One of the OGs. RIP Junior.
Back in the heyday of NASCAR we went to Charlotte for a race and toured all the shops.
JJ's was basically a bunch of small garages hooked together on his property. He and Petty's were old school small shops compared to the big corporate teams that were taking over at the time. I remember going to some of the big shops and you had to wait in line, sign in, go on a guided tour that was like going to disneyland.
We drove right up the Johnsons driveway and they had cars out in front of the garage working on them. Got out and talked to some of the guys and I think Junior even showed up and shot the **** for awhile.
And they were beating the big $$$ teams back then too. RIP
