments.

so you're saying we should just call you coach from now on?

Sask can change his name to anything except Coach :0 But if he needs a tip of two, he sure can PM me. Free tip, the best assistants for the HS level come from the alumni.

Would you like me to fire up my old Mike Tomlin Press Conference Generator so you have some bonafide Tomlin answers for any press situations you might find yourself in?

Awesome Sask, congrats, I got the job of Varsity High school Girls soccer coach up here in February, we just finished our spring travel season undefeated out scored our opponents 35-4. The problem in single A is if you make the state playoffs you're going to run into a private school than can bring athletes in from all over the area.

Varsity Girls, why not on Sask's team? I mean the NFL is force feeding them and plans to hire them like crazy as assistant coaches. Just wait for it. We'll have one soon. I'm surprised Rooney hasn't acted yet. Well he has if trainer's count. Whomever our first female coach is better know her stuff.
