Interesting to see thoughts and highlights of Archer since he ran the 2nd fastest time at the combine at 4.26 in the 40.

Fast as a flea and half as tall. But, he's our flea now, so I hope he has a HOF career.

Again, the guy has Return Specialist written all over him.

Let's not pretend our return game has been anything close to par since ARE's production fell off.

This is a good pick, barring injury. Now, I can't defend the team not using him properly, but he has Devin Hester-like potential.

Hey man, he's a Steeler now, so I'm all in. Hoping that your predictions about him come true.

I want to hate this pick, but our kickoff return game has been beyond pathetic. After seeing slugs like Dwyer and Jones returning kicks, I can't get mad about this pick. Would be nice to see us starting drives outside the 30-35 yard line for a change. His size is the big drawback, but of course if he was 5'11" and 200lbs, he wouldn't have still been on the board.

Ehhhh... If they make him a PR KR specialist, this pick isnt too bad.

Take brown out of the role and it actually may make our special teams an asset rather than a liability.

There are no such things as KR specialists any more. 75% of kickoffs get downed.

It's just a bullshit frivolous pick like Willie Reid was in 2006. Special teams just aren't that important. It's one of the greatest ******* falsities the media/fans have about the game that has no proof in statistical measure.

****, ****, **** I hate this pick.

Someone posted on Twitter that he had run a sub 4.2 forty at a personal workout. If so, that's some serious speed. If he can return kicks and offer some value to the offense, well worth the pick. They need a 3rd rb. They just picked one a bit earlier than I figured. Interesting choice...

I'm hesitant.

On one hand, I liked what Haley was doing with Rainey. Problem with him was that he could not stay on his feet after a cut to save his life (which made him worthless in space) or catch. If Dri can do either of these things he'll be interesting.

On the other, man is he a shrimp. Sproles works because while he's short, he's thick and can take some punishment when he has to. A stiff breeze knocked Rainey down and this guy looks shrimpier than him.

That's it! If they think they can make this guy a big part of their offense, they're crazy. He just isn't big enough to be out there for 30 snaps a game. However, if they use him as a specialist, kick and punt returner, and maybe 10 to 12 snaps a game, he might become a tremendous weapon. It would be hard to be worse returning kickoffs than the Steelers have been since Randle El left after 2005.

I don't think you have a good grasp of how field position works.

It's not just about housing kickoffs, it's about tilting the field on punt returns as well. 2 or three less first downs to reach the endzone on 4 or 5 possessions can translate into 10 points per game.

So we are investing our late third rounder in a player that will see 10 snaps per game? The team has too many holes to pick this kind of players. Get your **** together before you risk such value in a pretty fast dwarf

Archer was not a punt returner in school. It's not something just anyone can do; there's more to it than running in a straight line. In shorts. Archer and all of his speed wasn't given that job at Kent effing State. I suppose it will be easier in the NFL.. ?

I can't even imagine 10 snaps a game. Dude is 5'7 173. And he's 23 already. I don't forsee him ever topping 175-180. Where do you play him? The slot? LOL.

People are thinking Darren Sproles. Yeah ******* right.

So this clown is going to buck history and have 4 or 5 punt returns between 20 and 30 yards per game which is what your ridiculously naive post is directly claiming ?

Nobody knows what he will play. Chill out.. tell you what. If he is in the slot you better have a corner on him. Cause a safety or LB is going to get killed. Upgrade in the return game.

I do not think you have a good grasp on anything, because Dri Archer is not a punt returner. His CAREER, yes, CAREER total of 6 returns for 8 yards is not exactly a FIELD TILTER.

Last year, the Steelers averaged 22.5 yards per kickoff return. Dri Archer, for his career, averaged 28.2. So, the difference is not even 1 first down.....on average.

Tilting the field? That impact won't even get the bubble out the lines on a level.

His measurable's are very similar to Tavon Austin. Except Archer is faster.

Even the greatest PR in history, Devin Hester, would be a borderline third-round pick as a strict returner without playing on offense. Quite a bar for a 5'7 guy from Kent State.

Just like last year when the incredibly fast Reggie Dunn who was an incredible KO return specialist in college but was not a puint returner failed miserably in preseason trying to become a punt returner. Agility, lateral quickness and finesses is a lot more important on punt returns than sheer speed.

And Tavon is a pure WR with excellent hands that understands the route tree and how to get separation. But, other than that, yeah.....

Maybe we should just dig up the old Rainey thread and bounce it into word and change the names. What are Archer's issues? Durability and fumbles. What were Rainey's issues? Durability and fumbles.

But hey, they can run. I wonder if there are any 5'3" corners out there.......

That's a good day. Not every game, but a good one without a TD.

And it's MILES better than what we've got now.

If the guy can get off 2 or 3 games a season, either shifting field position or housing a ball or two it can add wins to the W column. And winning's what Pittsburgh is all about.

In case you forgot, we ARE the only team with 6 rings.
